i can COMPLETELY understand someone struggling to get past the pilot. it wasn't good. that being said, spartacus season one is my favorite season of all time. it's the only show i've seen where every episode just gets better and better. most shows hit a groove where they plateau at "pretty good" but spartacus season 1 never plateaus.

IMO, the 4th episode, "The Thing in the Pit" is where the show really took off from me and never looked back, with the exception of screetchy s2-s3 Naevia.

First time I watched the show I didnt know the shit actually happened. Then I looked it up and wiki the shit, learned some history at the same time.

I never had a problem with the first episode. I didn't mind the 300 style combat and was already familiar with (and a fan of) Andy from watching a movie called Gabriel, which I enjoyed.
