The lock screen just says "slide to unlock" so I assume there is no password or anything. I might do it anyway, maybe I will find some porn or something

I phones ask for the screen lock code after you swipe to unlock - so if it has one, if the screen totally does not work - you wont be able to tell until you replace the screen, or at least the digitizer.... older iphones you usually can buy the glass and digitizer for 10-20$ on ebay if there is nothing wrong with the actual LCD

My friend keeps rubbing this in my face. Huawei junk, sure, but it takes a photo in 1.2sec from standby, double clicking on volume down. Pretty handy when you have kids and they do something hilarious. My pis old SG4 recently got Lollipop, and all I get is a shortcut for the camera app on the swipe login screen. Still takes up to 5-10 secs to have the app open and take a picture.

Anyone know if this is possible on iPhone/other android?

My nexus 6, with the swipe left to open the camera is pretty fast. I'd say under 5 seconds easily from swipe to taking a picture

Why don't you check out those phones and get back to us with your findings?

On a serious note, I have an aging Iphone 4S and on the slide to unlock screen there is a shortcut for the camera in the bottom right hand corner. I was able to open the app from standby and take a picture in 3-4 seconds. I haven't heard of a feature like the Huawei has on an Iphone. Maybe the newer Iphones are faster?

Subsidized upgrades may soon become a thing of the past on ATT and Verizon
No More Subsidies on iPhones at Verizon or AT Stop the Cap!
Well to tell you the truth, Verizon has been pushing that new edge plan to everyone I know, which is pretty much the same thing. Paying full price for a phone on a payment plan with a cheaper plan. But the thing is, its OK, because these phones have pretty much topped out already, tech wise. I mean what is the real difference between a Samsung S5 and S6 performance wise? Yeah, better screen, better processor, more pixels on the camera and all that, but do you actually need to upgrade every 2 yrs like you did in the past? Shit, my wife and I still have our Samsung S3 and it runs everything I throw at it perfectly. (Due for upgrade this summer) So unless you like drop your phone or severely mistreat it in some way because of your job or whatever, I see no point in getting upgrades every 2 yrs anymore.

The change from subsidies is a good one ultimately. Its going to force people to pay for their upgrades with discounts if they keep their phones so after a few upgrade cycles with topped out devices you'll be looking at phones like you look at the new TV's and take the savings on your plan. As opposed to getting a subsidy that you're a retard if you don't use because you're paying for it anyway. This will force the market to not grow nearly as fast in saturated markets causing manufacturers to compete on innovation and/or price.

Margins on phones are very high, there is plenty of room to trim the fat down.

OPO you do a circle gesture on the screen when it's off and it launches in to camera, can take a picture from turned off screen to shot in 2-3 seconds. You can add it to the lock screen somehow too but I haven't bothered.

My last phone I kept for 4 years, original nexus. I just got the nexus 6 and will probably keep that at least 4 years. I just used the a subsidized upgrade through bestbuy.com to keep my unlimited data plan. So all this means is I'll probably have to pay full price for a phone to keep the unlimited data plan in the future.

My MotoX 2014 you just twist the phone twice with it locked, camera instantly is open and you press a button to take a pic. Takes like 2 seconds..

Since the zenfone was a no go, I'm going with a nexus 6 but not until I can switch to Fi. They say you should hear within 30 days but I'm wondering if that will be true since I'm in a small town.(according to the coverage map I should be good tho)

I don't know how you guys keep phones for more than 2 years. I can't seem to get over a year before the connectors (usb or headphones or both) start going bad. I don't really think I'm subjecting my phones to anything extreme but I have had terrible luck with them for the last 3 or 4 years.

Google just put the Nexus 6 on sale for $499/$549. This finally broke me, Google Fi incoming. Hopefully this isn't terrible!

I signed up end of April and got my invite the end of May. Not sure if location matters a ton, but I am in Minneapolis where their coverage map seems really strong.

I would be happy to hold onto an older phone but my M7 is really pushing my patience. Shitty battery life, tons of unresponsiveness, screen is smaller than I really want. I don't really like my wife's S4 either so not too sold on Samsung phones. Maybe a note if I decide to go crazy. Edge only seems to have right-handed models? At least that I've seen in stores.

I don't use my phone a ton for gaming (Hearthstone some but it drains my battery even plugged in sooooo), mainly Reddit/Google/Looking shit up. And it chugs a lot switching apps or just bringing the keyboard up. Guess maybe I need to go to a real non-Bestbuy store and play with some tech.

Is there a general consensus on the S6 vs. OPO vs. Nexus vs. whatever, even though the Nexus is just hitting?

Don't forget about the Samsung Note phones. I personally like them better than any other offering out there, including Samsungs normal S-line of phones. If you're considering the Nexus 6 and One Plus One, then you're obviously not averse to "large" phones. Consider the Note 4, it's incredible.
