I never excused Microsoft for their actions.
If you don't feel that's what you're doing, I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt on it.

But it has felt like that's the argument you're making here.

Neither company are saints, and don't think I'm saying that. I'm merely saying that Microsoft's transgressions with Win 8, Vista, now this, its all too much. They need their consumers to stop buying their products for awhile, they need to take that hit so the shareholders will go up there and throttle management back into sanity. Things are out of control up there.

How much punishment is enough in your opinion. My biggest fear is that Xbone is such a failure that they get out of the game for good. Then you get one company with no competition that can dictate whatever the fuck it wants to you.

I still don't think this DRM shit is over. That fucking cloud that both companies have talked about is a nice and easy way to make your game online only.

I'd like to see the xbox 1 underperform at launch fairly significantly this year. I think that would really shock Microsoft awake in ways other failures haven't so much. I really think a big part of WHY they took this DRM move is because, basically, they felt that this past generation they had "won" the console wars. That's how they made these types of mistakes. Its like Bush on the fucking aircraft carrier, you know? Mission Accomplished. The hubris is why they're taking these massive oversteps. The hubris comes from being insulated behind a wall of yes men and syncophants, separated from real world consequences. In business terms the only real world consequences they'll really ever recognize are financial hits. Its just a reality.

No I don't want Microsoft out of the industry, far from it. I want them in the industry, but I want them to move away from a lot of the policies they've developed and that they've encouraged with publishers and developers (like yearly rehash cycles and endless linear corridor shooters) and go back to what made Microsoft kinda cool back in the day: Open platforms, wide market reach, and not entirely sadist anti consumer policies (Microsoft has always been kinda shitty to consumers though).

Why aren't all of these games coming to the PC? Is it just because it's so easy to pirate PC games?
What games? I'm pretty sure all the third party Western games are coming to PC except for Ubisoft's titles (which isn't really surprising considering it's fucking Ubisoft and they have a stick up their ass about PC piracy). Even some of Microsoft's "exclusives" are also coming to PC like Titanfall (and there's buzz about that getting a delayed PS4 release). Many Japanese third-party games not getting PC releases is, of course, no surprise.

Would have preferred to see MS leave the game console space entirely, which they were well on the track towards before this reversal. Now it'll sell moderately well. For shame. Its past time for MS to step down and another player to step up in this market. Either Valve with Steambox, or perhaps Google, Apple, Samsung or someone else.

Really glad MS stepped back. PS4 is still the superior choice by far but it seems like after Diablo3 and Simcity being such a fiasco I'm glad companies are realizing that deabilitating DRM hurts their bottom line.

I'm also glad that the fanboy wars are a little more even now. We only need a drop in price and a few real exclusives on the Xbone for Sean to have some competition in the consumer electronics blowjob dept.

I hope people don't flock to the Xbox One because I believe you'll see their ways creep back in slowly. I noticed in an interview today, believe it was Balmer, said they felt the original policies will still work in this digital age but are doing this in reaction to their community outcry. Will this help them? Absolutely. I still think they need to cut their price $50.00 and then they'll be in business but i'm still upset with the entire event and then follow-up comment by the guy that told everyone to buy a 360. I just don't feel like giving people like that my money.

I'd absolutely welcome the Xbone being a worthwhile purchase. I love my X360 and it is a great machine (I was considered a Microsoft fanboy for a long time!). However, Microsoft done fucked up and it's such a bad buy compared to Sony's offering (even with the DRM stripped out) that I feel it'soffensivelyidiotic to purchase one in the current situation.

If the kinect plus pass through for watching tv works as advertised with my provider, why would that be idiotic if those are features important to a consumer? I'll buy a xbone just for that if it works like they say.

I never understood people caring about the kinect spying on them. Sure I'd be against buying it just because the device is always on but you can sabotage it so easily the constant surveillance should be a nonissue.

You still have to have your box hooked up, so what's the point? 500 bucks for a pass through and not having to flip inputs seems fucking retarded to me, especially since it'd be stupid to play anything but exclusives on the Xbone and they have yet to show a killer app exclusive or even a group of them that screams "you must buy this box for these!"

That sounds like pissing money down the drain for the sake of pissing money down the drain.

Does the X180 allow you to play when the Kinect is facing a wall though?
