You can actually visit one of the Nexus chunks, it's .rift nexus273. It looks like there was supposed to be a bunch of elemental wings of the dungeon.

Just curious - are you able to pull in art assets, for like zones / geometry, etc., from Vanguard to UE5? Most of the humanoid NPC's, the PC's, and the mounts looked like complete garbage in my opinion - but I really enjoyed the look of the world.

Any update on this Xinux Xinux ? Still years away from a soft launch / beta? Or is it closer?

Looks completely stalled since the pandemic. From glancing at the task list it's not really clear what is the holdup, if it's personal or technical. Definitely looks like a complete stallout though-- and not just for a year, but a few years. Not a good sign.

I miss this game too. Been checking my backups for old screenshots I took but they look to be lost. Found this one from 2007 though. Most likely from the old FoH site.

Since they found the original 2006 EQ2 build for the first time this year, there is a strong chance Vanguard is stored somewhere in proximity. It taking over 10 years for a tech to recover the 2006 EQ2 build people had been asking for doesn't instill much confidence though. Maybe in another 10 years someone will stumble on it.

City of Heroes source code was leaked awhile ago. As an example of what's possible.

I saw updates on his dev log last time I checked

It's just a ton to do esp for a small crew
Original devs couldn't even finish the game, so I suspect it'll take even longer for these devs to.

Can't imagine being a dev watching Brad all wound up and immersed talking about this gigantic world they had to build on a budget and thinking "this mf is trying to kill us". But this did happen.

I only played VSoH for a limited time and never got to raid - can someone equate the APW dungeon to an old EQ dungeon in terms of size and scale?

My eq memory isn’t great but it was kind of like NToV or plane of time maybe. It had a lot of varied bosses scattered all over with a variety of trash between them, with different ways to skip small sections of it, I had a blood mage camped at the last boss for a CoH for our guild. Was really fun, I miss VG.

Ancient Port Warehouse is an absolute shit name for a raid okay?
I dont disagree and to be honest, I was over the "theme" or colors of the zone within the first 30 minutes, too. Then I continued to see it for what seemed like eons.

Their server setup (chunking) was a real problem at the time. You really did need a specifically high powered rig to not be setting at zone lines for fairly long periods to load in. I enjoyed the game (played from beta>whenever they patched in the Gray Halls? Grey Castle? Whatever the undead place was that had mobs but basically no drops) and then everyone from my EQ guild basically started dropping like flies. A couple of us completed the Red-tier weapon from the minotaur or whatever place, and I want to say it was right around the time they introduced the class specific armor stuff in the swamp area. But by then everyone had lost interest and while I was able to solo fairly well as a Dread Knight, the game lost interest for me when the people I played with lost interest.

Would love to revisit the game but I'm very curious about the server architecture that lead to those gnarly chunk loading times. Even if they were physically distinct servers I've just never understood what architecture decision lead to those problems. It was so much more noticeable than EQ that it was jarring, to say the least. And waaaaaay more noticeable than loading between Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms in early WoW.
