Yeah you could either view it like you're a bystander watching them, or could view it like they are miniature figures fighting on a table in front of you.

One thing that kind of puts a hamper on it is that fighting games are so competitive and the visuals are incredibly important, if your ability to perceive is degraded in any way it's a huge downside.

Suppose to reduce VR sickness by reducing the sensation of movement. Which to me defeats the entire purpose of VR, but I don't get VR sickness either.

Pumpkin carving contest at work today. I saw someone did an Oculus pumpkin last year so I went that route for work today. Most of the team has been over to my house and gotten nauseous during demos so they will all get the meaning:

Tunneling makes more sense for adventure style games or scene exploration VR (which will be a huge field of VR, it includes things like virtual museums/art galleries, architecture demos, product (ex: cars) demos, animated virtual porn etc) and makes very little sense for other fields of VR. I don't think it will end up being an option for VR FPS games for example.

And in scene exploration VR you can choose to move so slowly without any real penalty that VR sickness should be minimal. Forward locomotion can be used exclusively causes very little sickness (lateral motion causes some, backward motion is the worst). I don't think tunneling will be used very often, but maybe I'm wrong.

A lot of motion sickness problems will be heavily alleviated by using the first generation of VR systems instead of dev kits, but it's good that folks are experimenting with different approaches.

I can't tell if this is for porn or shopping but it's still pretty cool:

As good as it is for conveying clothing I feel like it won't be as useful as it seems to advertisers because they can't control the message as well.

Top NFL QB Carson Palmer trains with virtual reality - Tech Insider

VR made an appearance in a story by Peter King about how the Cardinals prepare for opponents each week.

The 35-year-old starting quarterback is nonetheless an old-fashioned guy. He says he still needs his team's playbook in a three-ring binder instead of using a Surface tablet like many NFL players; and yet, he is all about using the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset - usually to review plays and practice what he's going to see on the field.

Using software created by STRIVR Labs, which builds sports training programs for virtual reality headsets, Palmer says he uses the VR headset to practice football plays from every angle, watching the placement of his arm and elbow as he whips the ball, and see why a play either failed or succeeded.

How would this work, other than a spectator mode?

'Tekken 7' news: Game to be playable on PlayStation VR
It'd either work like:
A: watching action figures fight on your desk
B: Watching fighters fight in a ring/cage
C: Watching dudes fight in a hallway.

My guess is A.

Competitively, I don't think it'll be as big of a hit because I can't imagine players being better using VR instead of a screen.

For casual players I think it'll be a fun gimmick but using an immersive experience to focus on a small subset of a scene in fighting games isn't a great leveraging of VR.

I'm bummed out that I am not allowed to buy an HTC dev kit. I like having both of the Oculus sets and wanted to collect the Vive(s).

The Samsung VR headset is fucking awesome. It needs to cool down after like 10 min of viewing, which is ok with me because I like to take frequent breaks. Not only for my own eyesight and orientation etc, but the lenses become fogged every now and then. You have to try and stay really calm and breathe easily or you will fog the lenses really fast and have to take off headset to let condense.

The introduction video is a great example of what could potentially be done. All producers have to do is make 35-40 min "premium experiences" that are done in 3 segments about 8-12 min each. An interactive tour of Mars, Titan and Pluto for instance. They could also do interactive and in depth tourism based vids of different locations around the world. The possibilities are endless. Its defintely worth 100$ if you have a Samsung flagship phone.

Is the gear worth it if you already have a decent cardboard? Is there a better selection of apps? I have been interested in one but gotten bored of cardboards crappy apps, and wasnt sure if it was worth the price.

I think it will be worth it as more content is released. I really like the technology, it is very impressive. Legit VR experience with some of the video content. I dont regret buying, even if there isnt a whole lot out there yet.
