So this series got some BIG NEWS. Two new Tomb Raider games, but not just any:
-Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (A full remaking of the first Tomb Raider)
-Tomb Raider: Catalyst (A new game that follows right after Tomb Raider: Underworld, which was the last mainline release in the original series, meaning they've totally dropped the new series.
What's most noteworthy is that Lara Croft is back to her original outfit/personality, which is amazing after a decade of coat-wearing, mud-covered, miserable Survival Lara. I'm actually shocked to see it at this point.
Got a question about the series if anyone wants to answer it. I'm only familiar with Tomb Raider 1-6, not the Crystal Dynamics games that followed it. IIRC one of them was a remake of the first game, while the other two were new, I think? So if that's the case, Catalyst is Tomb Raider 9, at least as far as full main series console entries go.
TR4 through 6 didn't have numbers originally (they only do now because of their recent remasterings) but they're The Last Revelation (4), Chronicles (5), and The Angel of Darkness (6) which was the only one that was kinda bad (and thus tanked the series for a little while). After that we got the Crystal Dynamics trilogy, then the remake trilogy. Not sure which of the CD trilogy counts as mainline which is the question I'm asking. Is Underworld technically TR7 or TR8?
Also, surprised they aren't doing more remasters before the new one. Given how successful the TR1-3 and 4-6 remasters were, you'd think they'd finish the job and remaster Underworld (and whatever else was part of the main story post-TR6, if anything) before putting out Catalyst, so people like me who only saw up to TR6 can catch up.
