I'm not sure why you keep comparing it to the Batman films when they are PG-13 films. The ceiling between the two is extremely different.

Premium format screens can encompass a lot of things and there's quite a lot of them out there now. They will still have total lockdown next week. It has IMAX for 4 weeks straight (no Brand New Day). Yeah, international should be a pretty big driver but that's not unexpected. Nolan is a global IP.

What exactly are the key indicators that make you think there's going to be overly large successive weekend drops?

(In before this drops 55-60% next week and someone comes in here and thinks that's bad for a blockbuster)

I'd love to do an Avatar bet against anyone for second weekend percentage drop, North American total, or whether it hits 1 billion globally. Be forewarned it's definitely going to be Lupita Yobunga.

Because those are the only Nolan movies to top 1 billion. I'll take that bet. North American total will not hit 400 million.

Isn't this fucker like 30 years old? Why the fuck is this guy still playing teenagers?
It's very difficult to use actual teenagers for teenagers parts because they might change a lot over a several months shoot (some movies do it and have this change as a part of the movie, like Nobody Knows). That's why you hire adults to play teenagers and for that the only criteria is how they look. That's why you hire Tom Holland even if he is 30.

L oh fucking L, 400 million in NA would handlily top every single R rated movie except one ever. Really? If that's as low as you're willing to go, you actually do believe it will be a success.

I chose that because you were bragging without putting any parameters except 1 billion. You want to do it right this time?

The casting along IS enough to despise the move regardless of screen time.

This is a social pressure campaign to “BUT DID U SEE IT BRO!!” To push people to spend shekels for the masters to laugh as the feed you poop.

Dark Knight and TDKR did do more domestic opening weekend, without even factoring in inflation.

on track for $800m - 1b global over the next 3 months. VOD date is expected to be 120 days after release, or mid November.

does it make more money b/c it has to be seen in imax?

I mean I guess the gross number might be a higher but I don't know what the margins are on something like that? I haven't gone to the theater let alone seen in IMAX film in years so there's no telling what the hell they cost. That's probably the same damn prices going to a music concert nowadays.

Just like the movie, the sales numbers and positive reviews are probably fake and gay, and I don't use that internet euphemism very often.

Don't worry, you guys still have Supergirl to high-five and ass pat each other about.
We gets tons of movies to high-five and ass pat each other about each year whereas you will be lucky if you get to gloat like this again this decade, which is probably why you're milking it so hard.

He really doesn't even have that. A 750k movie in 2019 would do over a billion today. The Batman movies absolutely destroyed what this movie will do already. I'm pretty sure this won't make a billion. I know it won't make 1.02 billion but the Hag is an ugly Avatar for any extended period if it hits between those markers.

Next week will be a lot more telling without all the presold IMAX tickets in play. I'm wondering if scalpers really had an impact and how many got stuck with tickets they couldn't unload.

People are still assmad about how white the LotR movies were a quarter century later.

It's color blind casting when you cast someone who isn't white.

Does anyone know if the overall $ a movie makes over a box office weekend is still calculated the same after all these years? I mean a ticket now compared to the 90's is like quadruple the price. Having a movie make $100 million in the 90's compared to now wouldn't be the same thing but I don't know how they factor inflation into these things.

It’s just $

There are some places that will do the “LOTR would have made X is today’s money” but the calculations are usually dubious

Yeah, I'm fine with 1 billion as the bet (or 1.02 is fine with me too, which to be clear is 1,020,000,000 -- did you typo that?). If you mean 1.2 billion, again, that's ridiculous, as it would be, by far, the #2 r-rated film globally of all time. The bet I wanted to make is against someone who thinks it will be a failure or underperformer, not the #2 r-rated film of all time.

The continued comparisons with Batman are still super dumb. No one ever thought it would bring in top PG-13 numbers, especially not Nolan or the executives. If they wanted that they would have forced it to be PG-13. That rating makes a monumental difference.

If rockstar made the second most successful grand strategy game of all time that made 3x its budget/marketing, it would not be a failure simply because they also made GTA6. Ratings/genre matters.

See, hate the film all you want, but at least know what you're talking about. Imax presales count for the day of the showing, not in advance. I even already said this. There's more than just the first weekend that had presales, too. It's hard cope to think there's tens of thousands of tickets being held unsold by scalpers

You could say Homer's Odyssey shines through despite the casting. And the things I described earlier are not poop. I know you don't believe they are. Nolan does not have the power to ruin them.
