I was going to go to a free screening tonight but probably going to pass, weather sucks and the ratings on Rotten Tomato and MetaCritic keep sinking - at around 65% now. You usually have to go an hour early for screenings, maybe if some of you guys like it I'll just pay and see it next week. I'm a bit put off at how Daniel Craig is acting on the press tours as well, like being James Bond is a huge burden that he is glad to stop doing. Fuck you, asshole!

I saw Mission Impossible 5 yesterday and it felt like a cheap rip off of what Spectre is going to be, first disappointing Tom Cruise movie in a while

I was thinking about it last night and I really wish Hollywood would stop tip toeing around bad guys. Every goddamn action movie now has Russians or some rando Baltic state as the bad guys. In MI5 its like... Halliburton. Bring back the crazy Islamic nut jobs, Bond and Mission Impossible deserve a Muslim Goldfinger or Iranian Assassin.

Well, Daniel Craig's contract with the Bond franchise is over with this film. It's very likely that he's playing hard ball just to get them to offer him an even larger contract for future movies.
It's similar to what radio personalities, like Howard Stern, do to give themselves more leverage during negotiations. Showing that they have plenty of other opportunities, so if you want them to remain, you're going to have to pay accordingly.

i absolutely love Daniel Craig's Bond, but with his shitbird attitude during interviews with the media im not entirely sure they would want him back. Like Spronk was saying, the guy is being a huge asshole about anything Bond related even though its probably the best thing he's done.

I know some people that went to an early showing here in Dallas last night and they said it was mediocre. Not as good as Skyfall was the general consensus.

Well it seems the movie is not very good, so maybe that's why Craig wants out.

I didn't even think Skyfall was great or amazing personally, it was ok I didn't hate it or anything. CR was a nice refresh but they haven't quite been able to keep the pace going since the novelty of the initial reboot wore off. I want to see this but I'm kind of giving it a day to see how reviews here and online in general play out first.

Just repeating what they said. Personally, the only one I found excellent was Casino Royale. It was the only one to capture that genuine Bond feel. Casinos, Monaco, evil looking villain, tuxedos, and a super hot bond chick.

Daniel Craig has been a great Bond, but the only good Bond movie he's had is Casino Royale - which is my favorite Bond movie by far. QoS is meh and Skyfall is about the same.

Casino royale was good
QoS is like one of the worst bond movies ever
The last act of Skyfall was pure nonsense rubbish (before the villain escapes).

the Bond legacy has never been about making profound statements or winning Oscars. it's 60+ year legacy, especially in film, has been about a sort of juvenile wet dream (if you will). cars, explosions, exotic foreign travel, guns, espionage, incredible odds, and beautiful women. Bond, to me, is the original Don Draper, with a flair for adventure and a taste for fantastical danger. turn off your adult brain and view them from that of a boy's.

All that's true, its just that the early reviews were indicating it might not have even been very good at doing those things either. I did read that the opening sequence is top notch, which is really my favorite part of the franchise, so there's that maybe.

Here's my reward for going to the first viewing in Imax. Just so you know, this isn't 3D.

Here's my non-spoiler review of the film. I don't believe I mention anything about the plot, but I'm going to add a small sequence in spoilers. It isn't plot, just action.

I just got home from seeing this. My first opinion: Excellent. This was a perfect movie. Great balance of drama, suspense, action, romance. Some comedy, but not a lot. Like 2-3 funny things happened throughout the film.

The music was great the entire way through. This includes the less than amazing "bond song". I really didn't like listening to it with the youtube video, but it was great in the film. Especially with their octopus CGI for whatever reason. The core of the film's sound track was a mix of the standard Bond orchestra with horns, and DJ synthesizer music. Not techno, just that type of music.

The opening action sequence was top notch. In my opinion, of ALL the bond films, Daniel Craig has had the best 2 intros. This is a toss between Casino Royal and Spectre. I don't know which was better, but this opener had plenty of adrenaline.

The story never stagnated. It followed a central plot from start to finish, and didn't leave much else to be desired. Sure, I have questions about some side elements, but they aren't really important. The story was well done. The acting was great as well.

A+, would watch again.

As a side note, after the closing credits, it said "James Bond will Return", much the way it said after Skyfall. Oh, and there wasn't an after credits scene, but don't feel like you're missing something by not having one. It wasn't needed.

My only real complaint about the movie.
They had a car chase sequence with Jame's Aston Marton and another person's Ferrari. It looked great, but it seemed to be in slow motion. Granted, most of the driving was on cobblestone streets and uneven pavement, but it really seemed "slow". The cars appeared to glide over the bad surfaces without much trouble, so I'm sure the entire sequence was CGI, but watching both vehicles take really slow and sharp turns made me very aware that it wasn't a fast paced sequence. Aside from that, I enjoyed everything else about the film.

Thanks for the write up. I was starting to get a little worried with all the doom and gloom going around in the reviews.
