I went to Vegas near when I turned 21 so about 9 years ago and these cheap buffets were non-existant even then. I don't know if they existed in the 80s/90s or if it is just a pop culture thing to say they exist.
They existed like 4 years ago, just had to go about 5-6 blocks off the strip - if they were ever part of the strip I'd never seen it - but they definitely are there off the strip unless things have changed a ton recently.

If I walked about 2 blocks off the strip I felt there was an exponential rise in my getting stabbed by a meth head

When I worked at the supermarket, people would steal cart-fulls of meat/seafood and sell it across the street to the buffet.

Only McCheese would love a seafood buffet for the hush puppies.
Seriously. I like a good hush puppy but bro regular ass seafood restaurants will give you unlimited hush puppies for free with your meal. If I'm paying $40 for a seafood buffet I'm going to eat at least 10 crabs and 6 different kinds of shellfish. That's like going to a chinese buffet and filling up on fortune cookies.

My town is so shitty that our only "real" restaurant is a goddamn Chilis. It's a real small town though.
This reminds me, I had some onion rings from Chilis the other day. They were fucking delicious, dunno if they changed the batter or what but they were fire.

BLT was good too, but come on it's a BLT.

Was just there the other night, and had their buffalo boneless wings. Pretty good. Not enough buffalo sauce though IMO. Then had their spicy shrimp tacos, and those were pretty good as well.

My issue with the sandwiches, as you mention, is they are good, but I feel stupid paying $10+ for a basic BLT or turkey sandwich. Their sandwiches are over priced.

One thing I've noticed as a Onion Ring aficionado is the best onion rings tend to come from places that cook everything in the same oil - not sure if it makes the oil dirtier or just the onion rings pick up extra flavor from the other items in the fryer, but usually the best onion rings otherwise have terrible fried stuff. It's like Onion Rings are the opposite of other fried foods where you don't want anything else polluting their oil.

I don't know how it translates to deep frying but I sure as shit want other foods "polluting" the oil (seasoning) of my cast iron pan when I cook. Makes everything that much more delicious. Especially if the last thing I cooked in it was bacon. The only thing I can picture being vehement about separating is fish.

Applebees has new onion rings too. Mine were good when I ate my giant fucking 'all the bacon in the world' burger.

I've always thought Chilis was pretty good for a chain.

Chilis is the only restaurant in that type of chain (friday's, applebees, 99, etc) that I'll gladly eat at.

Yea, I was just talking about deep frying - usually you want clean oil as a rule of thumb for deep fry. But yea, cast iron (although I barely use mine) you do want that slight residue.

My wife has been making us buffalo chicken salads for dinner lately and they're fucking good. Our grocery store has pre-made already cooked chicken breast nuggets that we just heat in the oven, put some buffalo sauce on and chop it up in a salad. Pretty good meal and really cheap too. For the two of us combined probably $7-8 for the ingredients. Half of that being the chicken.

Love me some nuggets on a salad. If you like blue cheese you should try using a bbq sauce and blue cheese dressing instead of the hot sauce every once in a while. Bliss on a bed of lettuce.

There's a Brazilian steakhouse called Chima in Ft Lauderdale(I think there are other locations as well). They are awesome. You leave with a terrible case of meat-sweats, but it's worth it.
As a PSA to all the tubbies here Texas de Brazil is a chain all you can eat Brazilian steakhouse that's about $45 a head. If you register with their online thing they give you a free dinner on your birthday. I just put a random birthday with a couple email addresses and eat there on the cheap.
