I'm primarily a PC gamer; I do not give a fuck about running my games through any other platform. I own a 360, Wii, PS3 as well as all handhelds (except the Vita, because I am fucking DISGUSTED there is no way to get a digital form of the games I already paid for on the PSP) solely for the exclusives. In the past few years I can only think of maybe a few games I did not buy on PC that were not exclusives, and all of them I later bought GOTY versions of on PC later. (Things like Arkham Asylum that had PS3 exclusives to let you play as joker in challenge maps and the bones challenge map which was fun as shit.)
I play things on PC because in general I find them to look better and have less issues. (Depending, this is up for debate I am sure, and there are notable exceptions, like dark souls which was ported and had a relatively bad port to PC, etc. It should be noted I own a CE of both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls for the PS3.)
I am relatively fucking annoyed anytime shit has to run through something else. Arkham City gave me a HELL of a fucking time; in fact that game is incorrectly tied to a fake gamertag through windows live on my PC instead of to my xbox gamertag, because it WEIRDLY picked up my secondary email account and assigned it a random gamertag and fuck-if-give-a-shit-because-i-bought-the-goty-on-steam-later.
Origin is a POS, and gives more trouble than anything else.
Steam is the only thing I can rely on because it's hassle free, puts everything at my fingertips, and makes it easy. Like xbox dashboard USED to be, before they started tying PC games to that shit.
And as someone who worked in the industry a long time (both retail and otherwise) I can tell you the majority of console owners own a console because it's extraordinarily cheaper to run the same game than it is on a PC. To run skyrim and have it look beautiful required a pretty decent setup - I upgrade my rig regularly and it's usually 1.5k+, more or less depending on what I am going for or how long I've waited. There are a lot of people who actually say they wouldn't mind playing things on the PC and might even prefer it, but 299.99 versus fucking 1.5k is a no brainer.
Hell, I don't even buy shit from Amazon 1/2 the time unless they have steam keys. 2K games are notorious for never correctly registering to a steam account and I raged. I also get some what excited when I buy games and they automatically load through steam, even as a retail copy. (Notable games have been Skyrim, Dishonored, etc.)
Everyone wants to compete with steam, but this is the crux of your fucking issue: 1) You're not as good or as hassle free as steam 2) You try to rope me in to using shit exclusively for a variety of reasons, some of which I'm sure I'm ignorant of 3) We'll still have issues to things that will only register through steam, or will try to register as both, or yada fucking yada.
I have keys that will register to both Origin and Steam; I have keys that only register to one. It is a fucking mess. PC usage has relatively been worry-free, as long as I am not using that heathen of a machine called the mac. Steam is great, no fucking way am I getting anything to run shit through the 720. If I want a console experience or something akin to it, I use an xbox controller on my PC. Fuck this metro crap, the xbox live on PC is already an atrocity. YOU'RE KILLING ME SMALLS.
