so i tried to get a decent picture of my studio/workstation whatever. I usually play out of a 65 twin reverb when I do things live, plus a bass amp for some bass tones that I route.

I wish I could link up with people to record them these days.

not sure if im gonna get much else for a while. Probably rack limiter and some nice mics ( probably a 414c, a decent kick mic but theres no rush there)

I try to keep recording as simple as possible and record through the unit itself, and push it to cubase or ableton if things need anything more.

pedals. constantly rerouting them. I need a patch bay some day.

took a sec to remember, here's a really old ass video that has one of the syncopated delay timings i was talking about, only one i have recorded (usually i just record my covers, and usually i use my syncopated delays for instrumental original stuff)

whole tone scale (directly inspired by King Crimson "Fracture" and "FraKctured") with delay set to repeat 3.5 eighth notes after the original note

This is so King Crimson.

I’ve been spending a lot of time working on string bending but I cannot for the life of me add vibrato to a bended string no matter how much I try. I think I know how it works, bend the string to the correct tone, hold it a bit and then add the vibrato. I just can’t hold the target note in the center of the vibrato is the best way I can think to explain it.

Vibrato takes time, I still work on it now and I've been playing 20+ years. It's good that you are working on it though, a lot of people don't.

Try 9s?

I actually think pharmakos would save money buying a kemper

I would need two Kepmers tho, one for each amp, no? :p

Most of those pedals are under $30 tho for real :) (and the $18 Kimise Classic OD into the $22 Azor Silicon Fuzz probably sounds at least 90% as good as that classic 808 into the Muff that IDK posted a pic of above, too) and the ones that aren't cheap have features that an effects modeling thing probably wouldn't do quite the way I want

So glad I moved to a slightly larger city that actually has musicians (Bay City, MI now, population 33k, vs Bad Axe, MI before, pop 3k and declining, county seat too so it's not like anywhere nearby was bigger to make up for it :p). I've been itching to play or record with someone for years now. Hickville where I was stuck for most of the last decade, everyone is too depressed and unsure of themselves to even want to play music lol.

You don't happen to be close by any chance do you? :p

I live near seattle. but honestly there just isnt much of a music scene here anyhow aside from club/electro right now and thats stunted because of the rona. There are some DIY venues, but they are too close to Seattle that I dont want to mess with that area until much after the election.

There are musicians here, however they are much more political than anyone in CA that I performed with ,and I played with young teenage trannies, skinheads and anything else in between in downtown LA. Its kind of wierd and I hope the spell breaks. I am communicating with a few people but it seems to fizzle out. Perhaps the world is just tired right now, its hard to remain inspired to create wierd new things without spewing too direct of an ideological agenda, or talk about trivial bullshit for most people I meet here.

For the most part I can write and record most of what I want myself, but honestly I fall short with vocals and I really would love to just be able to go to DIY shows, or local events so I can just befriend people doing the same thing that I do again, and get to know people in a way where I can assess their skills and collaborate with them.

I guess all you can do right now is just build the chops with what you got. The isolation olympics has really challenged my GAS flare ups.

Right now I am just working on sound creation and trying to put together a 6 song album on my own to put out through distrokid. I might as well get like 3$ back for all this shit I have been buying.

I should probably record more. The big problem is I can't seem to find that one amp simulator that checks all the boxes. I truly believe I'll need to buy an Axe-FX/Kemper. Might look into that this year if I get a bonus

A good friend of mine is a professional. He's very much a purist. The kinda dude that sold his Taylor because it was "too nice". Obviously also a big analog guy with the tube amps and the pedalboard and all that. He ditched all of it for the Kemper. I was really surprised when I found out he went all digital based on the player I know him to be.

I really miss playing with other people too. Back in high school and college I was in many bands and I was playing shows like twice a month. It was awesome. I've had some bands here and there but none were that great and I felt I was in more of a mentor role with all of them. I need to find other quality musicians to put together something that would really interest me.

Had a few friends over last weekend, one of which is a professional musician who I went to college with (was a part of the All American Rejects when they started... felt like Mippo typing that).

Anyway, he brought over a guitar to jam with - Eastman 000 model with all the trimming (Adi top, Rosewood back/sides, beautiful inlays etc). Wow... what a guitar! It's the best 000 guitar I've ever played. I have a Martin 000-28 and was going back and forth between them and was amazed at the Eastman in both build quality, and sound/projection. It tonally sounds like a Martin, warm and rich but has a bit of Taylor sparkle as well. I was blown away. Said he bought it new from LA Guitars for like $1800 delivered. The only thing holding me back is not being able to play the exact guitar I'm buying - which for me, on an acoustic is important. Anyway, great guitar, I reckon I'll buy one soon-ish and sell my Martin.

I haven't done the band thing since I closed down my studio 15ish years ago, maybe longer. The last few years I ran my studio I was wanting to move to something new and was barely there or even playing much at all. I was just burnt out on all of it. When I left Google a couple years ago I got the itch again so been building up a studio for producing again. Haven't gotten the itch for playing with people again, not sure I ever will. I'm slowly getting back in contact with people from the past and establishing some relationships geared at doing some producing again so will see how that goes.

Also, grabbed a GoPro for doing some stuff with that and close to pulling the trigger on drone maybe.

I've considered dropping my whole analog rig for something like a kemper, or even a helix setup and a couple power box 212s . Haven't brought myself to take the plunge though...I feel I might be too set in my ways then fiddle around with modelling and profiling.

I bought a Helix back in May and I love it. I'm firmly back on Team Digital.

I came close to buying an Eastman. Their 335 copy. But I went the Kiesel route. I have pretty small hands and the super thin neck profile of Kiesel really suits me.

I started a band about a month or so ago, we're just doing covers right now to get used to playing with eachother - it's always weird being like "here's some riffs I wrote"... on the first day. This breaks the ice.

Problem I'm finding is the drummer is n ot very good at basic rhythms. Seems like he just plays randomly. The one huge gripe is often he seems to be watching me and slowing/down speeding up if he thinks I'm slowing down - which of course I'm doing listening to him... because you know, drummer..

We covered Them Bones by AIC and he's playing it 4/4 even though it's 7/8. He said it sounds weird when we play it, but he can't wrap his head around 7/8

Not sure how long it will last.

In summation you guys aren't missing anything.

That would be a deal breaker for me. That says a lot about a player's ear and feel if they can't even play a cover right.

Haven't done the band thing in quite a while. Was in a few that were pretty good, but they didn't last for all kinds of reasons. Jammed here and there since then for fun, but nothing serious.

Getting a group of people together who are good at their instruments, not total losers and can somehow stand each other for more than a couple of years is a monumental feat. I have nothing but respect for any band that can keep it together, even if I hate their music.
