Went and saw it today with the family.

We liked it better than most of the last few years MCU stuff except for Deadpool & Wolverine (though I recognize it for what it was, a huge nothing story filled with fanservice and jokes, but that's what I wanted from it).

The pacing was good, the 2 hours 6 minutes flew by. There are quite a few action scenes and they're overall pretty good, especially one around the middle of the movie. Quite a few jokes but they mostly land, it's overall not a comedy though, the story has some mature themes around mental health issues / depression, including suicide.

The story moves the MCU a little forward, though it's nothing that cannot be caught up in 2 minutes watching a recap, if you care about the continuity.

There isn't much blood but there is some, nothing gruesome though if you're taking younger kids.

There is one short middle-credits scene and a long post-credits scene. The middle credits is a funny one, the post-credits is story stuff.

Overall, I'd say it's pretty good, not even on the top three or five of the MCU in my opinion but still pretty entertaining and watchable, which is more than can be said about most of the phase 4 stuff at least.

This was pretty damn good. Nice to have a more serious and meaningful tone in an MCU movie.

currently sitting at 88 on RT and 69/100 on MetaCritic.

The * refers to an expansion of the title, people are guessing New Avengers, Dark Avengers, just plain Avengers, etc. I don't know my Marvel lore enough to know who the fuck they really are. I like Dark Avengers as a concept though. The * also fucks up search on FOH, if you just search for Thunderbolts it won't come up lol

They are appearing in Avengers Doomsday along with the Fantastic Four so it feels like if you wanna see that movie in theaters in 2026, you'll wanna see this and F4 although not necessarily in theaters. I didn't see Captain America Black New World in theaters but I'll see Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan chop it up for 2 hours
I saw this today and I really liked it. It was way less super-hero type movie, and way more team work type. Yes, there were "some" super hero things that happened, but the majority of it was very normal. I've never been impressed by Yelena before, but seeing how she interacted with Sentry made me... Well, I could see falling for a chick like that.
I had a very minor history with the character Sentry. I had no idea he had a second form. Much less the things needed to allow his powers to work or not work. This is all new to me. Enjoyable.

They are not the ones saying that (well at least in that picture) Slashfilm is
So no, Technically they are not lying now lol
Also I agree with the statement. One of the best is a stupid tagline. All it has to be is better than a few other movies, which it is. The following movies I think it is better than..

1. Kraven
2. Madame Web
3. Morbius
4. Captain America : Brave New World
5. The Marvels
6. Wakanda Forever
7. Antman and the Wasp
8. Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness
9. Thor Love and Thunder
10. Eternals
11. Shang Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings
12. Captain Marvel
13. Thor The Dark World
14. Iron Man 3
15. Black Panther
16. Black Widow
17. The Incredible Hulk

Just to name a few. There are some that I would rate even with this movie. So yes, it is one of the best. It is not THE best. That is still reserved for Captain America Winter Soldier.

Will Jordan is the author of the Ryan Drake series, a collection of espionage thriller novels centered on Ryan Drake, a CIA operative and former British soldier navigating high-stakes missions, conspiracies, and personal conflicts. The series, published under his real name, includes the following books:

  1. Redemption (2012) – Introduces Ryan Drake, tasked with rescuing a CIA officer in Afghanistan, uncovering a larger conspiracy.
  2. Sacrifice (2013) – Drake faces a mission in Iraq involving a dangerous warlord and internal betrayals.
  3. Betrayal (2014) – A personal mission leads Drake to confront his past and a global threat.
  4. Black List (2015) – Drake is hunted by his own agency after being framed as a traitor.
  5. Deception Game (2016) – Involves a covert operation in Eastern Europe with high political stakes.
  6. Ghost Target (2017) – Drake tracks a lethal assassin while evading capture.
  7. Second Chances (2018) – Focuses on redemption and a mission tied to Drake’s allies.
  8. Shadow Force (2020) – The latest in the series, involving a new team and global threats.
"The Ryan Drake series is praised for its fast-paced, action-packed storytelling, complex character arcs, and Jordan’s ability to craft cinematic thrillers that appeal to fans of authors like Lee Child, Vince Flynn, and Tom Clancy."

Some of you act like my buddy who raves about a show just because it’s not total garbage. Exhibit A: Daredevil Born Again.
I know nothing about YouTube movie reviewers, I do however know plenty of people who love Lee Child/Tom Clancy secret agent geopolitic style books. The Ryan Drake series is generally considered generic schlock with no real substance. Your post is not the glowing endorsement you thought it would be.

Wow, it is amazing that people have different tastes. You do know that you can agree with some things a person says and disagree with others? That you can have opinions of people that are not just "amazing" or "utter trash?"

I like Drinker and I think (remember, we all have our own opinions) that he is usually pretty good about the pulse of why movies are failing or succeeding. He is not, however, the arbiter of my entertainment experiences.

I am going to go see this, and I bet I will enjoy it no matter what he says. I will also probably agree with him on his next movie review because of the reasons stated above. Do I care what you or your unknown friends think of his books? No, because who the fuck are you.

The context is that he understands writing because he writes books. My reply is that his books aren’t considered good writing so that isn’t helping the narrative. I said nothing about his YouTube reviews because I don’t watch YouTube reviews. Unwad your panties and try to follow along the conversation.

Yea this was great. Lewis Pullman is great, JLD is fantastic, and kids got merked.

Go see it, or don't, but its a good time. Its more or less everything people here or in a Drinker comment section have been asking for. No forced diversity, no agenda, the day wasnt saved cause woman punched man, and Bucky is now the leader of the New Avengers.

Or people could let this flop and give Marvel the wrong idea about things. So no I am not sure if Dollar Store Tom Clancy understands writing, or atleast good writing, but the director and writer of Beef sure do and it showed here.

His books aren't considered good writing by your friends. This is second hand information from someone who has no history of good takes. So why should anyone in this thread believe that your friends can tell good writing from bad writing? Again, who the fuck are you?

It really seemed this way from the trailers as well. I was hesitant that they could have been showing the neutral parts and then bait-and-switching us into a girl/diversity power fetish, but even the negative reviews don't mention that at all. Once I saw that I knew that I was going to see it and (most likely) enjoy it. Now I'm excited for it.

The original poster called out Will for "not understanding writing" is just wrong. His Ryan Drake series may not be Tom Clancy-level, but it’s solid, gripping, and well-crafted. He clearly knows how to build a story with good pacing and believable stakes.

And there is no way this cunt understands writing.
Not sure what my point is really, I'm high and posting shit on a Saturday.
