Oddworld is considered an indie game now?
They independently develop and publish/sell their game. So...yes.

The fact that Xbox wouldn't even let a somewhat well-known franchise be sold without a "publisher" just makes the point even more salient.

Oddworld is considered an indie game now?
Developer by an independent studio without a publisher now - so the answer to that would be yes, they're indie.

Just like how PopCap would not be under the "XBoxOne" criteria since they publish with EA.

The first two Oddworld games had GT Interactive publishing them which was a big deal publisher at the time.

The third game was published by Microsoft and THQ.

The fourth was EA.

They used to be a BIG deal. They used to have huge weight behind them when it came to publishing.

He then threw a shitfit and closed down his company because he didn't like the way publishers ran the business.

This new game is their first self published game. Thus the confusion on when Oddworld became an indie developer and thus my question. It is new. I don't keep up with every single developer on the market. My bad.

What do you guys think about an Apple made console. I mean a full fledged console and not just a box to play iOS games.
Funny you would mention that. Gametrailer interviewed Jason Rubin, co-founder of Naughty Dog and president of THQ in it's final year, about what he thought of Sony and Microsoft. He even mention that Microsoft and Sony might not be fighting with each other but against Apple/Google in the next coming years.

It's a really good interview if you haven't seen it. Starts at 3:30 if you're interested.

Apple gonna have to come up with some real quality control standards for the shit that hits their App store before they think about making a real console.

Google can fuck right off, having a Google console would be like having ten kinects in every room of your house and a spy satellite in the sky watching you night and day.

Wow I will never watch another Angry Joe video for the rest of my life. That was the most annoying fucking interview I've ever watched in my life. I want to buy an Xboner, put it right up into his ass, and kick it into the top of his skull. Kill me.

Microsoft's Xbox boss Don Mattrick has spoken out to defend the Xbox One's $500 price point, saying the company is in fact over-delivering value with the next-generation system.

"It's a lower number than some of the analysts had forecasted," Mattrick said on Bloomberg TV. "We're over-delivering value against other choices I think consumers can get. Any modern product these days you look at it [and] $499 isn't a ridiculous price point. We're delivering thousands of dollars of value to people, so I think they're going to love it when they use it."

Competitor Sony will offer its PlayStation 4 at $400 this holiday season, but Mattrick believes consumers will choose Xbox One for its suite of exclusive services and applications like an improved Xbox Live, as well as Skype, Twitch TV, SmartGlass, and Kinect.

"We're really making the living room your center of fun for your family," Mattrick said.
Oh wow.

Well, I will say after seeing some clarifications on the "Family Plan" I'm actually went from a interest level (from 1-10) of 1 up to a 2 now. That article of his defending the price point doesn't make it sound like the $300-350 price tag I'd need to bump me up into buying it (as well as some exclusives that are actually interesting + friends that also pick up the system that we can family plan together probably price tag would be +2-3 and +2 for each of the others - and of course price tag helps friends get involved...) however.

Shame, AngryJoe actually got me from blinding hate into just "mostly hate" and it seems like they're not going to be making an effort to get me above that 2.

Apple isn't going to release a console. Let me explain why.

For the longest time, I thought Apple would add an app store to the AppleTV and they'd put games on it, but the fact that they haven't yet makes me think it's not going to happen.

Apple's goal is to center your gaming around your iPhone and your iPad. If you want to play games on your TV, you'll have to connect it using an HDMI cable, or use Airplay with the AppleTV. Apple doesn't want to compete with consoles - they want to make them obsolete.

At WWDC, they announced a controller API for the iPhone and the iPad -http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2013/0...-blurry-photo/- and a number of peripheral manufacturers have already announced that they're working on controllers, so the whole "lack of buttons" problem will go away soon, and we should get some better quality games in the future.

At the moment, I spend as much time gaming on my iPad as I do on my PC or my consoles. There's so many quality games available to play on the ios app store. Going forwards, I can see ios gaming continuing to go from strength to strength, and I truly believe it could be a threat to the console/pc market in a few years time.

Eh i have the current gen ipad, ive downloaded games on it, but i am pretty sure the only thing ive ever played on it was bejeweled. I cant fathom a reason to game on it unless im on an airplane or long drive and not the driver. I guess i could see use for it, but owning laptops and PCs id never have reason to actually game on it.

iOS games are something you do to kill time, quality console games are something you make time for. They both have their place.

Anecdotal evidence: I went to a FNAC yesterday (a big chain of a cultural products department stores - dvds/blurays, books, video games, electronics, CDs) and they had a couple monitors showing video clips of next gen games (The Division and new Batman when I walked past). The funny thing is that there was a sign between the monitor saying something like "Check these videos of upcoming PS4 games!". No mention of Xbox One anywhere... (NB: They have a 2nd hand game section).

I can't figure out whats going on at amazon. Xbone launch edition is still available for pre-order, and is #1 seller in video games. PS4 combo launch editions are still available for purchase. Is amazon really going to get hundreds of thousands of each of these on launch day? or is Launch/Day One edition no longer mean available on launch day?

neither is reselling that great on eBay, you can find a bunch that sold for $350-400. A few in the $600 range too, but if you dig deeper many of those ended up with winners who are brand new accounts, which is probably a scam/fake. I've found very, very few that sold for over $500 and bought by an eBayer who has at least 20 feedback.

I just placed my pre-order for a PS4 with Watch Dogs. Went through.

Definitely not buying an Xbone. Ever. They have officially lost me. Even if I have to lose out on Quantum Dreams (I am not falling for that again... I got burned by not having Alan wake for what... a year and a half later? And that was supposed to be a launch title too) and Respawns new game.

Based on press and everything else, there is no way in hell they are seeing decent preorders for the Xbone. Hell just look at this small poll alone.

Production facilities in Asia are pretty decent at putting out product now. The Ipads are only limited in stock for the first week or two because Apple are greedy pricks that drive up demand through artificially limiting supply.

I see no reason why Amazon won't be able to fill most preorders taken up to this point by the end of the year at the latest.

I'm sure Amazon has received some guarantees from Microsoft and Sony as to how many units they will have available on launch day. They wouldn't want the bad PR of advertising a launch day edition and not delivering. I do, however, suspect that they get a larger allotment than other stores. Especially for the Xbone: people who are comfortable with always-on internet are, presumably, also comfortable ordering online. And why wouldn't you get it from Amazon where you make no deposit and get it conveniently delivered to your home, as opposed to Best Buy charging you $100 upfront and you have to pick it up along with the masses who hope to get one without a preorder?

As for the bestseller page: I imagine this uses number of sales per day and discounts older sales. So given that the Xbone launch edition can still be ordered, it obviously has more recent activity compared to the PS4.

The cynical theory would be that they want to stay at the top of the best seller list so they told Amazon they can provide 2 billion launch day xbones.

Maybe they are just shorting everyone else because Amazon is so huge. Or Sony is being overly conservative.

So looking at the non PC console exclusives - when is the price of the Nvidia 770/780 projected to level off? Hold off until Christmas?

To be fair, PS4 + XIM Edge (when it supports it) is looking attractive, if only for having ten times more people to play with.
