I went to check up on it. and was a bit disappointed to see every review talking about lovecraftian old ones.. is this a case of millennial reviewers being retarded with no scope of reference? or was it actually old god related? The Movie to me, felt 100% in line with scandinavia folk lore. Literally Jotunn, draugr, trolls.... Even the black metal "satanists" of the book fit right in line with heavy metal, and folklore. I mean, ffs Metalocaplyse have an episode...

I haven't been able to find it myself, but I've heard the Old One connection allegedly comes from the author himself, being influenced by Shub-Niggurath, from its name "The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young", along with Pan and also the actual norse myths. Its all a big mash up.

Yes. Kept wondering about that sleeping on the cliff thing and if they take dumps off the side or do they have a little potty inside the cliff tent.

I'm currently watching the Dirty Money documentary. Basic premise is about corporate greed with each episode on a specific company. So far watched two episodes and it's pretty good (1st was on the VW emissions case, 2nd on a payday loan scam).

That payday loan scam episode is great. Those people actually think they did nothing wrong.

I know, towards the end of it they tried to make you feel a little sorry for the guy (like putting his daughter up there, saying he has nothing now) and I'm like dude, you still live in basically a mansion. Best part is they ask him straight up 'are you a moral person' and his reply is 'I'm a businessman'.

Pretty good series, first episode was kinda meh but second one is definitely a profile in a psychopaths. The sheer disconnect of those people is baffling.

Finally watched the ritual too, really great. My wife complained they changed too much from the book, but to me having not read it I thought it was great .

Your recommendation got me to watch it tonight and it is indeed great. You get a really good look at a couple hyper successful sociopaths and how they warp the people around them.

I had always thought that payday loans were just loans at bonkers interest. I had no idea that one of the largest companies was pulling this flim flam where they made it look like you were making payments when in fact they were just charging you fees. After four pay periods and four sets of fees they spring it on you with a big withdraw and the information that your principle hasn't gone done at all despite all the money you've paid. Oh, and we set up in an Indian reservation so fuck you.

let me try running down a few, in my netflix history with thumbs up. (Sadly, no more star ratings to remember which were 5 stars vs, just ok or better.)
Viewer beware, you may hate some of these. due to less tolerance for bad horror acting, camp, etc. I have a bigger tolerance for low budgets, and acting, if the concept is good.
also, these are not in order of quality. mostly, timeline of when I watched, as I go down my activity list.

Ghost house. pretty solid. travellers visit Thai village, and are tricked into releasing a ghost from a spirit house.
There are several movies about this... this is the best one. ( maybe 3/4 out of 5 stars. its not amazing.)

Creep 1 and 2. Unsettling. 2 is probably a bit better, because 1 ends with a bit of nonsense. Full on, why would you do that?

Slasher season1 is pretty great.

Honeymoon. probably THE best. 2014. There is a honeymoon on netflix, which is NOT this one.

A dark song. was mentioned. it is solid.

The black room. This is pretty interesting. Super B movie, campy. sex filled. very 80's. night of the demonsish. from 2016.

The devils candy. is ok.

Demonic has a thumbs up... dont remember a damn thing about it.. iirc pretty typical vid crew finds ghost and all die.

Beyond the Gates. Stupid low budget, poorly acted, campy. fun premise. Not a must see, but if you like bad, campy horror movies with a budget of a $1.50.

The dead room. pretty typical, but well made ghost house movie.

Abattoir. very solid. pretty crazy. 4/5 stars.

We are still here. is highly rated. I didnt find it as remarkable.

Starry Eyes was 2014. very solid.

The void. I spoiled myself I think, so didnt appreciate it as much.
