If he were somehow able to bring the Legacy of Kain/Soul Reaver IP with him to MS and give it the same love the Tomb Raider reboots got I'd be excited. Given the past few years though we will probably get Gex building go karts.

Perhaps but at least they are finally doing something.

He left CD in 2015, and was working for Activision. Square Enix owns CD anyway, their IPs aren't going anywhere (especially not to MS after the RotTR disaster, I would think).

Sucks that we'll probably never get another Kain game unless SE hands it off to Eidos Montréal or some other studio to make it.

How's the PS4 for streaming media? (Plex streams, YouTube, and Netflix)

If I'm going to drop a fat dime on an Nvidia box, would it be worth it to look at the PS4 as well?

Most streaming sites have their own apps like HBO, Netflix, Amazon, and so on. They all work fine. Plex supports PS4.

why buy an nvidia box? i don't even know what that is, is it a shield?

and yeah ps4 or xb1 do streaming just fine, xb1 is slightly better imo for video stuff since it supports dolby ATMOS and the disc player in the S and X do 4k UHDs whereas no model of PS4 supports UHD discs. That only applies I guess if you buy UHD discs, if you are 100% streaming then either one is fine. If you wait till black friday you should be able to get a ps4 slim for like $150 ($200 last year)

If by Plex you mean downloading BD rips, both consoles suck ass because they do not support DTS and pretty much every quality rip still uses DTS or DTS-MA for audio. Not to mention that Plex transcodes the video as well. They are so bad for this purpose compared to what the PS3 could do that I switched to a Kodi box and never looked back. The Nvidia Shield TV seems vastly overpriced compared to just using a Fire TV, but I haven't tried either one personally. Planning on getting a Fire TV soon though. [Also note that there is a Kodi app for the xbone, but it has the same audio restrictions that Plex and whatever else is out there does.]

Last I checked (which was a long time ago, admittedly) the YouTube app on PS4 was garbage. Not sure about xbone.

Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. are all fine on consoles.

Does Nintendo Switch have any good streaming capabilities for Netflix, Plex, and YT?

Or is it still shit tier?

I really wish Amazon hadn't dropped the 2nd Gen Fire TV. The 3rd Gen is underpowered junk that's barely better than the Fire TV stick and doesn't even have an ethernet port unless you buy a separate USB to ethernet dongle, and all the compatible ones seem to be 10/100 (which is slower than the wifi unless you have *really* bad wifi) anyway. Good luck streaming 4K video over that.

The worst part is that once people figured out Amazon massively downgraded the Fire TV there was a run on all remaining 2nd Gen stock, even the refurbs. Now you're lucky to find a used one on ebay for less than double the original price. It wouldn't be such a huge deal, but if you want a single device that can do Kodi (with bitstream audio passthrough), Netflix UHD, and Prime Video/Music, the Fire TV is literally the only option. If you can live without Kodi or Prime there's other options that can do 2/3 of it, but that's the deal-breaker for me.

I swapped my launch PS4 Pro for a God of War PS4 Pro today for ~100 (plus an extra copy of God of War I can trade in). Gamestop is offering $240 + $50 bonus if you buy a God of War PS4 Pro console this weekend, unfortunately stock is insanely limited as they only allocated enough for people who actually pre ordered. Luckily the store leader at the one I go to regularly called me today morning and said someone cancelled one, his wife wouldn't allow it (haha). Its a flat $50 bonus on any ps4/xb1/switch trade but the problem is finding one in stock, you can View Stores with your zip code and call in the store if any are around you:
https://www.gamestop.com/ps4/consoles/playstation-4-pro-1tb-god-of-war-limited-edition-system/159575

Its a bit ugly console but the controller is cool and it is a model 7100 PS4 Pro vs the launch 7000. The $50 bonus expires tomorrow so have to do it today/tomorrow

I use an external drive to store all my games so transferring was incredibly smooth, just hooked up a 1 gig USB drive (FAT32), it took ~20 mins to backup about 20 gigs of "stuff" to the drive (save data, screenshots, some sorta DLC stuff for games), wiped the system, and did the reverse on the new system and everything got restored. So nice and clean. This is the fourth PS4 now I've moved stuff around and i've carried P.T. over every time.

Microsoft is also selling the Xbox One X Scorpio edition on eBay for some bizarre reason, $499 msrp but it comes with that cool scorpio logo on the console and controller! thats worth another $100-200... right...

I have heard from three different sources stating that Microsoft is pushing forward with new hardware but that the release timeline is still several years away.

The company is looking to hire a specialist with GDDR6 expertise and they are also exploring how to deeply integrate game streaming into their next console.
As for the timeline for the next console release, I’ve heard that within three years is a realistic possibility; the company is not currently in a rush to replace the Xbox One X as it has a significant horsepower advantage when compared to the current offering from Sony. And as you would expect, the console will be backward and forwards compatible, much like the Xbox One X; Paul is also hearing that Microsoft is building another iteration of the Xbox as well.

Even though Microsoft is pushing more towards the enterprise with its Windows and Office services, Xbox is one of the few brands inside of Microsoft that has managed to create a huge consumer-following and has a large upside ahead of it as gaming, and eSports, continue to grow. The company has also recently announced that it is expanding its E3 presence that further shows that Microsoft is not shying away from gaming.

While Nintendo has carved out a sizeable chunk of the casual gaming market with its Switch, the Xbox only has one primary competitor; Sony. Even though the PlayStation has the lead for this generation, Microsoft is making significant investments in hardware/content to close the gap with Sony and has the financial backing to go all-in on gaming to win the next generation.

Xbox, After the X - Thurrott.com

If Microsoft can invest in some quality talent to lead first party studios who know how to give studios the time they need to polish great games that'd be great news, its a bit of a joke comparing the 2018 Sony and Microsoft exclusives.

Will Microsoft ever learn that superior hardware doesn't mean shit if the games are way better on Sony's systems?
