I mean I can't quote anything from that movie, but I've seen all of them and enjoyed them all. I can probably quote more lines from gangs of New York having probably seen it the most. I even saw it in the theater back in college. It's such a great movie.

Aside from all of the other reasons we think this will be a piece of shit, let's not forget the whole "they didn't have orchestras back then" bullshit. What are the chances that a Christopher Nolan movie has an amazing fucking soundtrack without an orchestra? I mean, it might be decent and we might not really notice its lack unless we are looking for it, but one thing about Nolan's movies is that they were almost universally recognized for having standout soundtracks that you can't help but notice. Fuck, Inception literally rewrote movie trailer sounds with the "BWOOOOONG" sound.

Can a movie have good music without an orchestra? Absolutely. Can an epic mythological tale with a massive budget, special effects, action set pieces, etc. have "holy shit" level music without an orchestra? I'm skeptical to say the least.
Greek music is actually very interesting and Hans Zimmer is good enough to make that work. Thats not going to be what they go with tho.

I hope the doesn’t bomb, because if it does, it’ll be one more reason not to make historical epics. My interest declines each time it pops up in the news. It did get me to reread Homer at least. I finished the Iliad last week and started the Odyssey this week.

I don’t think there’s a faithfully accurate l historical epic out there, but I still love them. Well, maybe Apocalypto, but an Odyssey with a full Greek cast, period accurate costumes and dialogue in classical Greek, directed by the arch bigot himself is probably too much to ask for.
If it makes money, then they will take that as vindication to make more DEI checklist trash in the future. Ask any decent trekkie if they would rather have no trek vs Kurtzman Trek and they prefer the past trek to remain untainted. Same thing with Star Wars or a lot of other IPs. Sometimes its better to let it die than to validate the reductive Made For Netflix shit.

Give me an anime version of The Odyssey where it turns out the Greek pantheon are actually hyper-advanced alien spacecraft who have effectively enslaved mankind. Odysseus is joined by Jason and the crew of the Argo as they set sail to fight for the freedom of humanity. The part 1 finale is Orion using a bow made by Hephaestus (who is all that remains of the 'gods' who rebelled against Zeus) to fire his soul into orbit to destroy the Athena weapon platform that was protecting the final approach to Olympus.

Would be less disrespectful to the original works than whatever this is shaping up to be.

Christopher Nolan explained that he cast rapper Travis Scott as a bard in his upcoming adaptation of The Odyssey. He views rap as the modern equivalent of ancient oral poetry—a performance art using rhythm and spoken word to preserve history and pass stories down through generations before they were ever written.

The Bard's Role: Scott plays a traveling storyteller in the film, allowing Nolan to nod toward ancient Greek performers who historically sang or recited their epic poems aloud.

The Sonic Landscape: Instead of using a traditional, historically inaccurate orchestra, Nolan is grounding the film's auditory experience with these oral poetry and musical elements.

You're getting rap music.
