I agree with most points around the world itself with lack of soul. It's like an MMORPG theme park horribly thought out with NPC's just standing there with no life or personality. This is something Bethesda has down, with behavioral AI that has NPC's on schedules tied to in game time. Sleeping, Working, Eating, Playing, Pathing, etc. Something like that would have been nice here. They also lack the depth of faction based systems and reward structure. None of the faction shit mattered. All it did was unock an ability to purchase consumables in an area/zone, and they were all the same items anyway. For example I get Faction A to the top, go to the vending machines, I can now purchase all the unlocked items, but if I go to another world/area zone, that faction has them locked down again but who cares - if I want to buy those I can just high tail it back to the faction I already max'd out because they have the exact same shit. There isn't a reason for me to do any of the other faction shit at all unless I want to see a side story play out.

There is a lack of variety for enemies, and obviously was only one boss battle and that was a boring ass typical fight with no substance.

Overall, and in the end, this damn near felt like an early access title with more of the game coming in two years.

Hopefully with the backing of MS, they realize this could be a very good baseline for a new IP, and they expand on this HEAVILY. More open world, more factions, actual reasons to care about those factions with a reward structure and negative impacts on how others in the game world view you, actual NPC behavior patterns, weather, day night cycles, something other than using unreal engine, and about 60,000 more POI's then the 10 per area they had which were all bread crumbed anyway.

But the main deal is now GAAS is now here, and we are going to continue to see more half assed projects because the main goal will be to get the game into people's hands and leverage DLC and on going MTX support to make the actual money. It used to be an Xbox or PS4 was the install base to target. Now, it's going to be using the game to target the market with DLC and MTX systems.

Sad man. ;(

So I didn't agree with the dude in Amber Heights, so I attacked him, and basically took out the whole town. The other dude sounded less fanatical and more business minded. Did I mess anything important up by taking out all of Amber Heights.

Haha.

I did the same thing. No. Not from what I saw.

Cool.

Also, all the problems I had last night are gone. I got a new high damage AR, that started wrecking face. Went back and killed a lot of the mobs that were taking me out before.

If you actually follow the quest line you get the option to support his second in command in a mutiny , kill the zealot d-bag and then make the 2 factions join together.

FML! That sounds way better! Lol

This is the issue with this game. Things like this normally make for a fun 2nd play through. Problem is, the game is so lifeless that a second play through sounds tedious and boring.

18 hours played, and just getting to Byzantium. I already had gamepass at about $1.80/month through the Rockstar Energy promo, so this was a good deal!

Loot system is atrocious. What the FUCK IS SO HARD ABOUT CREATING PROPER ITEMIZATION.

FUCK. No one cares about stupid 20 second canned tuna combat upgrade, or useless gun number 1325, for fucks sake expand the weapon mods, get rid of clutter and create more unique randomized items.

It's truly insane how item systems in RPGs in 2019 are the same if not worse than in 2002.
I haven't played in a few days, and likely won't, because of this.

I just can't stand having to sort through an inventory of useless shit items. I'll never use a buff item that gives me +1 mind skills for a minute. What the fuck is even the point of that?

Worse is that you have a weight limit system and it punishes you harshly for carrying all the crap. So I found myself spending all of my time just managing the inventory instead of killing stuff. So I think I'm just done with it.

Well, latest issue is that game is crashing anytime I go to Pavarti's character screen from the Tab menu. She's also selected as a Companion when I leave the ship, and so it crashes anytime I try and leave my ship to do anything... I've read a re-install will fix things, but just not sure I care enough. My OCD is kicking in big time though, and wanted to get through this and finish the quests, but fuck it.

I finished this. I'll have to agree with a lot of people, it's a good game, but not a great one. The writing was by far the best part. I think they've build a solid foundation, and if they can tweak stuff a bit, a sequel might end up into the great category, but it's not there yet.

Still at the end of the day, I did enjoy it.

I'm glad there's more people with the same general complaints about this game. I'm afraid of turning into cynical old bastard, and I haven't seen much in this game that I like. Don't really hate anything about it, it just interests me about as much as FIFA.

complaints are valid

I think itemization as a whole is in this strange, lackluster place in modern gaming. Think about it, only a handful of games get it "right" nevermind being amazing.

I think that's why a game like Borderlands is successful because its basically item porn. That and the weapons themselves are interesting and random.

Then you have games like Resident Evil, that goes in the other direction as far as clutter, where almost all found items are quest related or ammo/health. It's better, but it is just based on inventory management in the end, which is just a hindrance IMO.

Fallout games have awful itemization as well, it's just crazy that companies arent putting more time and resources into creating the items IN the world rather than just the world itself.

The Witcher 3 is an amazing game, with an amazing world, yet also has shit item system that is just annoying and dumb.

This game is average, great score, solid story elements, but it could have been a GREAT game if they had a completely different item system that added to the "fun" instead of just being an afterthought.

The further I got the more I just wanted it done. You honestly experience everything this game has to offer within the first couple of hours, nothing new or interesting is ever introduced in any way shape manner or form. It's not a bad game, it's a good game, it's just one that ends up stewing in that good for so long that the whole things become mediocre within it's own boundaries. Nothing interesting or exciting ever happens but I can't say it was ever boring, just tedious. Weapons are boring, perks are boring which makes the phobia/determent system worthless especially since the game isn't big enough to get any mileage out of them.

It isn't what I wanted, it wasn't actiony enough to be a Mass Effect clone and was too contained to satisfy my Fallout desires.

Others might like this more than I did, I give it a 6.5/10. The first couple of hours are 8/10 but that luster wears off and nothing ever happens to renew it.

I hope that I can figure out my crashing issues so I can at least finish the game.

I will say that this has given me an itch for other space sci-fi games.

Edit: Confirmed, if I do anything related to Pavarti it bugs out. Deleted the game and re-downloading it now to see if that fixes anything. This only popped up for me after I respecced everybody.

I am surprised that with this being a GamePass game and also from a Microsoft owned company that it does not have cross save support between Xbox and PC.

Not really related, but the saves in this game, and when it auto-saves is dumb AF. Just did a part, and died, and it hadn't saved through all sorts of pretty big dialogue choices. Then I go back through, and I notice it saved a couple different times? Wtf?

Is this some sort of built in auto help, where at first it won't save shit, but the 2nd play through it's like aww shit this fool needs some save help? Dumb.

My crash issues seem to have fixed themselves by playing on another computer. Loaded up the same save on my laptop, and worked just fine.

Haha... whatever bruh!!

For some reason this has really filled a void that I was having since I stopped logging into WoW every day. Mind you I didn't quit WoW, it just stopped being all consuming. Little did I know the space vibe was something I wanted. Destiny 2 you think would fill that same void but just can't get into that game.

This is a good solid 7 out of 10 for me. You can tell that they must have run out of money and time late in the development cycle because the level of detail and originality of the quests and story drop-off markedly towards the end although there is some good branching from the key decision points in the main plot, having played through the game twice. It won't be an all-time great but if they build on this foundation and make the gameplay more dynamic they have what can be the basis of a really good series here. The world-building is a nice sweet spot between a fallout and a firefly feel. The biggest missing element in my mind other than the gameplay is freedom to just explore areas in a manner similar to what a fall out games brought to the table.when people talk about this game being soulless that's really the missing Gap to my mind. And also the perks are so lukewarm that the game played doesn't really change after the first hour which is a major problem. There is nothing to strive for in the game beyond the story and the level of Polish and detail kind of tapers off after about two-thirds of the way through the game. So basically they need a more expensive and open world setup and a more nuanced game system that allows for progression into builds the kind of keep the game fresh for future installments. But the basic foundation is there for something good down the road if they keep things going in the right direction. The question is if the next game in the series we'll have enough backing them to put in that kind of time which is difficult for an independent developer like obsidian in the modern game development environment.
