Saw it a few days back. Mostly enjoyed it. It was way too dense, but I think we can blame Rian Johnson for that. The visuals were wicked. Some clunky plots points. I thought Billy Dee Williams did a great job. Sure, there was some overt fan service, but I'll take that over tone altering 'humor' and casino planets. At no point did I get the "oh no... maybe if I ignore it, they won't do it again", like I did with Last Jedi's phone call, thrown lightsaber, flying Leia, etc, etc.
I liked all the middle fingers given to Rian Johnson. I liked that Rose had nothing to do and just stayed back at the base to sweep and put away dishes. And I'll probably get skewered for this, but I didn't mind the handling of Palpatine for the most part. It felt very Expanded Universe, which I thought was kinda cool.
I loved the bit where Kylo dropped that alien's head on the war room table.

Anyway, 100x better than the Last Jedi, but too over stuffed to be as satisying as Force Awakens. Either way, I'll take it

My eyes rolled so hard when the ships were all equipped with planet destroying weapons.

This franchise is creatively bankrupt

This was indeed retarded. Especially since they already had a massive fleet of star destroyers that could fuck up any other army. They didn't need to throw this in

(And again, rumor is they ran it like women...They gave no hard outlines on what they wanted, they made the guys guess and then simply rejected things until the guys began guessing right lol...)

Ah yes, the "what do you want to order for dinner?" method

And he’s Harrison Ford here:

lol, holy shit where do they find these guys? They're flawless.

There was a round table discussion with the Lucas guy and he said something along the lines of "the Star Wars movies are actually diuretics. A lot of people don't realize that. They were designed that way". It was ridiculous and sounded exactly like something George Lucas would say

List of Iger rejections for Rise-- items he personally veto'd after he saw the first movie JJ turned in.

These are things Iger personally vetoed that cost Disney an additional 300m in production that was spent to re-shoot 75% of Rise of Skywalker.

Iger said "the buck stops with me" re: Star Wars. The irony is, he's spending more fucking money than anybody at LucasFilm.

- Clone Wars TV show being used as a basis for the plot
- Dagger of Mortis as a plot device
- Son of Mortis as main villain for Rise of Skywalker
- Palpatine being in the movie, but not the main villain.
- Rey's character acing Palpatine in a flawless victory.
- Rey's foot literally stomping down angrily onto the Emperor's body/robe in the finale

I know people really liked the Clone Wars tv show but that's a lot of story that people have no familiarity with.

I watched the first 12 seconds or so, realized it wasn't interesting, funny, or otherwise worth watching, and shut it off. Then re-read your post where you tried to compel me to watch more by quoting some idiotic statement, presumably from the video, where I can only assume they thought diuretic wasn't spelled that way and actually caused massive, uncontrollable shits and realized it was all a waste of time.

I don't know what George Lucas sounds like. But I know he doesn't sound like that.

I can't imagine the levels of misplaced self importance that would compel someone to think we need to hear their garbage opinion on a video they haven't even watched

I can't imagine the levels of misplaced self importance in someone who quoted some idiotic video, then got asked a question about the nonsensical quote, and in response told me I need to watch the video to "get it" and actually expected me to based on their retarded synopsis

Oh, I didn't expect you to watch it and didn't expect you to say you had watched it when I asked. The scorned nerd who hates on literally everything persona you've adopted for yourself is stereotypical enough that I was well aware where you were coming from

Man... that's fucking hysterical. Diuretics. I'm peeing just thinking about it. I definitely need to watch this video based on this testimonial. It makes perfect sense.

As a guy who has been frothing at the twat, making daily visits to a thread about something he hates, I'm sure you'll find the teenage loathing you crave in that video. Enjoy

I know there is a lot of JJ hate out there, but lets be honest. He was under orders to play it safe and soft reboot things in TFA and he did that, despite the Kathleen Kennedy Klan making his life miserable with their SJW shit the entire time. Then Rian Johnson happens. Next the Mouse tells him do E9 or else, pretty much like they did with Howard with Solo. Nothing he ever did was going to make up for TLJ, so all he could do was what he did: Try to cram enough fan spank service to mitigate the unavoidable shitstorm and hope the Mouse is satisfied enough to let him keep getting work on his big budget CGI fests.

This ultimately falls on Iger for letting KKK run amok and not having a premapped three movie plan. The prequels had a shitty plan, but at least they had one. JJ tried to give them one and TLJ shit all over that. The dude needed to obey the mouse if he was ever going to work on the kinds of movies he wanted to again. Even Ron Fucking Howard had to bow down to the Mouse. He was fucked from the outset, even if he somehow made the SW equivalent of Fury Road.

Having said that, my wife is making me go this weekend and I expect to be disappointed. I also plan on being drunk.

Oh man that poor JJ and his millions and millions of dollars.
they forced him to recycle the first star wars. he would have done something orignal otherwise. just like they forced him to put khan from the original star trek 2 in his new star trek 2 . then they forced him to remake ET in Super 8. its terrible what they did to him.

I cant dispute the trek observation, but there are interview videos flat out stating how the mouse had KK and her pussy hat crew ride his ass the entire production of TFA. It is the reason he bailed on doing movie 8 and made a term of his return keeping her the fuck out of his face. In the end, they still recut it and inserted shit like the lesbian kiss. Yeah he is going to make money, but how did that sit with Lucas himself?

Simple fact is the Mouse has a near total Monopoly of Hollywood film production and anyone who wants to keep working has to tow the line. Even Ron Howard bowed down to the fucking mouse.

As someone else who has not seen this, but now feels the need to review it.

I give it 3/10.

Uninspired bad finish to a bad trilogy, that was the culmination of all of JJ's talents and experience cranked up to 11.

Lost. In Space Wars.

I did watch the RLM review. That delivered all I could hope for out of this movie. Might watch it again.

As much of a cluster fuck as the movie is, it's worth trudging through it for the cool visuals and the rare positive moment. Just don't pay for it.

are you sure about that? because the interviews i have read say that RJ finished the TLJ script before TFA was even completed.
Johnson Didn’t Immediately Say Yes to Direct Episode 8

After he had released Looper, Johnson had been approached with offers to direct various franchises, and got very used to saying no, determined to continue writing and directing his own stuff. So when Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy brought him the offer to direct Star Wars Episode 8, his immediate instinct was to reject it. “But…it’s Star Wars,” Johnson said. “It was my whole world when I was a kid. It’s hard to overstate the importance in terms of the [franchise’s] foundations of my creative life. So it’s something that sort of stopped me in my tracks.” He told Kennedy that he would think about the offer.

“I thought I would go home and make a list of pros and cons. But what I did was I went home, and for several nights, I didn’t sleep… I stayed up all night watching documentaries about mountain climber disasters.”

In the end, Johnson said, “It wasn’t an intellectual decision, I just had to do it.”

Johnson Started Writing His Script Before Force Awakens Began Production

Johnson’s meeting with Kathleen Kennedy took place when J.J. Abrams and Lucasfilm were still prepping Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and production hadn’t even started yet. When Johnson came on board for Episode 8, the first thing he did was read script for Force Awakens. That was the only thing he had to go on when he was writing script for Last Jedi, Johnson said:

“When I was writing [the script] I was watching the dailies [from Force Awakens]. I’m really grateful the timing worked like that both so I could see Daisy, John, Adam, and Oscar in their roles, but I’m really thankful I wrote it before the movie came out. I was writing based on my personal reaction to the script and to what I was seeing, and not based on some kind of perception of the world’s reaction to it. That made it more personal in terms of the launching points I used for my movie.”
