So, are Bards Ranged or Melee, primarily [AKA, does STR matter]? I assume once you start using Armor Pieces with +Music Mods, you put away the instrument and start wailing on things with melee.

With Bards, ( and i am not an expert other than having one @ level 43 ) i tried both ranged and melee and i ended up being more melee focused.. I think you could be more of a ranged bard ( which was my original idea ) but the skills you get ( if i recall correctly ) seemed to lend itself more to melee.

How casual can one play VG?

Got a new comp that will actually run new games and uave been getting the urge to log on to VG. I aoready have a high 40s paladin but havent played him since release, maybe have occasional 2~ hours a day or two a week to kill. Will it just be a waste to even log in?

In the early levels you would be ok but when you get to the 30s + some of the questlines get very long. That said there is plenty of solo ish content but that is not really where VG shines.

In groups Bards are primarily melee. Solo you will also be melee the majority of the time as your chain attacks are activated via parrying attacks and landing crits. There are times when you can utilize kiting as a bard (shout DoTs, song DoTs w/ horn, Bellow and Ranged attacks) to take down tougher mobs but it is not very fast. Fear/charm kiting is much more efficient than straight up kiting provided you have the room.

You will rarely if ever use an instrument outside of throwing up a regen song for downtime and later on for increased stats during buffing.

Stat wise you will start out spending your points in STR, DEX, VIT and than once you pick up your DoTs and some +energy regen gear you will move to STR, DEX, INT. Without putting points into INT your spells will only do around 75% of their total dmg (I only boost int enough to keep it at around 100% with songs up) and they do account for a good portion of your overall DPS.

Alright I went to Three Rivers area and was wondering if I should take the quests there. Since I hate questing, can I skip these and just roam the land and duo some 3-4 dots without quests? or is it going to reduce the leveling process dramatically?

Well the area near the dam has two decent weapon quests, from the sandland ladies over near the lake. There's one to kill Gorukar or something like that, a big fat turtle, and then you hand the shell to a dorf and he makes another weapon. It's a bit tricksy because you don't really know what you are going to get, so you might end up with 2 of the same thing, or might not be able to use any of the shell rewards.

Also there's a ton of quests for Kegger's dungeon at the dam. I did that ages ago, but haven't done it recently, been waiting on a chance to do it with some friends.

It's probably been three years or so since I've been to Three Rivers but I believe there a bunch of stackable repeatable quests that are basically "Kill x amount of X". So you go to town...get the quests, then just go grind in a nearby camp for a while, turn them in and repeat.

I know you said you hate questing, but the town is right next to it...it's more like grinding, return to town to sell garbage and get some bonus exp, rinse, repeat.

If I'm not correct about that area, I apologize, like I said it's been a long time :p

Alot of quest hubs have a missive board that offers repeatable quests that give missives that can be turned in for junk.

Whats a good place to go at around lvl 15? We've been doing Qa Riverbank, but since the quests go on for days.. the area has became kind of stale. Same shit, over and over at a further distance from the Quest Giver. I really miss Veskals Exchange.
