a_skeleton_03, I get what you're saying but I don't think you see Sean's point.

The 720 adds *nothing* whatsoever for a PC gamer. If we have a 720 for a reason, ok, cool. But if a selling point of the system is, hey guys, "Play PC games on multiple platforms!" PC gamers aren't going to give a fuck. They play on the PC - if they don't want a 720 already, there's no sudden reason to buy the 720 because they can play their games there.

The 720 needs selling pointsall on it's ownand they don't have them. Unless you have a reason to get the 720 in the first place, there's no reason to buy one so you can do somethingyou are already doing, without having to spend extra money.

IFit's true, it's not a bad idea. But a reason to buy one? No. Convenient if it has it and you were already going to get a 720? Sure.

It's like they're trying to employ the same thing Sony did with their Vita and PS3 capabilities - certain games would let you run PS3 games on the vita and vice versa. Being able to play 720 games on the tablet? Ok, has potential, but computer games on the 720? I can already do that. It's called, choosing the freakin PC version of a game over the 360 version.

The only thing that intrigues me is being able to sync all of my damn achieves from PC games + my gamertag. I would do terrible things for that.

They aren't selling to die hard PC gamers. Die hard PC gamers are dead.

They are selling the added benefit to the console gamers. Every console gamer has a PC or laptop that can at least play a decent game. If they can also play on their laptop while their girlfriend is watching the Bachelor they are going to jizz in their pants when all their progress and achievements are transferred over.

That is completely false. PC's market share of games has been rising with the current consoles being so ancient, it is far from dead. They're also going to have to convince old customers and new ones alike to buy a brand new, $500 console over their X360 and/or PS3 and/or PC and/or a PS4.

This is all irrelevant anyways, this whole "transferring of progress, etc" between PC and X720 games isn't going to happen and has never been something that's been brought up. This is some idiotic assumption you came up with based off a completely unreliable source who was making a comment about small, app store games and has absolutely nothing to do with the core gaming market.

Just let it go, you're making up shit based off some retardedly unverifiable internet incognito neogaffer. Even if true, the public at large is not going to give a fuck if you can carry achievement progress over between your X720 and PC for Mahjong, Solitaire, or Indie Game Platformer 005555798.

Oh, and achievements for Windows 8 App store titles only apply to Microsoft Certified games. You can't just throw any game up on the store and have it be linked to your MS account. I'm guessing you didn't know that and that makes this whole argument even more hilarious.

You invalidated your own statement.

PC gaming is only rising because there is no next gen console. They are bringing out a next gen console as part of this. You will see another decline in PC gaming.

Making shit up? Yes and no. I am postulating that if MS does a combined app store with Windows 8 and it's truly cross platform it will be a game changer.

I know about the achievements. I was using Windows 8 before you.... I am not the Windows 8 hater like you. This could easily be a test bed for when they go live with all games going through a certification process made to verify content rating etc.

They are primed for a move like this and it would change the game. The question is not whether or not this would be a game changer, the question is whether or not MS can deliver it.

True enough if next gen consoles visuals can match most PC games on high setting id be playing more on console again. A good portion of my older 35+ friends do not game on pc. They go home and grab beers and jump on XBL.

You're being overly optimistic and it's only a "game changer" under extreme and unlikely circumstances. There's a ton going against Microsoft at this point between people's unwillingness to adopt Windows 8, Tablets and smartphones eroding the PC market size, Apple TV, and even Smart TVs making a lot of Microsoft's Xbox brand selling points irrelevant. Not to mention Microsoft charging a subscription for people to use services they can get for free in a plethora of other places.

Under all the right perfect circumstances with the stars aligned, yeah it could be a big thing for them, but you're just going off completely theoretical ideas from unverifiable source with no credibility that didn't mention ANY of what you're talking about. All they said was the X720 could have access to the MS App store, that doesn't mean regular games are going to be on there and available for the type of situation you're describing.

I'm sick as fuck of you making these wild assumptions that you've taken way off course from the source of some retarded rumor from an anonymous bullshit log. You're thread shitting at this point.

Is your core argument that PC gamers don't own consoles? Cause I call bullshit on that. Is your core argument that PC gamers' decision to buy a console wouldn't be influenced by the knowledge they could play PC games on it? I don't think that's a very strong argument.

No my core argument is that this is a complete bullshit fantasy scenario completely fabricated and derailed from a supposed leak post from an anon neogaffer.

My other argument is that you can't sell a console soley on that pipe dream of a feature even if it were true without other value backing it up.

The fuck it is. If that was your core argument you wouldn't spend pages arguing the pros/cons of said fantasy scenario.

You are right that it's BS though.

This whole thing wildly spun off from this:http://www.vgleaks.com/rumor-durango...-pastebin-doc/

OS/Services: I wish I knew more about this, but I honestly don't. I have no clue what sort of new ideas MS are going to bring to the table this gen, but I'm certainly expecting them to amaze.
The only thing that I do know for definite is that Durango will be running Windows 8. It will essentially be the full version of the OS, minus the desktop side of things. This means it'll be running the new WinRT framework, which as a side effect also means that contrary to popular belief MS will be the most indie friendly of all the big 3 next gen.
This is because any app/game that is created for the Windows app store will (after adding controller support of course) be playable on Durango.
In other words, any random person worldwide can pay Microsoft a $60 license fee (for the Windows Store) and submit their app/game to the store where millions of people can then download/buy it. No expensive development kits needed.
Expect to hear much more on WinRT - Durango at Build2013.
It is ridiculous how far that paragraph got blew up into this complete fantasy scenario and how much we've gone back and forth on it.

I called extreme bullshit on it because if this were even remotely true then the entire indie community wouldn't be singing the praises of Sony while damning Microsoft and Microsoft would be actively courting Indie devs to make games like Sony is doing instead of how they've been treating them.

Yeah, that's called your windows ID being connected to every device.

The "most indie friendly of all 3" line is a total load of crock regardless. It just doesn't make sense given the circumstances. Microsoft fucking everyone up the ass until the last minute then suddenly going "hey guys, we're ready to show this to you now, come back and make shit for us, we promise we won't rape you anymore!" just doesn't seem very likely. It doesn't make sense to hide this until the last minute all the while treating your potential developers like shit and not having them work on any games for you until the big reveal of it. It doesn't add up.

If Microsoft had something this easy planned for Indie developers they would be aware of it and have been working with them to make games and not be going "fuck Microsoft" this entire time.

If they actually have this in the works for the X720 and they've been keeping the lid on it from developers all the while treating them like shit then they have some horrible fucking management that needs to be fired yesterday.

i just hope all this 720 shit makes game devs porting more new AAA games to the PC. i'm pretty pissed that there is no announcement yet of GTA5 on the PC, I am definitely not buying it for the 360 or ps3. c'mon rockstar, port over red dead redemption and GTA5 already, I don't understand why RDR isnt playable yet under steam.

some of you are like console jihadists, until they announce the specs and launch lineup who gives a fuck really

Both the X720 and PS4 are using X86 hardware setups so there should be far less "console exclusive" games where PC gamers don't get a version. RDR and GTA5's lack of a PC version is completely baffling to me. I really hope with how far back GTA5's been pushed that there's also a X720/PS4/PC version in the works for it

The only exclusive games you'll likely see anymore will be from Japanese nitch game developers that only work on Sony or Nintendo consoles and also First Party games. A PS4 will probably be a very good console to have in addition to a PC with how many exclusive games it'll have between Japanese devs and Sony's huge first party studio stable.

About 33 days left until we get some more concrete info, I think. Supposedly MS is doing their announcement around May 21st.

I could absolutely see the tie in between XBOX 720 and Windows 8, just from the perspective of also selling more copies of Windows 8. Me and most of my friends game on PC and consoles, and this would get ALL of us to upgrade to Windows 8 once we bought a 720. Win 8 is floundering from an upgrade perspective, no one is buying it unless its pre-installed on a new computer. This would be a huge boost to getting all the old Windows 7 gamers to upgrade to 8. Even more genious would be if they had a bundle available at launch that had the 720 + win 8 upgrade software together, or had the Win 8 software built into the 720 to where once it was on your home network you could use it to upgrade your computer.
