Just in case anyone is on the fence on the S8, Samsung.com is currently offering $100 off the unlocked S8/S8+ and you get $200 trade-in value for any non-S7 Android or iOS phone as long as the phone isn't fucked up. $350 trade in value for an S7 phone.

$525 before tax for a S8+ is a pretty good deal. Not like I was going to get anything at all for my Nexus 5, let alone $200.

Ughhhhh... I don't need to upgrade but that's mighty tempting...

decided to pull the trigger on the S8+ with how solid that deal was. will also allow me to switch to Sprint (the retards at the Sprint store couldn't figure out how to port over my Verizon S7 edge) and go from $90/mo to $50/mo for unlimited. hopefully I'll be able to sell it for $400-500 this Fall if Apple comes out with something real nice.

To my knowledge Sprint and Verizon even though they use the same "SIM" (I know it's not but I forget the name of it - the equivalent of SIM on ATT/TMo) process are completely incompatible - I know I looked into it for past phones before when I considered switching to VZW - unless something has changed for the better in the past 2 years.

any idea if I'll be getting the US or international version from samsung?

SM-G955U is the US version, SM-G955F is the international. I didn't see a way to order the international version. Maybe if you VPNed in from some other country. But I believe the international version is lacking support for some US frequency bands.

I was impressed until I found out from China that the Moto G5 "S" Plus will be using Qualcomm new SD630 Chip that supports the dual (Spectra) camera tech and have up to 8GB ram, 600 Mbps download and 150 upload speeds with Fast Charge 4 tech (50% in 15 min.) and the new USB connector.

I didn't know the S8 had a pressure sensitive area on the screen for it's home button.

Hard press for home.

That's awesome.

That pic of your dog looks a ton better than the Iron Maiden pic - I'm guessing the camera had a harder time with the lighting in there (I think many cameras do) - I do agree that shot is beautiful, whereas the other one was passable but nothing exceptional (if slightly poor for modern tech)

And on dual cameras - unless there's a demonstratable benefit I'd be leery of assuming it'll mean much - my M8 a few years back was one of the first on that trend and TBH it felt like a downgrade from my Galaxy Nexus camerawise for the dual camera on the rear. (selfie camera was amazing for a selfie-cam though)

The new dual photo tech uses a B&W ISP and a Color ISP and meshes both together for a clearer and crisper low light photography.

Poor? Man, I dunno what camera phones you've seen of concert photos, but I haven't seen shit even close to that from a phone. Most of the concert shots are done with professional cameras and of course those look better.

Maybe I'm out of touch, but most camera phone photos of concerts are fucking garbage. They certainly were with my Nexus.

I think my 6P died yesterday. Worked fine all day, battery died at about 8PM which is not unusual, but I've had it on 4 different chargers now and it just won't charge. Tried cleaning out the plug but it still won't charge.

Turns out my phone was not dead after all, just frozen up hard or something. Plugged it in to the charger and held the power button down for 30 seconds and the thing booted up. I don't know if that's something that's going to keep happening but I once again have hope that I can keep this phone going until we at least hear what the Pixel 2 is going to be like.

I realize that, thus the "I think many cameras do" comment I put in there - it's better to take a picture in standard lighting (like the dog shot) to give a real idea of the picture quality. Taking a picture with the best camera in the world in a bad situation (say a point blank picture of my granite counter tops) might make a camera that does amazing landscape work look like shit because it's being used in a situation where exposure/etc get all wonky.

TL;DR - If you're going to start a discussion on how good the camera is - use best case, not worst case scenario pics. [And honestly, IMO concerts seem about the worst case]

Amon Amarth Nexus 5x.

You can't really compare a picture of a dog 20 feet away in broad daylight with a concert pic in no light 15 rows up and say the camera is shitty.

Concerts are tough. Probably take a couple dozen bad pictures to maybe get a good one.

Went into Costco today to add a couple lines to our Tmobile account. Costco gives you free sim cards and then gives you $25 back in costco cash cards for each line added whereas directly at a Tmobile store they charge you $25 per sim card these days. Fairly retarded.

Noticed they're still doing the free TV thing with BOGO on the S8 and S8+.

I call bullshit on this. Mine already has burn-in. I just inverted my colors and will probably have to keep it that way for a week. Awesome...

Just double checked it and no burn in. I assume your burn in is with the nav bar? I use an app that changes the nav bar color on a per app basis, so that may have prevented burn in there. Usage differences and screen lottery (though I haven't heard of any big issues with Pixel screens) can also have an impact.
