It's a survival game - they're all centered around mining sticks and base building. Abiotic Factor and maybe Enshrouded are the only ones that have a slight twist, but even they still have their "mining sticks" moments.

I'm still dealing with Ashlands in the previous version. I think I'mma just finish up Ashy, then cheese my character, gear, and expensive loots over to a new server Deep North map. No way I'm starting again

I'll give Valhiem 1.0 a shot at some point. ATM, im giving wrath of the righteous another playthrough.
No rest for the wicked was at thee time of my "play next". and I had even put a few hours into the start... but, it being pushed back. ill push that back again I suppose. Valhiem 1.0 will be the top.
its crazy, how much the other survival base builders stole Valhiems great ideas, then just ran with them. While Valhiem has lingered and progressed so slowly. I've mentioned this before.
valhiem deserves credit for revitalizing, and revolutionizing the genre. but others have left it behind.
food and comfort system largely.
Roads/megastructures is the one thing, others haven't really nailed, or embraced. (not that this allows megastructures either, but yes to roads)
carts/boats/roads are so great, but largely not copied by the others yet.
thats something valhiem does really well. makes transporting items part of the gameloop.
I wonder if any of the expansions have built on that? I'm not up to date. oxen, or minecarts or anything...

I'm starting a fresh run but with 1.5x gathering I think to take the sting out of farming a little. Also want to give Dragonwilds a go next week when it's 1.0 drops, and then there's Enshrouded 1.0 coming up... and all this other stuff I spun up on my server. ADHD brain in overdrive.

I started on 2x gathering. Just to get double mats. For no other reason than cores. I did a run once (which I abandoned) when the mist biome I think was added? Never got there (never been past plains). But I was looking for the cores that give you the smelter, just for starting the basic melting of copper and such, and I think I did 6-7 crypts and got 2. Just no spawns in them, looked all over. Then had to use a shit tier raft over to another place and got 4 more. Worst seed ever, abandoned it. So now I'm just putting 2x to get twice the loot and I don't feel bad about it. I also want to be finished with this by the time Enshrouded comes out. I do have Runescape too, but it didn't wibe that much with me.

I played this years ago and thought it looked incredible. There just was not much game at the time.
I also remember it as a hosted session more than a persistent world. Is that still how it works after 1.0, or are people running dedicated servers now so the world stays up when nobody is logged in?
If there is an FoH community server, I would not mind jumping back in.

This is a solid list.
Went through V Rising twice, once at 1.0, once for 1.1. Did Satisfactory all the way through at 1.0. Couldn't get into Conan Exiles. Beat Palworld at 1.0. Waiting for 1.3 for Core Keeper. Doing Valheim 1.0 right now. Debating on buying Dragonwilds next week.

Yeah, we've played
By default most Valheim dedicated servers pause when nobody is connected. There typically isn't an advantage for it to be running all the time, since crops grow relatively quickly and you can advance time by sleeping.

Bought valheim and enjoyed the first day. Made a shitty house, ate some boar meat and went to sleep. Highlight is when I learned trees have collision damage and killed me.
I'm not sure what the draw of the game is, what does Valheim bring to the survival game that Minecraft didn't do back in 2009?
