It's really good. Same studio that made Cowboy Bebop, and that's where the similarities end.

same creative team, not same studio. everyone forgets Cowboy Bebop was made by Sunrise who is otherwise only known for Gundam shows.

Champloo is a great show.

And Sunrise made more than just Gundam. 2 years before Champloo came out, they also did Witch Hunter Robin. I liked that one also.

I've been slowly watching more and more anime over the past year, as my "normal" show viewing has dropped practically to nothing. Solo Leveling really grabbed me, so I got a Crunchroll account and have been trying out more and more. I've watched a few of the staples, Konosuba, Kaiju #8, etc. And I'll admit, a guilty pleasure of mine is Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt blah blah. That one is so ridiculous that I love it. Maple is the best. I could watch 10 seasons of her being ridiculously OP.

Ones I've watched that I can remember, besides those above:
Shangri-la Frontier
The Brilliant Healer's New Life in the Shadows
Arifureta: From Commonplace to World's Strongest
Failure Frame
Frieren (not done, but right in the feels from the very start)
I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World
I Left My A-Rank Party
Unaware Atelier Meister

(Spoilering my sorta longish rant about stuff I dislike already.)

However...I can't fucking stand the grown adult characters that look like little kids. Crunchyroll is always recommending shit, and I try it but can't take those fucking characters. My Hero Academia is a perfect example. Supposedly it is great, but I couldn't last 3 episodes. But it isn't always just the kids, Fire Force has that guy that is always grinning, and even though I got to the part where he explains why he does it, I still can't watch it. It doesn't help any that he's sort of a kid looking dude too.

Now, I can still watch some that have those characters if others still look like adults. Like that I Left My A-Rank Party one. Almost all the girls in that one look good, particularly the dark elf chick. But the one he likes most is the 12-year-old looking wizard chick. Yuck. I still watched it, but it almost repulses me every time they get romantic. This isn't me trying to be all prudish or anything either, because I'll freely admit that if the dark elf and the redhead wanted to gangbang me, I would. I just physically rebel against the "adult" kid characters. I'm sure there is a Jap name for them, and the fetish, but I don't know it.

Another perfect example is that new Unaware Atelier Meister. The main dude is 15, so he should look like a kid, and he's a goofy do-gooder that you can't help but like. The Princess, meh, kid look, but at least she's also only 15. The older white-haired girl though is exactly what I want to see in anime. She looks and acts adult. But they always have to throw the fucking kid looking ones in. Why?!

I watched like 10 or more episodes of the reincarnated as a slime one, and while it was pretty good, eventually he got a body that looks like an androgynous 10 year-old. Yuck. They even had hot elf whores in an earlier episode, and slutty orc women, but now I have to watch this fucking twink? I liked him better as a slime.

Anyway, long story short, are there any really good ones, past or future, that I should look out for that don't have too much of the "18 year-old person that looks like they are 12" flaw? I don't even mind if they are romancey, just as long as it isn't a fucking kid in the romance.
Outside of Frieren, I don't think I have watched an Anime made in the last 10 years; so no idea what all those are about. For the classics like Bebop, which had wide appeal and should still hold up animation wise, here are a couple more:
  • Ghost in the Shell (movie and TV show) - Cyberpunk that has mature themes; I would rank it second or third after Bebop, out of the limited Anime I've seen
  • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - A late 19th (or early 20th) century world with magic. While the main protags are teenagers, it should still hold up to an older viewer, although I haven't seen it since around the time it was released.
Bonus: Darker Than Black - supernatural thriller with Sci-fi elements. It's been a long time, but I remember liking it more than Death Note. Dunno how much "widespread appeal" it had though. It was picked up by Funimation and shown on Adult Swim (I think).

Void Void , There’s always a few excellent anime every season. Was Dandadan mentioned? It’s a top tier choice. Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia, and Jujetsu Kaisen are all top tier. It mainly depends on what you like and you should experiment. Lots of things I’ve liked that others suggested and I’d never have watched without the suggestion. Like Spice and Wolf, and Don’t toy with me, Miss Nagatora. I also like a few traditional Iseksi every season even with them being too overused. There’s always good anime to watch. I really like Bungo Stray Dogs and saved them for dry spells. I need a new backup since I’m caught up now. Probably Rurouni Kenshin remake. Tons of good stuff.

It's almost time.
This is the website that provides the list of things on case you want to browse further.

I just noticed a new season of dragon maid. That's a peaceful enough show.

3 new shows have come out on Crunchy so far.
Takopii no Genzai (Takopi's Original Sin) - Magic "cute" alien octopus that can talk. Before the show starts, it gave a warning that it was about suicide and coming to terms with things. I made it about 5 minutes. This show is terrible. I can only assume the MC offs herself because she's miserable about everything. Pass.

Lord of Mysteries - Chinese. At least the intro credits & opening sound track. I hate listening to Chinese. Lots of blood in this. Nice animation. It's computer, and it looks terific. More Chinese dialogue though. It looks like Crunchyroll is going to release a Japanese dub of the show, but they haven't yet. I'll hold off on watching until it's out. I really don't like listening to Chinese. Such a shit language.

Koujo Denka no Kateikyoushi (Private Tutor to the Duke's Daughter) - Opening scene appears "slice of life", but then it mentions magic. So that isn't the case. Animation is high quality. Story seems peaceful enough. I don't dislike it, but not sure if I will stick with it.

oh yeah so yesterday i finally finished Attack on Titan. yes, i never finished the show. i had the two long episodes/movie left and finally watched it. can someone explain to me like i'm 12 what the ending was? maybe it's because it had been like 4 yrs since season "4" ended but i was really lost with regards to everything with Eren and Armin.

It's actually pretty spot on. Eren attempts to destroy the world so that Mikasa and Armin will be forced to act and take him out, because he has no hope for anything changing. They do, he dies, and then it's over. The intraweb post credits scene of the damaged kid heading to the tree just shows that the cycle will repeat because humanity really likes destroying itself or something.

I'm sure there's something deeper; I actually didn't like Attack on Titan after it became a political drama vs. a "fucking giant naked humans are eating people" kind of thing. Not that it isn't good, I just wasn't in the mood for it.

Rent-a-Girlfriend is back, bringing the best Ichynose with it. The show's trash, and so am I. But damn is it brainless entertainment.

So it really was exactly how it seemed then. Thought maybe there was more to it I missed since I hadn't watched in so long. Oh well, was still a better show than 99% of crap out there and at least it got to play out in its entirety.

Yeah, I think so too.
And additionally, Vending Machine is back as of today. I'm looking forward to seeing where season 2 takes the story. It's silly fun.

Really? I tried, but couldn't even get into it.

Girl lives in a small village. They have no idea what exists outside of their continent, because every time they send a ship out to explore, it never returns. So they assume there are 4 magic beast leaders that guard the 4 compass directions and kill whoever passes. Some legend says someone is going to eventually kill the 4 beasts. so the continent can explore the rest of the world. I don't like this show either, so I shut it off after 10 minutes.

The only new show that I've enjoyed so far is Koujo Denka no Kateikyoushi (Private Tutor to the Duke's Daughter). And I didn't even love it, just liked it enough to try another episode.

That said, Rent-a-Girlfriend continues to be exactly what I want it to be. Hopefully I'll get a chance to watch Vending Machine tomorrow, but I've shut almost everything else off early.
