Why can't people just accept this film is fucking terrible?

Because there is to much of their beliefs tied up in subversion of star wars.

If they admit it was terrible then they have to look in the mirror.

It took Phantom Menace close to two years for people to have fully turned on it and that one didn't have any ideological baggage propping it up besides Star Wars nerds wanting it to be good.

If I had a friend who admitted that they honestly felt this was a good movie I would have serious concerns about the validity of our friendship. Fortunately no such scenario has presented itself.

Can he even say why? Or is it just because he liked that it exists?

I fast forwarded through most of the casino stuff. Even just a little bit of that was enough to clue me in that this entire sequence was going to be awful. I can't imagine having to sit through it in a theater. It would have been boring. Just boring. And that's a significant enough chunk of the movie that if that was the only problem it would still be a big problem.

At the very least they could have let you know that this was a good time to go pee, because you will miss absolutely nothing of value.

Imagine if you married someone who liked this movie, or maybe even had kids who thought it was the best thing since Fortnite.

I rather shockingly know more than a couple - their not terrible people but it's completely changed my view of their general opinions now.

My cousin is a cool guy. He's pretty laid back, lives a good life, has no weird social or political hangups. Doesn't even have a twitter account. He paid to see TLJ 6 times. 6 fucking times. He loved it. Not because it had some message he agreed with. He just thought it was a good Star Wars movie.

Don't ask me how this is possible. He's not a stupid guy. But there you have it.

i saw Revenge of the Sith 3 times in the theater and i never wanted to see it once.
my friends wanted to see it so they offered to pay for my ticket. i said sure. then a few days later my dad calls me saying we were going to the movies. i asked what movie? he says Revenge of of the Sith. i didnt want to pass up movies with my dad so i said ok, not telling him i had already seen it. then the GF says she wants to go to the movies the next weekend. you know how that ends. after that i never watched it again.

Chuk, I realize that you suck at reading... but come on.
you were wondering how anyone could watch a movie 6 times, i posted an anectdote how i saw one i didnt like 3 times in the theater. i guess the point i was making that you had to shit on me over was that watching a film multiple times doesnt always mean you liked it 6 times more than anyone else. it could mean situations come into play where you end up seeing it that many times.

merry christmas.

Six times is a lot of times. Even when I was going to see movies all the time I only ever saw a couple of movies more than once (in the theater) and never more than twice.

He watched it because he thought it was good. I literally said that in my post. Then you posted about watching a bad movie 3 times because you were basically forced to. Good comparison.

retcon Ackbar dying and somehow bribe Denis Lawson into reprising his role as Wedge Antilles
He was in a UK hospital soap opera not too long ago, he's still acting and in shape so I don't think that's too ridiculous.

The thing Phantom Menace had going for it, or I guess its better put "had so that even if it wasn't great it sorta made sense"...is that it was Episode 1, so all the boring backstory shit with not much happening you'd kind of expect. That allowed people to gloss over the real bad stuff in it (kid Anakin was terrible, fucking Jar Jar, boring Trade Fed bullshit) and focus on the few cool things (Liam Nieson, Ewan McGregor as Obi-wan, Darth Maul, the fight scene at the end between Maul and Jedi). Last Jedi has none of that, was supposed to be this trilogy's Empire.
