Looks like a bunch of entitled people trying to be cool. All glitz and glow with no sense of grounding. I wish they would stop overworking the CGI.

That looked awful.
From being someone that's not a trek fan but growing up having to watch it. The show has focus on action or water and not dialogue ect

I would have liked to see Star Trek go in an entirely different direction. I would have ignored everything after Voyager and Deep Space Nine Timeline wise. Then I would have made humanity more grounded and realistic after the hippy dippy stuff almost got them eradicated yet again. Then I would infuse their grounded realism with bits of hope which is what Star Trek is about.

Star Trek 90210

(yeah I stole it from somewhere else)

I just don't think this has an audience. Your core is fragmented and burned out which leaves you...young people? Does any part of this appeal to kids today? A teen/young adult drama using a 60 year old beaten to powder sci-fi license as a setting? Are they hoping the entirety of Discovery's audience shows up and brings a friend?

All I can think of is they're trying to target the same audience that watched Star Trek: Prodigy and they sprinkle in enough memberberries for for 60s/80s/90s ST fans to maybe tune in for an episode or two

they don't care about, it is all about the message

Stephen Colbert's role in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is as the Digital Dean of Students. This digital character will be responsible for giving daily announcements to the students and alerting them to any immediate attention needs. Colbert's voice will be used to convey these announcements, providing a unique and humorous take on the role of a digital character in the Star Trek universe.

That don't watch TV in the first place.

That kind of got me thinking. In a lot of Star Trek shows, they always have small plot points about how movies used to be a popular form of entertainment and then sort of went away. This is even in pre-Holodeck Star Trek settings. Many years ago you would be hard pressed to say that one day TV shows/movies will no longer be desired and sort of stop being a thing, but I could easily see that type of media (as it exists today) becoming less and less relevant. Or at the very least, not as ubiquitous as it is now.

Why's the EMH being used 600 or however many years in the future? Is this the EMH backup from voyager that was activated after 600 years by alien archaeologist and then continued on to Earth?

Maybe but that requires someone on the writing team to have seen Voyager and remember an episode of it. Hell, the subtext of that episode is the underclass's story of why they are where they are is entirely bullshit. I can't see a millennial rushing to reference something like that.

In the "flash forward" episode of Voyager where the EMH was married, it implies he was given rights similar to other living citizens in the federation. It might just be the same EMH from Voyager who has been just chilling the past 600 years because he is functionally immortal.
