Starfield - Fallout fallout that isn't ES6

Eh, you're paying for the expansion. The early access is just incentive for people who would normally never consider buying the expansion before playing the game. Plus, knowing Bethesda the expansion will probably cost $40 if you buy it separately.

Not saying I like the practice, and I only 'supported' it because I needed to spend expiring MS$, but you're making it sound like the only thing the $31.50 gets you is the early access and it isn't. I definitely wouldn't have bought it otherwise, already got burned on the Game Pass upgrade thing once before (Forza Horizon 5, it was even worse than FH4 and the DLCs are stuff I haven't even the slightest interest in playing).

That quote makes it seem like everyone has access September 1st whether you paid for the add on or not.

I agree. But if people pay for it then you're dumb not to take their money. It's going to get worse though.

$30 for a week early for a singe player game? How about $100 for a month early?

30 dollars for a week early (you also get the digital stuff + the first expansion/story DLC) is one thing, but I was more surprised at seeing "sold" at several copies from the news of the guy who stole copies. Sold several copies at 200-250 dollars just two weeks before release (and only one week away to just pay 30 to play it).

It’s like 30 bucks total if you have gamepass so a no brainer

Thing I am skeptical for about that is that I am paying for a DLC when odds are, by the time that comes around, mods might require the steam version as Vorph mentioned earlier. I'm considering just getting it on steam from the get go to avoid any hassles at all.

I'll just download the fitgirl repack of the Steam version if it comes to that, and not feel at all guilty about it since I already own it on both platforms. Hopefully script extender will only be required for the degenerate side of Bethesda game modding this time around. It was nice being able to play FO4 on console and PC with cross-save using the same mods on both versions (aside from texture/graphics mods on PC, but stuff like that doesn't put anything into the save files).

If I cheat with $1 for a month of game pass. let's say I want more time. Would I be locked into that service or anyway my save might cross over to steam?

Oh man, that brings me back. My friends and I used to play tons of Trade Wars and Legend of the Red Dragon. The guy hosting the BBS was always in trouble with his parents for hogging the phone line.
I used to play that all the time on Crystal Palace.

The concept of paying $20-30 extra to be allowed to play a game 3-7 days early needs to fucking die a horrible death. Hopefully one that involves the originators of this atrocious idea being flayed alive and fed to wild dogs.

Every single one of you who pays for that shit is a terrible person, and your nerd/man/good-person card is hereby revoked.
Nah, it's a great model. The developers get a chance to stress their system while filching hardcore fans of some $$$ and any release issues get ironed out for the people most willing to deal with the bugs instead of the unwashed masses. For most games I could give a shit about premium and early access and am glad by the time I get it, the intro has at least gone through thousands of people.

That being said, publishers that get too greedy and try to sell an "early access" game for an extra $20-30 without all the extra stuff in Starfield's premium version do more to earn your ire. Given that Starfield's premium is relatively generous in that it includes an unreleased DLC, that's not really the case.

checking back to skyrim. looks like save file transfers were as simple as copy/paste.

Version incompatibility might be a thing. like, if gamepass gets newer versions of the game, and steam doesn't for some reason. for example, gamepass skyrim is the anniversary edition. if I tried copy/pasting a save from there to my skyrim, which was release only. that probably would not work.

Currently, I plan to play it on gamepass. and only buy it on steam if I like it enough. space rpgs are a hard sell, despite how much I like the concept, and sci fi.
Space is big and empty. making a good rpg out of that is tough. planets are big, and making them interesting is a tough thing to do. usually just repetitive bullshit over and over. most games make them single biome making them even worse.
space combat/human combat. this game is going to have to balance TWO separate systems here... when bethesda hasn't even ever really done one well before.

Disappointed to hear that you don't land on planets...or even walk onto your ship. Feel like I'm going to get super frustrated at mini cut scenes that get in the way of exploring.

Ya, easy to say a dragon takes multiple axe hits, but shooting a pirate in the face with a laser 30 times makes it feel insubstantial
