BBC method of doing things usually is far better in this regard. Less fluff and filler, more content. You even have shows like Life on Mars which go out on top after 2 seasons because the writer and actors all agree that any more would be gratuitous.

Yeah I agree. I also agree that we are lucky to get Benedict Cumberbatch on public-funded TV, plus Martin Freeman...these guys are A-listers at this point. I have only seen maybe 5 episodes of Elementary and I do really like their character version of Sherlock (and even Watson) but comparing it to BBC's Sherlock is almost unfair. Sherlock is a juggernaut of talented acting and writing. Elementary, as Homsar said, suffers heavily from "Crime/Monster of the week" syndrome. To me, that makes getting thru the 24 episode season a fucking chore. But my wife, and most women it seems, loves the hell out of it.

Been a while since I've watched sherlock but Elementary seems to mention his issues more with drug past ect. Like I said I really like johnny lee miller and think both are great. But even the letter from moriarty always come out great on elementary

Pretty sure that I didn't say that.

I said that if you hate gay moriarty, that just proves how straight you are.

Moriartuy was "acting" gay to fool sherlock. They never confirmed what he is. I just know his voice makes me want to drown newborn kittens

you should probably go watch the episode again (s1e3) where he asks sherlock if he liked his gay charade.

I don't know anyone who sounds like Moriarty period. Gay, straight, transgender... doesn't matter. That dude has a retarded voice.

Moriarty definitely had a bad case of British overacting going on. It's been largely eradicated from the top BBC shows as of late, but still flares up occasionally.

What the he'll is the definition of an A list actor? Imo Freeman isn't one and Cumberbatch is pushing it

freeman and cumberbatch are probably A-listers in the UK. but here? eh they're good actors, better than most of this new crop of american dorks who were picked on their looks over their acting abilities. A-listers though? thats a tough call.

Yeah I wouldn't call them A-Listers (I always figure that that term applies to someone who's not only famous/in demand/has won awards and shit, but who's reputation is such that their presence in a movie is a huge draw in and of itself, that more people would see the movie if it has them than if it had an equally talented but more obscure actor), but they're certainly talented and in demand, and we are incredibly lucky to have them dedicated to this kind of show.

cumberbatch and freeman's biggest films are probably Star Trek 2 and The Hobbit trilogy. cumber batch as Khan and freeman as bilbo. one was a co star and the other is arguably the star. those movies are good launching points for stardom but at this point both are just starting out. they have a few years before they can "arrive". for somebody like Tom Hanks, he starred in a bunch of good and bad movies that always just missed their mark and never reached iconic status. it probably wasnt until philadelphia did he become an accepted A-list actor even though he was incredible in Nothing in Common, Big and a few small comedies like The Burbs, Bachelor Party, Joe Versus the Volcano and Volunteers

Hard to say... Not sure I'd be 100% on board calling them a-listers... But it seems disingenuous to call them b-listers.

On topic of Moriarty... I was originally thrown off by him but he grew on me. It was just such a drastic departure from what we are used to with that character that it all seemed off. But at the end of the day I think his style is a lot more true to the idea of the character. He's a sociopath. Even is he's high functioning he's going to be off. Just like sherlock, just in the opposite direction. Sherlock is cold and mechanical whereas Moriarty ENJOYS the depravity of his sociopathy.
