Netflix
Hulu
Amazon Prime (Wife buys enough that this is worth is in shipping, Video is gravy)
Crunchyroll (Wife has a serious Anime habit...)

Desired device : Will do gaming plus everything listed above except the DTV/DVR portion...
Heroic mode : Would also replace the DTV DVR box....

Can either do all of desired? Is there any hope for one unified box any time soon that could also handle up on DVR duties?

You need a small PC to manage downloads with a good RAD array and that could be a Steam box also. Or a good gaming PC and a NAS. Really your only option for "one" device you interact with.

xbone or ps4 will both replace the roku, wii, and 360 just fine but its overkill. unless you wanna play new games. Nothing will replace the DTV/DVR combo since there isn't a universal IPTV/cablecard system in USA, so you need the cable/sat box to decode and usually the DVR is tightly tied to that. I wouldn't bother with a mediaPC/PVR, shit is too frustrating for wives and kids over DVR. Any system will let you play torrented movies/shows you download over Plexus or native, only when you start getting into 1080p and 3D movies does bandwidth over wifi become an issue.

honestly just stick with what you got for now, any new TV you buy will have built in apps for netflix/amazon/hulu, buy one of the new consoles if a game appears you really want.

This will be the first time the two consoles come out so close to each other, at least hopefully...

The PS2 came out over a year before the original xbox... the xbox and gamecube came out within days of each other. The 360 came out almost a year before the PS3, which came out within days of the Wii.

If the PS4 can somehow come out a month earlier than the Xbone, it will be the final nail in the coffin. Here's hoping!

I'm hoping that's why they haven't put out a release date yet, so that they can announce it too close to release for Microsoft to adjust

I keep reading Sony is saying the Holidays, not the fall. I'm hoping for an October release, just stick it to Xbone.

Honestly, they should just release the PS4 on the exact same day as the Xbone. What's Microsoft going to do about it, release a product that could actually compete with the PS4?

How do you know if you got a launch version. I ordered pretty much as soon as the page was active. When I look at my order it just says PlayStation 4. Doesn't mention launch our standard.

I also pre-ordered before they added different versions of the PS4, and I was able to tell I had the "Launch" version by clicking on it and it said at the top "You ordered this on such and such date."

Pretty sure the launch date they choose will have more to do with the games they can launch with rather than screwing Microsoft over. If they can do both, their victory will be complete lol.

I preordered mine at Gamestop and they guaranteed it at launch day. Also I thought it was funny they had the PS4 highlights on repeat on their TVs, not a word about Xbone. Makes sense.

Why would they want to push the system that is going to gut their entire used model that drives a massive amount of their business?
