It's a bit more recent than that for "true modern" Everyone has a different start point but around 2012-2013 and then with the political climate of 2015 and MeToo shortly after 2016. Award shows creating requirements for DEI means no company will ever be able to push back on it. There will always have to be some subpar shoehorned in written for modern character to fill a quota. I miss the token quota of the 80's and 90's movies because they cast really good actors, and the writing was suitable. While it was obvious to viewers they casted a token in the 80's and 90's, it wasn't done in a way where people got offended by it. Today it's got more of a social justice edge feeling. I watched Until Dawn piece of shit horror movie and there wasn't a single straight white presenting person in it. The quintessential lead "white guy" had to be swarthy and mixed 20% with something else. Ryan Phillippe wouldn't be able to get a job today.
