The set pieces and scenery were great. I can't imagine what it took to put that whole Day of the Dead scene together. The blonde girl was ok. Monica is starting to show her age, but she still looks awesome. The scene where the blonde leaves the group was stupid. The train fight was cool.

I give it a 7/10.

7 seems generous to me. i'd give it a 6 or 6.5. call it 6.25.

the stupid romantic sideplot really took away from the movie. it worked in Casino Royale, but not at all in this. one of the reasons Skyfall was great is the complete lack of a romantic sideplot -- just bond fucking bitches and kicking ass.

I'd still give it a solid 7. I enjoyed it and I like how M, Q, and MP have a little more of an active role than in previous Bond films. I agree with Keg that the romantic sideplot felt forced and not at all as genuine as it was between 007 and Vesper in Casino Royale. Spoiler below why I believe they went this route.

At the end of the movie as they drive off in the Aston Martin you get the feel that he's actually going to settle down with someone and leave the MI6 life behind. Guarantee that the next 007 movie opens with them have just been married and then pretty much going the way in the video as a throwback to HMSS. Then you set the next few Bond movies up as his personal vendetta against Blofeld is strengthened. Expect to see Mr. Hinx pull off the assassination since it's only implied that he died when being yanked off the train (that's a bitch way for a guy like him to go out IMO if he did die as a result).

On a side note, Monica Belluci still is hot despite aging since her Matrix days. WTH she's only in for about 5 minutes and then get's put under CIA protection? I kept expecting her to pop back up or at least come to find that Hinx finished her off.

As a generic modern "spy" movie it's about a 7 - nothing exceptionally bad or good about it.

As a James Bond movie, this is Star Trek: Into Darkness all over again, a sad rehash that does nothing better (or even as well as) the original movies, with a backstory that's downright ludicrous. Craig already says he want out, and frankly, any producers involved with this shouldn't be allowed to come back either.

This movie was a terrible Bond movie.

James sees Mr Hinx killing a guy with just his thumbs, gets chased down with the boring car chase cept for grandpa driver, gets shot at by Hinx while in the plane, so when Hinx is thrown halfway through the car windshield from the airplane accident, James instantly shoots the driver pointing the gun at him but doesn't check on Hinx? Really?

The train fight was great, but, where the hell did everyone go? people were dining there but the kitchen was empty, half the train gets destroyed from the fight but everything goes on like nothing happen. Nice inserted voiceover for Hinx when he said "Shit" before getting pulled from the train.
Oh James what do we do now?....... the entire theater reacted to that line, people shaking their heads, well geee we all wonder. BOWCHICAWOWWOW!

James to Blofeld: I'm here to kill you.
Madeleine knows James for just a few days, James I already love you!
Blofeld gets blown up by the watch bomb and the first thing James does? takes the girl and runs without checking if he's actually dead.

James gets kidnapped and hooded, but he kills the two guards, conveniently his name is written on the wall with arrow directions, did Blofeld think his guys were going to get killed? why not use more guys to restrain him when you know he's a trained killer spy, not even handcuffs and hands behind his back? ok I guess I can chalk that up to henchmen stupidity.

James you have 3 mins to save the girl or save yourself, *insert joker laugh*, I will get out of here safely, but what will you do!
Hey Blofeld just blow the building up as soon as you get out next time.

James gets out with the boat and chases down the copter, then unloads two handguns on the copter engines to blow them out at a distance that seemed a little too far out for handguns. Meanwhile in the copter, Blofeld hears something, shit is that bullets? better put on the seatbelt, oh pilot keep going straight and at the same level so he can get the lucky shot eventually.

James: By the way guys check out my skinny pants I can totally run and do stunts in them.

Monica was awesome, blond was not.

Casino Royale is the best of the bunch.

Why didn't I stream this instead.

I know I'm in the VAST minority, but I hate Craig. These movies used to be *fun*. Can we agree now it's time for a new Bond?

Fuck. For my money bring back ANY of the previous actors.

I read a fan theory that suggests that everything post 'Brain Drill' is actually all in Bond's head (ie, Brazil), which explains why everything becomes super absurd and essentially wish fulfillment.

It kind of makes sense, but I doubt they would have had the balls to do that

If by "fun" you mean "campy" then fuck off. That's not the problem. You're free to hate Craig as your opinion, but I liked the attempts at a new tone for the series. It was necessary. But they nailed CR and dropped the ball continuously after that. Each time has been worse. I might still go see this since I'm a fan of the franchise but I'm in no hurry for sure after the very mixed reactions at best.

Agree. Camp not only got really old after a while but they smashed the ridiculous in our face with an 80 year old Roger Moore by the end of it(just a slight exaggeration). I don't think Skyfall or this(haven't watched) could be any worse than Quantum though. Screen writers have progressively gotten worse but this is a really hard series to nail down. You want a continuation of the reboot while keeping most of the standard Bond fare. When you have massive outrage because the guy might like a beer every once in a while...you have a fan base that is really hard to please. As much as we would like CR to be repeated, maybe it really is that hard to replicate.

Not getting my hopes up too much but wouldn't mind seeing something solid like Skyfall was. I don't think it will disappoint.

instead of wasting money at a theater to see this, watch Man from UNCLE at home on bluray rips/streaming (out next week on redbox/amazon/etc). Its what a james bond movie should be, really enjoyed it and the vibe was very much an early sean connery bond.

I am not too sure what to think about it. Further analysis would be needed to be sure, but I suspect that it is a pretty elegant use of the James Bond mythos and a pretty clever thematic/symbolic work, mainly around the idea of the old vs the new (old headquarters, new headquarters, old style james bond girl, new style james bond girl, old car, new car, old identity for the villain, new identity for the villain, Bond ending up having to chose between his old life and a new life, etc). Breaking the facial memory plays along this main theme, but it felt strangely unresolved. These considerations aside, it was competently done and reasonably entertaining.

Saw this movie last night and it left me very perplexed.

As far as Daniel Craig Bond movies go, it was probably my second to least favorite, better than Quantum of Solace only.

But as far as James Bond movies go, well it's a fucking classic Bond movie.

And that's what I don't get.

Casino Royale was, by all means, a soft reboot of the franchise. James Bond becomes 007 at the beginning of it, and we are introduced to this new version of 007, a much colder killer than the elegant and smooth Brosnan or some of his previous counterparts. The movies embraced the Bond heritage of luxury cars and hot women, but also broke some of the clich?s and tropes typical of Bond movies.

Spectre, however, embraces all these clich?s and is a Bond movie of the 60's, except it was made for 2015. It had everything that the oldest Bond movies had and have had for decades, everything that has been parodied in Austin Powers and so many other spy movies, every trope in the book.

Bond bangs women he just met five minutes ago, despite the context being terrible for it : check
Luxury cars for EVERYONE : check
Muscle-bound mute-type mini-boss dude : check
Impractical locations for strange constructions : check
Villain's outlandish lair : check
Villain's overly slow torture device holding Bond captive : check
Villain revealing his entire plan slowly : check

Now, I know the last previous movies had some of these clich?s in them too, but the point is that it kept some and modernized some, and broke some down to surprise the viewer. But this one throws it all away and goes back to the old roots, for better or worse, your mileage may vary.

It's like all the modernity of the 3 previous Bond movies vanished and we are now back to square one, old classic tropes of Bond movies. Besides, I'm not sure the intent of Casino Royale was to officially BE a reboot, mostly a soft reboot since yes 007 was new but we still had the old M and Q... but now it's officially a reboot since Blofeld is a new character in that universe, while Bond already fought and killed him decades prior.

I'm not sure what the studios intended for this movie, and since it's a huge franchise I'm sure a lot of people oversaw this being made and agreed with it, but I cannot really understand what was the intent.

Perplexed indeed.

The movie was so fucking bad. Not QoS bad but bad.
The action set pieces were bad, the writing was bad, the villain was not really that interesting, batista was an useless henchman, monica Bellucci a bondgirl.......huh? She just appears for 4 minutes in total and she's just there to "grieve" and to be fucked by bond.

Sigh! I was hoping this would be awesome. It wasn't!

I could care less to ever see another supercar car chase scene again. How fucking boring are these now? Oh an eject button? Who gives a fuck. Monica Belluci literally served the role of a walking vagina, she got fucked and never seen again. Lea Seydoux was fucking gorgeous as always. But why did they love each other so quickly? Stupid. God damn. And you have a ***GENIUS*** actor like Christoph Waltz and he barely did anything. And what the fuck was the setup for the animosity? Bond went skiing with him and his dad, and he was jealous so he killed his dad and faked his own death? Oh my god fucking stupid.

finally saw this, meh.

M was sitting on critical info that just came out after she died, James tracks the dude who has a spectre ring. overhears "the pale king", the dudes funeral leads him to follow bellucci which leads him to Spectre's meeting spot. Batista makes an arrival, James gets away. finds out the Pale king is mr. White, mr. White mentions his daughter and L'american. bond finds daughter, finds L'american which leads him to a secret store house.

--This is where it stops making sense --

James takes a train to Blofelds evil lair through satellite phone tracking he used from 1970's technology in mr whites batcave? why did Batista attack him on the train? he was going to Blofeld to be captured anyway, why would Batista even risk it? Why would Blofeld send his car to pick up James instead of an army, he was in a very compromised position. bond uses his Omega watch bomb to escape, blofeld gets his iconic scar (I really enjoyed blofeld even if all his ideas weren't the best). blah blah blah movie wraps up

I feel like the ending of the 2nd act had such giant holes that it suffered from the "avengers 2" problem in that it tried to fit in too much just for the sake of cramming stuff in a movie. I even got the vibe that Craig was phoning it in and from his interviews wasn't really into it at all.

6/10 opening was awesome, didn't even mind sam smith's vocals. probably on the same level as QoS for me.

When he looked at the girl, and then his gun and threw it to the side off the bridge while walking toward her, I decided then and there I was done with going to Bond films.
