Yeah, its some really long time or what they don't tell you is 400 skill points.

Edit - Must've just missed you earlier, logged in just now and didn't see you. I'll be on a lot this weekend though if you need any help.

I thought this server would be just like I remembered UO, however quite a bit is different. If you read theFAQyou'll notice that shit like Inscription boosts Magery, Lumberjacking boosts melee damage, and worst of all there is no "Instant-Hit" as the era was remembered for.

I was pretty stoked to play, but feel my desire fading. PVP was all about timing the Hally combo or having a badass Parry Dexer with some magery for boom boxes and magic reflect, but I guess not... Also I noticed on the FAQ it says no reds in town however there was a red name PeeKay clearly running through Vesper with nothing stopping him.

I'm not sure what the creators were anticipating PVP wise, but removal of instant hit really makes the mechanics of mage pvp quite boring. Explode Ebolt, Explode Ebolt, Paralyze, Whatever, Heal as needed... From what I recall nearly 90% of my friends left UO when the patch landed in 2000 that removed instant hit, so why on earth would you make a classic server without it?

EDIT
Apparently I misread your post. I must be off base on what era they were intending for this server, but I certainly don't see why a lack of combo's that at least took some degree of coordination would be considered easy when spamming spells is certainly easier than that.
I loved the pre cast days as well, but I still stand by what I said that I feel this time period was a much more challenging dueling era. In pre cast all you had to worry about for variation was whether your opponent used a qstaff, halbred or the odd spear. In this era there were a crap load of different templates that mages were rocking and it made the dueling very intense and exciting. I had a few different mages in this era, if I remember right one was a parry/scribe, anat/heal and a nox/dexer mage. It made for a lot more interesting and in depth combos.

I didn't say I welcomed the change, but I wasn't but hurt over it either.

Yeah. I'm going Medi, Magery, Resist, Anat, Scribe, Healing, and EI.

Not sure how great I'll do, but given the damage bonus of scribe, and the fact that 100 ANAT and EI according to the FAQ is equal to 100 defensive wrestling I should be ok. I guess time will tell! Still miss the old days though.

Just made a guy, name is Brikker; started in Vesper. Looking for some bros!

Started music/provoke even though it would have been smarter to start with magery/something. oh well, not sure how much time I'll end up putting in in the long run so I wanted to start off with fun right away! I'll be on for an hour or two right now if anyone is playing and wants to help a newbie out (havent played in 12 years!).

Magery isn't an issue because you can train it to just about 50 here, but if you want resist you should start it at 50.

Yea and see that is what I mean, the choices were what made it so much fun. You can go with Scribe for the extra damage and you still get the defensive wrestle from EI+Anat/2 = wrestling. Or if you don't like that, drop it out for wrestle to pick up the stun punch. Or drop the heal and have the scribe with the stun punch.. makes for a lot more interesting builds than Hrmm.. should I make my tank mage swords or mace, or never win a duel and be fence. Lol...

I decided to go with what is probably a less common build of 100 Anatomy/Heal/Tactics/Mace/Music/Provoke and 50 Magery/Hiding. The last two are purely for utility with the main focus being provoke barding and finishing shit off with maces when it gets down to one monster. We'll see how it goes! Playing for 30 mins in the brit GY got me to 70 mace/tactics 65 music/55 provoke and 50-55 in everything else.

What I really need are some homies/a guild to go dungeon diving with.

So I installed it, and after the few moments of melancholia and laughing at old craziness, I sort of sighed and I don't know if I can be bothered re-learning it, even though I know it will be fun. It is just so...well, it's still an ugly game, and if I am going to while away hours when I should be working, I want something nice to look at!

Oh hi neighbor, when I saw the name lithose in game I knew it looked familiar, but I thought it was just from the uof forums, I forgot I saw it on these forums too.

haha, just saw this, nice. If I ever move that plot, I'll contact you so you can place there. Hoping to open up shop in a few days, not sure which profession I'm picking though.

Anyone know a spot/shop I can get hooked up with some affordable beginner spellbooks (blessed means soulbound, yea?) and possibly some GM Carpenter/exceptional bard instruments? I don't need full spellbooks, just stuff with the essentials (recall, mark, teleport, etc).

Also, what is the process to get an item blessed anyhow?

Spellbooks are blessed as well as rune books. I don't think you'll find any beginner spellbooks on a vendor because full ones are going for only 4k. But you can create your second account and get a pair of young player tickets and one of the options from it is a spellbook with 1-4th circle spells.

Pretty sure you can't bless any armor/weapons on this shard, but you can bless clothes with clothes bless deeds from the donation vendor or a very rare drop from champion bosses.

Lithose check your pms in a minute.

The best spot I've found for spell books and rune books is the vendor next to my vendor house by the Brit Moongate.

If you run I believe NE from the Brit Moongate towards Brit, you will come to two vendor houses, a small 7x7 selling Repair Contracts, GM Weapons/Shields, GM Leather Armor, Greater Poisoned blades, and Ring/Chain/Platemail armor. That is my vendor shop. Right next to it on the left is a custom house with about five vendors as well. One of them sells Rune Books for 999 and full 64 spell, spell books (don't know the price). You really won't find anyone selling empty or incomplete spell books atm, you'll have to buy one full unless you want to run around the world checking mage vendors for the spells you need.

On another note, I made my Mage a Provo/Mage with Provoke, Musicianship, Magery, Evaluate Int, Med and Wrestling. Had a fun time Sat/Sun morning working the first level in Destard. Made about 60-70k, almost 2k Horned Leather and about 500 Barbed Leather.

Our city is also growing by leaps and bounds. Shane actually gave us a fence around our city and this weekend we put up a custom houses that will be our public garden/park area as well as another smaller custom that will be like a market place for our city.

Check out the goofy recruitment video our GM made.

Good news, looks like they added AR to colored armor. A light archer Dex suit of Ring sleeves, gloves, Chain tunic, leggings, Plate Gorget and a closed helm is now only -12 dex (was -15) and is AR 36 in Iron (was 34).

Same suit in colored armor increases by 2pts as you go up the colored ingot rarity.

Dull Copper - 38 AR
Shadow Iron - 40 AR
Copper - 42 AR
Bronze - 44 AR
Goleden - 46 AR
Agapite - 48 AR
Verite - 50 AR
Valorite - 52 AR

Also, colored weapons have higher durability.

Now all they have to do is fix the blacksmithing bug when making plate mail and people might actually wear plate.

So I finally caved yesterday and made a character.. I started macroing up a Bard in town doing the old music/peace on yourself trick. Then I made a dexer to run around on for fun and couldn't believe how fast I leveled. I started in the newbie dungeon with the gear they provide you, worked my way up in skill and gold to so NPC merchant weapons, then worked my way up to some GM made vendor weapons to hit Shame. People were very friendly and nice, even had a PK make me a full spell book, rune book with a bunch of runes and take me to Shame to kill earth eles. It felt like the old days.. hah..

I got to GM swords/90 tact/80 anat/60 heal/55 parry in just about a hour or more fighting the skeles in the newb dungeon and earth eles in shame. Then I lost my Young tittle and people started not being so nice anymore :p But it was fun while it lasted, and the tittle gave the me the opportunity to build enough stats/skills to defend myself and be able to run away from conflict, so it serves its purpose.

I might give this shard a go, I am not sure I can commit the time to being an ultimate PvPer anymore.. I am more interested in the dueling anyway. Blackyce I sent you a PM about your guild, KGC. I PMed Keen as well and talked with him a bit about the guild, the lack of PvP focus is a bit of a flag for me, but as I said I can't see myself logging on every night to commit to a PvP run anyway.. so this might be a good fight.

Yeah Haven [KGC] really isn't a PvP guild. We are more about a community of players having fun together and enjoying UOF as we like.

We've built a bit of a city NW of the Bog of Desolation, that actually has a gate around it. We have a ton of vendors and people who craft, a lot of PvE people including one guy who loves finding rares and has probably found 30+ already. We have another guy who loves to just fish and do treasure maps and when we feel like being nasty, we all bring out our thief characters and go raid Brit Bank. Just a bunch of people playing together, helping each other and having fun.

I really haven't had this much fun playing an MMO in ages.

This was one MMO I really had little exposure to.... I think I was really hooked into Starcraft and Diablo at this time but I'm installing this right now and even putting it on my Macbook Pro to goof around during upcoming travel downtime. Anyway we can get names of people playing or maybe people who don't care to help out a little.

I'm going to watch some videos of how to get started but my limited playtime combined with the elapsed time since i've even seen that game has me completely lost. Honestly though, that may be something to overcome and scratch the itch. This is going to be just like a new game to me. Any guidance is appreciated but here's to being a noob again.

I've been playing pretty much every day since the server came out, met a few people from the board here in game already. Mostly as an anti-pk and faction char with a few buddies.

Definitely make a bard (provoking skill + musiciansip) if you want to farm gold, at higher skill you can pull in 30-40k an hour pretty easily.

This game is very easy to make a character.. you can GM some skills in hours or less.

I made a melee toon and raised his melee skills including parry to the 70s in the noob dungeon in about 20 minutes, hopped a gate to Shame and under the cover of my Young tag (meaning you can't be attacked) was able to farm about 15k and GM swords in a very short amount of time. Used that 15k to train up my mage to be able to cast EV's then farmed the rest of my gold to finish him off using EV's on mobs in some less known farming spots that were PK free.

It was all effortless and moved very quickly on minimal play time. So if anyone is thinking of trying it out don't be scared away by the time commitment. I can pull in 20-30k/hr easily doing escort quests/clearing some of the smaller spawns in various dungeon spots. So you don't HAVE to have a Bard to make cash, but it wouldn't hurt. I wanted a PvP ready character first, so I went this route.

Long time UO player, where is this Noob dungeon? Are you talking despise ?

Also for my mage was thinking:
mage, med, eval, resist, wrestle, alchemy and scribe?

dexer:

swords tactics healing anat resist .... ? what else?

I'm more of a second age player.
