Is there a better explanation of this stuff?

What impact would moon phases and tar pits have?

Does grass ever come back? I got my first pickaxe and now the vicinity of our weird bunker looks like we're on the moon.

I also tried to see how deep I could dig, and at some point I realized that from the other side I just created a giant death trap of falling damage. Everyone was very amused.

Get a cultivator and you can plant grass free anywhere.

Went exploring up in the mountains and found a Dragon Egg, FYI it's 200lbs so having the belt off the vendor (which gives you an extra 150lbs of carrying capacity) came in handy. It's used to summon the dragon boss.

Got some obsidian but didn't find any silver, sadly. Will go back looking tomorrow!

Beat the last boss tonight. Pretty easy, but we had been gearing pretty rapidly once we defeated the slime boss . Kinda sad there's no more content that we know of, but we're going exploring and there's some biomes out there that are bereft of new content, but are definitely ripe for dlc already on the map.

Definitely worth the 20 dollars. I have fucking 66 hours in this game and I never afk'd in game. The rush of finding the 'next' material and then getting new recipes in these games is just the best. Really sucks when you hit the wall that is the defeat of the 5th boss. Now were just gotta kinda wait and hope the devs can crank out some more stuff fairly quickly.

Everybody I've watched play this (including WAB) have said how it's "the best survival game", but.. is it really?
First post by the guy above me is Thursday and he and his friends have beaten the entire Early Access content in mere 5 days.

That doesn't sound like 7000hours of playtime out of it like for example. ARK:SE with DLC's.

it's early access and you can judge a survival game on game mechanics just as much as you can judge it on amount of content.

You just compared a games amount of content that released 5 days ago in early access to a game that’s been out for almost 6 years with 10 DLCs.

I mean, really?

This game is hands down better than ARK was at release. Lord knows it’s better optimized as well, which ARK has problems with for years after its release.

anyways, yes, this is not only the best $20 I’ve ever spent on a game, it’s up there as the best survival game I’ve ever played, my previous favorite being 7 Days to Die. It’s content is great, the world is damn beautiful, mechanics are great, things are balance relatively well and by all accounts there’s a lot of content coming in their road map.

is it a perfect game? No. But is it the definition and new standard of what an early access game should be? Absolutely. It’s a great game.

many games content can be destroyed with a full group quickly. Mine is down to two (sometimes three) people and we are just enjoying a slower progression at this point and building. I built a farm last night along with taming some boars and today I’m gonna fish up a hundred or so fish and begin a full expansion of our first large base and turn it into a full sized settlement. Looking forward to working on it.

Yeah, I haven't played Valheim yet, but for $20 and the amount of content they have? It's hard to deny that they haven't somewhat set a new "standard" for this shit. I've paid more for survival games with a LOT less content than this seems to have.

This is probably the least buggy Alpha, fuck even less buggy than most open Betas, I've ever played. Honestly I don't know if I've noticed an actual "bug" besides server desync making items fly into the sky and such. All the items work. All the buildings work. I've never been stuck anywhere. You get recipes based on items you've found, so if there's 'missing pieces' I don't even know because I haven't found recipes missing anything yet.

Definitely worth the $20 and I played Atlas/Lost Oasis on pre-beta or whatever and they were much, much shittier than this game in terms of quality.

My BIGGEST complaint is maybe the scaling of mob damage (you NEED to keep up with armor ASAP) and general server instability when you've got 8-10 players up at once. We fought the 4th boss with 8 or 9 people last night and I'd post a clip, but it'd be a spoiler, and the mob was 30-45 seconds behind for some of us and we weren't sure if we were hitting it or it was hitting us. Just a complete shit show. 3-5 of the people had no issue and saw it perfectly fine. And I'm in the same geo region with 19ms as one of them (which is the server host) so I don't know what the fuck is going on with that.

After beating it we're just suping up our tier 5 armor and weapons and then we're just gonna sail the world. See if we find anything interesting outside of the usual 5.5 biomes. Probably not, but at least we'll know better trade routes for the future.

I have never tried one of these types of games and prefer to play solo.

You guys talked me into it and so far no regrets at all.

Thanks

this is the best alpha release I think I have played. I think the downside of the game is once you get through the content, you might not have much of a reason to play again, or at least until they put out new content, since the game is not finished. Which is why I am taking it slow, and just enjoying the ride ( I have only beaten the first two bosses)

The base building, and general environmental destruction is awesome. My friends were pretty mad when I trained the deer to their base, but it was pretty funny to watch it just destroy shit lol.

pro tip: trolls can help you get fine wood early if you can get him to wack on some trees for you, in addition to being something to mess with other peoples bases.

Beat the second boss, top of the world, time to expand! Go and establish a foothold on a new area, find the merchant, cool!

Once we realized it was a relatively small island (though resource rich, may setup another smelting op there), we decided to sail off to find new biomes.

Found swamp and plains, and the game has suddenly turned into a corpse run simulator. Time to replace this troll armor.... lol.

Got the cultivator and immediately went stupid with it. Friend cleared a massive area over two hours and flattened it with a million rocks. I covered the whole thing in grass and trees after he logged :D

is upgrading equipment worth it? What exactly does it do? I'm on Bronze armor and sword now.
