Mario's Fri, Sat, Sun domestic beats Frozen 2 by 14 million.

144 million vs 130.

Mario 5 day domestic is 204M
So 60 million Weds/Thurs that takes away from Fri- Sun tally.
Yeah, the estimates went up significantly, but the article was also talking globally not just domestically.

In a non-clown world media outlets would be running stories on how out of touch and worthless movie critics have become. 56% critic score vs 96% audience score

You act like that is a recent thing. Critics have been out of sync with general audiences for decades

The only thing that has really changed is what counts as a critic and too many clout chasers basically do "clickbait" reviews to get eyeballs on them

This review sums up all of the critics. These people hate you.

I thought it was common knowledge critic scores on Rotten Tomatoes was to be ignored.
Was only brought up because someone thought we actually meant the critics score when talking about how the movie was being scored. I have no idea how anyone could confuse the two, but.... w/e

At some point, John Woo's production company option'ed or maybe even bought the movie rights for Metroid. That would have been a weird one.

As far as doing a single protagonist movie, I feel like many horror and adventure movies, without even touching the more arty things, have huge chunks in them with only a single character. Things like The Decent or REC come to mind. The Revenant also... most of The Martian... Even not going that far into the arty territory, you have things like All Is Lost by Chandor with Redford alone on a sinking sailboat. If you feel things get too dry, you can always insert some flashbacks here and there, or have the character taking audio logs. A movie could also expand on the Metroid universe with the space pirates and the bounty hunters and places that are not ancient ruins and abandoned mining facilities. Personally, I would enjoy if somehow Metroid ended in the hands of some borderline experimental filmaker (I mean, we have Gerwig and Baumbach doing a Barbie movie, so anything is possible!) and we got an almost totally silent exploration movie all about atmosphere. Like a Terrence Malik or one of these Thai director like Pen-ek Ratanaruang or Apichatpong Weerasethakul (both made very atmospheric films set in the jungle).
these are so good point. but FFS NINTENDO can't get Metroid games to shut the fuck up. if they don't understand Metroid, no way a movie wouldn't be a giant mess.

As much as it sounds like a cool idea. The reality is, no movie would capture Metroid: Prime, better then Metroid: Prime itself.

How is it wrong? I know this forum has the memory of goldfish at times, but the phenomenon of critics sniffing their own farts and being divorced from how general audiences receive a movie has been a thing for a very long time. Specifically, the late 90s/early 2000s is when you start to see a noticeable schism that becomes more polarized. The definition of journalist and critic start to take on a new meaning when every person with a blog or “news” website is lumped with newspapers and major media outlets. In a world where suddenly everyone is a critic and is seen, you ironically can’t be seen unless you really stand out. I’m not going to do the research for you, but I specifically recall that pivotal moment where one guy in podunk town posted some completely shitty review on a well loved movie on Rotten Tomatoes and it went viral. Then he kept posting shitty reviews because it got eyeballs on him. It was the manufactured outrage/hateclick meta starting and how dudes like nerdrotic and quartering make lots of money now on YouTube, or kotaku posts “reviews” about the Hogwarts game that don’t even mention the game except in passing and focuses on some culture war crap - put shit out that will get controversy, get views, get money

The bright side of Nintendo being Japanese is that it might actually be a Legend of Zelda story rather than a movie where Sheik spends the entire time being better than Link at everything and played by a dude.
The dark side of Nintendo being a Japanese company is that they can just be happy with the amount of money they make and will take 20 more years to make another movie. Companies had been trying to get the rights to make this movie for at least a decade (the Sony leaks a while back showed that), and probably closer to 20 years. Even the negotiations for this movie took a few years, production was only like 2 years and they started talking in like 2016.

The great success of this movie and the overall good partnership with Illumination will probably remove a lot of their timidity and we wont have to wait 30 years like after the last one, but Nintendo is more protective of their IP than Disney, dont have to answer to American shareholders, and make enough money that things will move at their pace on everything (glacial).

Although, with all that said, I'd be shocked if we don't see a Mario 2 in like 3 or so years. But I won't be holding my breath on seeing Link or Samus on the big screen any time soon.

I'm not interested in Mario porn. Certainly not Donkey Kong porn. Or even Yoshi porn, for that matter.

I dont care, nor want to see, cartoon porn. You people that enjoy that shit are one step away from furries, and two steps away from transitioning.

Reminds me of that old manga excerpt where the guy logics that people throughout history used non-photographic representations of sex or hot women to get aroused, so if a human is unable to do that with drawings, then they have a defective brain

Saw the film earlier.

definitely a good origin story. Acting was good all around but I just don’t get Jack Black personally. Whenever he was voicing Bowser, it sounded like he was doing an impression of Jim Cummings version of Pete from Disney

story was really, REALLY simple. This is definitely a kids movie for sure.

i enjoyed the DnD movie more despite being more of a Nintendo fan than dungeons fan

7/10 from my POV but as a kids movie it’s at least an 8, possibly 9/10
