As long as they both have enough power to output at 1080p60 who is giving any fucks?
Except neither of them have enough power to outputanything you could throw at themat 1080p @ 60 fps. You could easily bring both the known system specs to their knees if you wanted to and with the supposed differences between the two the PS4 could look and/or run significantly better if you went far enough with fidelity.

You don't think 60 fps will be manageable? I thought they quoted the Killzone demo being 60?

I'm just going to say this as someone who has supported Sony since the Playstation 1 all the way up to the current PS3 and it's handheld models as well as someone who also was, for the first time, considering the transfer over to the new Xbox as my console of choice.

That one feature alone, having to connect online every day regardless of SP/MP usage, is a dealbreaker. I travel a lot, also live between multiple cities at a time and sometimes I'm way out in the sticks with minimal access which is the ideal spot for me to play my console games and let me have my internet gaming done on a PC or with a proper connection on a console elsewhere. It's the one saving grace of being out there and still having some entertainment. Cannot hang with that shit and on top of that, requiring Kinect? Stupid as fuck. I get it, we're evolving and everyone should be connected all the time to everything because it's fucking awesome and yeah blah blah blah, it'd be fucking great, but honestly it's unrealistic in my life style as much as I *agree* with it and would fucking love it, it simply will not happen. I get that the industry does not revolve around me, but they've also effectively given me no other option here except to go fuck myself. C'est la vie.

60fps/30fps is a design choice, not a hardware limitation. Most gamers don't care about 60fps, which is why most games target 30fps. I imagine Call of Duty/some action games/driving sims will be 60fps next gen but little else will, just like this gen.

It will, if you design for it. This shit isn't going to run anything and everything under the sun at a maxed out setting though. It's notthatpowerful. It's still not going to compare to what a high end PC can put out.

Nod, I can relate to that since I max out at 35ish where I stop noticing personally - was pretty sure the capability was there (although likely with some handicapping as Sean mentioned)

We're not looking for what high end PC's output Sean, you've have the debate multiple times yourself. We don't need ultra settings at computer resolutions of 2560x1440 or higher, we only need 1080p.

You might see some higher graphical fidelity in first party Sony IP's, but the cross platform games are going to look and perform almost identically as they do when we compare PS3/360.

I find it funny people declaring something already the "Best" before its even released, let alone everything dissected and discovered.

Completely expected this reveal to be a train wreck, and boy, did they deliver in spades. I knew they were going to double-down on the retardation that is Kinect, and I thought they might implement installation fees for used games, but I didn't know they would model the unit after a 1980's Betamax. Who the hell signed off on that glossy/matte/louvred contraption?? They had virtually nothing to talk about during the presentation, and spent most of the time hyping this thing up as a glorified TV remote that lets you Skype. Seriously, are they touting this as nex-gen and trying to wow us with fucking Skype? Anyways it was good for a laugh and I always enjoy watching Microsoft fall on its face. THE FISHES MOVE AWAY FROM YOU!

If, yeah I know it's just an if right now, the reports are right they are most certainly not going to look and perform almost identically. That's some fucking asinine shit dude, there's a significant enough difference in the specs that goes well beyond what the X360/PS3 are to each other. This is especially true with how similar the base hardware is.

Well, PS4 gamescanlook better - or the devs will just program for the lower spec and call it a day.

Many Xbox 1 games looked better than PS2, but not all of them.

Who is that fat guy with the annoying voice, and why should I care what he has to say?

I'd be fine with that, as long as there's no fee to install the used game.
That's a dumb idea unless there's a bigger plan, than that, what if your friend borrows your game? or someone steals one? what's the protection? some giant database of serial keys?

When devs are making an identical game on multiple platforms, they conform to the lowest common denominator. You know this.

You ask that like current games have any protection schemes whatsoever. What if someone steals a game now? What's the protection?

How many times a year are you in the sticks where you can't get a connection and need to play Xbox?

Go get some fresh air

And this is why Borderlands 2 for example didn't have additional settings that could be turned on for the PC version...

For any game that's PC as well where there's various video options it's very easy to say "Hey, we'll give shadows to the PS4 since its got the oomph, everything as options on PC and barebones for X-1".

"The bits that are on that disc, you can give it to your friend and they can install it on an Xbox One," he said. "They would then have to purchase the right to play that game through Xbox Live."

"They would be paying the same price we paid, or less?" we asked.

"Let's assume it's a new game, so the answer is yes, it will be the same price," Harrison said.

And that does not mean that they will run and look the same. That means the level/game design is based around the weakest one, not how well it runs or looks on a given system. Jesus Christ, that's totally dropping the ball on understanding what conforming to he lowest common denominator means for design man. PS3/X360 have FPS and graphical differences all over the place that go both ways on both sides since each is better at different shit. Let's take something recent, like Mass Effect 3, where the X360 version runs mostly at a constant 30 FPS while the PS3 version regularly runs at 20. There's also a lot of AA differences.
