Part of the problem with these movies is that the whole time paradox theory went out the window years ago and now its separation of realities. There's less concern involved when you realize you're not saving your reality no matter what, but the new one.

my understanding Genisys was going to play on being able to cross realities if it got sequels. they could have turned it into Sliders lol.

to beat a dead horse, looks like DF is going to finish $100mil below Salvation's global box office. saw the estimates are now at losses of over $130m

Also T3 wasn't necessarily a bad movie taken in a vacuum, it's just that it kind of messed with the timeline/lore stuff

I feel like that was the one cool thing about T3, which was otherwise mostly just a shot for shot remake of T2. The idea of Judgement Day's inevitability.

Yeah I don't really mind it, just saying that any time travel shit is almost always going to be awful and then you repeat it 20234987214 times through a bunch of sequels and it's just a convoluted shit sandwich.

i think, honestly, the only way to make time travel work is if it's, more or less, chekhov's gun. any movie where it's introduced and it's just hand waved already is an uphill battle. in t1, time travel works because john conner sends kyle back in time to become his father. it's an interesting little twist. in t2 it works because the premise is already set and it's basically just nonstop over the top action, so you sort of forget any of the time travel stuff. but every movie after that, the time travel stuff becomes more of an eyesore in the plot because it's there, but it's not really doing anything.

The only way these movies will ever be good again is if Arnold dies/stops doing them. The execs can't help themselves and have to include him at all costs, which means they need to find a way to fit him into the script. What the IP needs is to throw everything out of the window and find the right fresh filmmaker who has an actual love for the IP to make something new and raw. The only real things you need for it to remain Terminator is: An unstoppable killer after a nobody that is being targeted by something/someone for reasons well above their current status, the kickass theme song, and tons of action. Anything else is really just fanservice. You've already failed the moment you try to fit Skynet, or the Connors, or the T800 into things.

One could argue that if you're going to make a movie without Skynet, the Connors or the T800, maybe you shouldn't make a Terminator movie. It's not like Terminator has the copyrights down on killer robots or future wars.

Of course, but the name is the primary draw. The other elements (and trying to fit them in) are what is causing this endless loop of shitty sequels. The series has a bad case of the "DO YOU REMEMBER!" nostalgia porn.

there should be a rule, if your name isnt Stallone, you do not get to reprise your old movie roles in your 60s.

DF left theaters after 56 days, shortest run in the series $62,253,077 domestic and $250,904,475 worldwide
$114,5mil behind Salvation's worldwide and $27,5mil behind Gensys's domestic to take last place in both categories for the sequels.

Sad that after 2019, two of my favorite franchises; Star Wars and Terminator, are effectively dead to me.

sigh

When they said that growing old meant watching your friends die, they never said anything about how your interests get raped as well. (Looking at you, Star Trek and many others)

I watched this, Rambo, and Hobbs & Shaw last night and Terminator was the worst of the three. Rambo wasn’t great but it was what it was. Hobbs & Shaw was great. This was just a mess. No evil Terminator has been portrayed as well as Robert Patrick did in T2 (overlooking T1 as a different premise) and it really hurts these movies.

It's weird that Fast and Furious is the only franchise standing, although Marvel could pull through depending on how SJW it gets.

Mission Impossible
James Bond
Jurassic Park
all the Pixar stuff
fuck tons of cartoons
MCU is stronger than ever, every new movie makes more than the last
tons of horror franchises do really well
Harry Potter could probably do really well with TV and stuff (prob in 3-4 years), Fantastic Beasts is awful but still does well box office

Its just really the attempt to restart/redo 80s franchises that keeps failing miserably.

Hollywood can't do original works. Streaming services and TV networks are trying to snap up every book series first and the people making decisions at studios are consulting that shaman the Korean PM was giving state secrets.

I wish the execs were actually like Tom Cruise from Tropic Thunder, cause then this bullshit wouldn't be happening.
