The persistent world thing sounds far more annoying to me than the consolitis.

Nah its really easily managed. As long as you dont leave giant hordes of zombies near your base, have all your people in safe locations and morale and food is high, you'll not wake up to a crazy mess.

Plus I believe you're able to just set the time on your PC back to when you stopped and nothing happens. At least I think thats what people were doing with their xbox back in the day. I bought it for PC and the expansion to give that a try when I had some time for it but I played it originally when it came out on 360. You really need to play this with a controller, and when I purchased it for PC, it had that in bold.

Ok put about 13 hours into this game, I really love it so far. All the consolitis problems I listed aren't huge deals, but I'd like to add 'hilariously shifting fovs when I drive my camera' into the list of dumb shit game developers did.

I just built myself a home in the truck warehouse and things are looking pretty good. My guy is trained in suplexes and just demolishes zombies (I think that move is OP since it takes so little stamina. Like, it takes less stamina to charge at a zombie, pick it up in the air and slam its head into the ground than it does to swing a knife).

If I had anything to complain about it'd be that the game is a little too easy. I played more than I'll admit of this great flash game:Play Rebuild, a free online game on Kongregatewhich is sort of a turn-based strategy version of State of Decay and that game is a race against time to balance your team's exploration/building with the increasingly numerous zombie hordes. If you're too aggressive you'll lose too many people, if you're too passive you won't find enough people, if you fuck up your build order/timing you'll get overrun. In SoD you can just grab a car and start hitting all the hordes with your door and be ok np.

I also think that humans are a bit too nice in this game. Even though the law and the military are a bunch of dicks everyone is kind and not trying to rape me and take my ammunition and energy drinks.

I think adding some RTS components to this game would work really well. You go to base, tell persons ABC to go scout this house, tell persons DEF to go take out this horde etc, then go out to do your own thing with persons G and H. This micro-management only makes sense if not doing that would result in getting overrun.

But I'm only starting the game, so maybe the dynamics of the game changes later. For now I feel like my motivation to play the game as intended and build the best base and crew ever will be hindered by the fact that me and a mustang can ace this game.

So I have no idea what the Breakdown DLC is or how to use it, but I did buy it from Steam before I started playing. Anyone know what to do with it?

lol, I doubt that'll impact me as much because I'll probably be king of the world by weekend's end but that's a weird choice. I feel like I left my bros in a greaet state last night but will log on today to find them all starving and emotional.

Its really not a big deal. Some people hate the idea of it though, its to add variety for each play through.

As for the DLC, the DLC adds in abunch of weapons and some other things. But the main draw is that you can find a RV and take along the dudes you want and start over again on a repopulated/respawned map. In the normal game, supplies are randomly palaced but do not respawn, and survivors stop spawning in enclaves after a point. I think they also added in a 1-10 difficulty gauge to, so you can crank it up.

Breakdown lets you do a sandbox mode that is a good bit harder and doesn't have a storyline behind it. It's just seeing how long you can survive.

Oh cool that sounds great. And a difficulty of ten is basically impossible?

I played for a few hours just to see what the fuss was about. While the interface is a little annoying to navigate, the biggest problem is that this game is just boring as fuck. These vast open worlds are better suited for games like Day Z because running from abandoned building to abandoned building by yourself is for the birds. Oh yeah, you can't even kill other survivors which I was incredibly disappointed about.

So I'm pretty sure I'm an evil character from The Walking Dead.

I'm playing breakdown and trying to create the ultimate survival dream team which means rolling the dice on survivors over and over looking for well rolled experts. Meanwhile the inability to see the survivor stats until they're in your group and the inability to kick them out results in having to kill most of your survivors on purpose. So I have a shed behind my base where I keep zombies stocked, and anytime I pick up a group of new survivors I send almost all of them to feed them.

I'm playing the shit out of Breakdown. The original game is just one huge tutorial for breakdown. I found this mod:
Backpacks and Pick-ups fix with climbable pickups at State of Decay Nexus - Mods and community

That makes the game sooo much better by making it trivial to drive around with packs in your norma. It's even a fun and semi-realistic minigame of trying to keep them in your truck. Last night I hit a huge bump while going full speed and one of the packs went flying 20 feet in the air so I had to move my car to catch it midair.

Yeah that is exactly why I re bought the game for PC. I knew the mods would make some tedious bullshit better. I might have to load it up this weekend and give it a try with some choice mods. Anything else you find thats interesting or cuts out dumb bullshit? Quick glance I saw a mod to allow upgrades to built-in facilities, that was a minor gripe of mine.

Just picked this game up on the summer sale and I'm really digging it so far. 5 bucks well spent.

Cool, I didn't know there was a mod community for this, should turn my 5 bucks well spent into some of my best 5 bucks ever spent on a vidya game.

A couple of questions, am I doing something wrong by using cars so much? It just seems way too easy to get a car and kill a couple of hordes and a house full of zeds. It also makes all the noise making devices seemingly pointless. Need a distraction? get a car. House has an infestation? Sit outside the front door and lay on the horn and ram zombies into the front porch has they come out. For cars to be this powerful it seems they should have made useable ones very rare, but they seem to be all over the place.

Other question is, is there ever any point in using quick search? I've only used it twice and both times it spawned zombies, second time also alerting a horde causing me to get overrun. Not really any quicker if you have to kill a bunch of zombies every time you use it. Is it only there to try and search quickly while already having zombies around you? Seems pretty dumb to do that.

Are you playing Breakdown? Like I said in my previous post the game radically changes in higher levels in breakdown and the story mode of the game is almost like a tutorial.

Anyway, in Breakdown there are fewer cars at higher levels, so instead of there being 40 cars in a city there will be 4. And if you blow them up you're SOL.

iirc Quick search is good at higher levels of wits. Plus at higher levels of breakdown the early scavenging aspect of the game is almost a race against time to get your group's shit together before everyone dies from disease, and the mid-end parts of the game you spend so much time scavenging it's worth it to quicksearch just to get on with it.

Ok, the car thing makes sense. No breakdown yet, just playing the base game and will probably move onto other games after that before coming back and picking up breakdown, but I do plan to at some point.
