This is such a case of pandering and politics on a something that was really trivial and a non-issue from the get-go. The absolute ridiculous, over-the-top, response has everything to do with the success of the Patriots and and nothing to do with under-inflated balls that had zero game impact. No one cares about cheating when your team sucks. The Patriots are a lightning rod for hate because they dominate.

Jesus what a stupid site.

Or rather, what a pathetic attempt to conflate every minor offense with major ones. Yeah, a "cheap" shot is the same as systemic rulebreaking in an organization from top to bottom.

So if the Brady suspension stands at 4 games the Patriots are going to save $1.8 million in salary meaning they will come out $800k ahead after they pay their fine.

Your right, we wouldn't want to conflate a minor offense with a major one. A slightly deflated ball being a major offense and a ball with stickum and a refusal to hand over evidence being a minor one.

"As a result of the failure of club staff to follow the directive of a game official to immediately surrender the towels when directed to do so, and to attempt to conceal the towels, the Chargers have been fined $20,000." - See more at:Chargers fined $20,000 after 'Stickum' towel inquiry - tribunedigital-chicagotribune
I don't care which team you are a fan of or how much you hate the Patriots, you can't justify the above in light of how this is being handled.

As I said earlier, it is not the crime but the cover-up that gets you busted. If he is allowed to attend training camp and pre-season meetings, four games will not be that severe. I am sure the Cheatriots will be just fine exiting his suspension at 2-2. I really think that Bellicheat and Kraft were at least aware of what was going on, given what control freaks both are, so I am guessing the draft choice penalty is the league basically saying "we can't prove it, but fuck you anyhow for being a repeat offender" to the situation. And lets be clear here, the Pats ARE repeat offenders, both when it comes to violating the rules and covering it up after the fact. The substitution rules bending this year is just the latest example of it. But for my money, they were not the dirtiest team in the playoffs last year, or the super bowl......

In my gut, I think Bellicheck is tossing Brady under the bus and greasing the wheels for cutting him in favor of the new younger guy. Bill has balls of steel when it comes to dumping vets, but I think even he has to be careful about how he cuts bait with Brady. This situation is a tailor made excuse to do it, really. Brady has been tapering off of late. He can still torch the average to above average teams, but the younger hungrier teams have been posing issues to the Pats, which may be why he was more blatant about skirting the ball rules recently. This situation may tarnish his reputation enough to make it feasible, especially if the new guy wins all four games and Brady is rusty when he comes back. Pats fans will have to come to grips with this (like my team fans had to with Favre) and the playing field will level a bit more when their next QB does not have a supermodel wife who makes more than him allowing him to free up more cap space for the team. The next HOF QB they get they will have to pay the going rate for.

The real losers in this are the two blue collar guys who carried out orders. At the end of the day, Kraft can kick the bucket with countless trophies on his wall for SB* and Division wins in what has been until recently the softest division in football. Tom can go back to banging his supermodel wife who makes shitloads more money than he does and retire with as many rings as any QB in league history has earned. Bill can expect a place on the HOF with all of his wins* and go on being a complete introverted dick to the league and media. But those two grunt worker guys who earn a fraction of that the guys who likely gave them their marching orders are likely never to work in the league again. And they are the ones who cooperated with the investigation, if only a little.

Also, for the record, while Seattle's SB win does not deserve an asterisk, all the PED violations that got largely swept under the rug definitely taint that season leading up to it. And I think the two Stealer wins in the Rapelesburger era definitely were questionable, though those were bad officiating and not cheating. I think every other team on that graphic has untainted SB wins.

The 1st round draft pick is what is bugging me. You clear the coach and team in the report, but still slam em like that?
This is the same NFL that docked the Cowboys $10 million and Redskins $36 million in cap spacefor contracts that it had approved.

Why? Because it "violated thespiritof the cap." There wasn't even a rule broken, and it was sanctioned by the league at the time.

Welcome to NFL justice.

Everyone continues to just focus on the crime itself and none of the circumstances around the whole thing as reasons why they went heavy like they did. First off, you have the evidence they offered in the report that shows that Brady knew what was going on (at least was aware of what was going on even if he didn't directly give an order to deflate anything). So they got him on lying right there. The Patriots told the NFL they would fully cooperate with the investigation and then proceeded to put up roadblocks for the investigation. Now add in the fact that the organization isn't a first time offender either and that explains the draft picks and fine. The NFL knows Brady is going to appeal and probably get it knocked down to 2 which why they shot at 4.

Patriot fans defend Brady saying he did nothing wrong but then in the same breath minimize the 'crime' anyway saying deflated balls give no advantage. Which is it?

I'm glad he's going to be playing at least 5 Divisional games. Dolphins, Bills, and Jets all went crazy on their D-lines this year. If we can't beat them at full strength then we aren't going to get far in the playoffs anyway.

I think the punishment is fair because it sets the precedent to prevent others from refusing to cooperate in the future. The question that comes up is not "Is Tom hiding texts about deflated footballs?" but "What other incriminating football related stuff is he hiding in his texts that he doesn't want the league to see?"

So in Tom's appeal he's saying the NFL is conspiring with the Colts to frame them and the whole system is corrupt. This might be the first appeal that leads to a harsher penalty

CBSN on Twitter:

""The discipline is ridiculous and has no legitimate basis. In my opinion, this outcome was pre-determined; there was no fairness in the Wells investigation whatsoever. There is no evidence that Tom directed footballs be set at pressures below the allowable limits. In fact, the evidence shows Tom clearly emphasized that footballs be set at pressures within the rules. Tom also cooperated with the investigation and answered every question presented to him. The Wells Report presents significant evidence, however, that the NFL lacks standards or protocols with respect to its handling of footballs prior to games; this is not the fault of Tom or the Patriots. The report also presents significant evidence the NFL participated with the Colts in some type of pre-AFC Championship Game planning regarding the footballs. This fact may raise serious questions about the integrity of the games we view on Sundays. We will appeal, and if the hearing officer is completely independent and neutral, I am very confident the Wells Report will be exposed as an incredibly frail exercise in fact-finding and logic. The NFL has a well-documented history of making poor disciplinary decisions that often are overturned when truly independent and neutral judges or arbitrators preside, and a former federal judge has found the commissioner has abused his discretion in the past, so this outcome does not surprise me. Sadly, today's decision diminishes the NFL as it tells its fans, players and coaches that the games on the field don't count as much as the games played on Park Avenue."

He must be reading the same Boston papers as Azeth. I do like our email we sent BEFORE the fucking AFC game detailing that they were under inflating balls and we would like them to check it. Pretty hilarious.

So basically, the same song and double down dance Bellicheat used when he got nailed for spygate? Yeah, Colts asking the NFL in advance to check the balls and then getting busted is not collusion. Its called "We know you have been pulling this shit all year, so now we are going to be ready to catch you in the act.". Jesus, I had some respect for Brady as a person prior to this, but now I think he is just as corrupt as the rest of that organization. If he had just owned up to it and not tried to cockblock the investigation, this would already be yesterdays news. He is actually making the situation worse for himself. No way his suspension gets reduced and he might even get a fine for bad mouthing the league tacked on at this point. Dude just needs to lay low and be happy that he got away with ring number four.
