yeah. I was almost tempted to go see this... but then saw Superman and gave up any hope.

So, I've worked on a number of versions of Supergirl over the years. red lantern, post benoit tv show. pre lantern. my Avatar is the short run with Emanuela Lupachino doing the art. That was with Supergirl joining a interstellar superhero academy.


Supergirl has a long messy history. like insane. Both Kara, and Linda. And then Powergirl herself on top of that...
PG is pretty popular in fandom yes. unknown outside it. they'd mess PG up too..

Kara spent most of the "modern" comics dead. She was a silver age character and her core storylines with it, are very silly.
Kara's biggest known storyline is Crisis on Infinite Earths. 1985. the year after the old Supergirl movie bombed. and it needs to be said, Crisis on Infinite Earths rebooted DC comics, and basically everything everyone knowns as DC Canon, is post crisis. Super pre-crisis stuff gets brought back constantly. but, league of shadows, Lex-corp, etc all post crisis.

Kara of course famously died in Crisis on Infinite earths. She stayed dead until 2005. Brought back edgelord style.
this version of her is not well liked.
rebooted again for nu52. This is the red lantern version.
Rebooted again after the tv show to match tv show.

Supergirl:women of tomorrow reboots again.. 2021. WELLLL past DC going woke/broke. tom king. praised by woke critics. didnt sell that great really.
2025 rebooted again. Trans artist Sophie Campbell..


1994 Matrix. Psuedo supergirl reboot. turns out like Death of superman, and the fake Superman's. this lookalike was not really Kara. Matrix. a shapeshifting construct.
1996- Linda lee. merges with Matrix to become a new Supergirl. This version is a hometown girl, trying to be a superhero. Earth-born angel. her storylines are insane. just pure coke.


DC animated universe.
without question, the most popular version of Supergirl. A mix of Linda Lee, and silver age Supergirl.

This is without a doubt how Supergirl should be portrayed.

Silver age supergirl. 15-17 year old girl, from Argos. been on Earth for 3months-2 years. Knowns nothing about Human culture, history, or childhoods. everything she knows should be surface level. Starfire from Teen Titans cartoon is a great example of what Supergirl should be like. or, Miss Martian from the more recent Titans show. everything she knows is from TV. constantly talking about things from back home.

inexperienced and dangerously so. this was a big thing with silverage supergirl. 15 year old girl, living in "a world of cardboard". Superman was keeping her hidden because she could accidently hurt someone, until she learned to control her powers better. She didnt grow up on Earth with them, like he did.

But at the same time, she's a Tourist and just in constant awe of the world around her.

Nu52 and on did try to do this a bit. but went a bit TOO foreign, and angsty. Not being able to speak English, full alien kill humans. Red Lantern "my home is goooone" and so on.
you do this, but you have to have the character WANT to fit in, and join humanity.

They started to come around on this, having her get a secret identity, and become room mates with Silver banshee.. but TV Reboot killed that.

Mike Maihack had her perfect.

James gunn was not the right choice. Clearly just a one note machine sadly.

women of tomorrow was a shit book, even if they DID follow it closely.

I haven't watched it yet, but that new Superman series seems to lean into a variant where she shows up militant, and then becomes essentially kryptonian Starfire.

yeah, its hard to nail perfectly. Alien but friendly open and likable.

Her backstory is also just constantly retconned. although its stablized.

Powergirl is Kara zor-L from Earth 2. The golden age. Justice Society, Jay Garrick flash, Carter hall Hawkman, alan Scott Green lantern.
Golden age comics are retconned to have been Earth 2. so, Action comics #1. thats earth 2, Kal-L.

Crisis on infinite earths rebooted Earth 2, and decided Powergirl was actually Atlantean not Kryptonian. but that was stupid and everyone hated it. so was retconned back..

Earth 2 is destroyed in Infinite crisis, and Powergirl is the "sole survivor". brought over to Earth 1.

Powergirl is older. mid twenties. Consistently a Team leader. more confident and mature.
JSA, Birds of prey, and Justice league:international. She has way more comics then supergirl at this point.

a bunch of iconic storylines. infinite crisis. Justice league international all of it. checkmate/max lord. Friendship with Ted Kord/Booster.

The Conner/palmatti legendary run of Powergirl. with Atlee/Terra.

yeah. and to be clear, part of what I was trying to articulate was, since Kara spent the major formulative decades of comics 85-2005 DEAD. There ISN"T a "standard classic Supergirl" in the first place.

and yes, as noted in my last post, Powergirl does have more iconic stories, and amore defined character at this point. Since she WAS alive during this period.


The EFAP guys keep insisting making movies about "d list heroes" is a bad idea. people will only go to see superman/batman. Which I think is stupid. Marvel built their MCU on d-listers. They SOLD their A-list to fox and sony. spiderman, xmen, wolverine. even Hulk. Guardians of the Galaxy was z list. 1 good comic, and otherwise completely unknown. niche even to comic readers. Iron man was c-list. Thor was d-list. and so on.

so yeah, I think a powergirl, Boostergold movie should work if its good. ... if its good. Black adam, blue beetle, Shazam....


PG is also older, so you can get an older actress. for Supergirl I would want someone 17-20 tops.
PG does also come more baked into an established Superhero universe. Her character doesn't work as well without other superheroes existing. You can tell a SG story where she and superman are the only ones.

I feel like, of everyone here, you should be aware that their last name isn't the letter L.

I know you have a frenzied, spastic, leave out extra words and punctuation and capitalization writing style, but it is literally just saving one letter the way you are doing it. And that's not counting you putting the dash in instead, which definitely takes longer to type.

On topic, the animated DCU version of Supergirl is far and away my favorite. I am pretty sure I even posted her fight with Darkseid somewhere in this thread, or elsewhere at least. The earnest girl that is also a bit bewildered and enchanted by everything is what they should have gone for. Not some alcoholic mess. Even the animated movies where she joins the team in the future is vastly better than this, because she's trying to make friends and learn to trust people but also become a hero like her cousin. Not see how much it takes for her to get drunk.
