God even with the Facebook requirement (might use wife's account) I tempted by this.

$299 to be able to play untethered without any dumb camera setup. I only have a PSVR atm too of course and it's just a pain to set up + the tracking sucks a dick.

Also looks like you can use this wirelessly streaming from your computer instead of using the link and it's actually better quality if you have a good router.

This is where Sony is really falling down, I know they're working on their next gen VR but they've said fucking nothing about it.

Talk me out of it.

Everything points to PSVR 2.0 being wireless and much higher resolution with continued support for move/aim controller. (Patents pretty much at this point). However, with this, running in such high resolutions wirelessly and really all you would have to do is set up a dummy facebook account correct? Or when you tether to PC do they force you to link your Steam account to your Facebook account in which case fuck that.

Most (All VR games) of my library is on playstation. So I am not going to have a disparate library or be forced to buy the games again so I can wait.

Guess the headset is showing up today. I'm ready

Question is what's the best vr porn to watch

Finally got this. For $299 this is an absolute no brainier god damn. I'm sure there's a facebook tax bringing the price down but this thing is nice.

I'll give a thorougher review Monday

Ok so got to use this a lot yesterday, basically all day. Here are my thoughts.

First of all I have gigabit internet with a very good router.

I was able to set it up so that I could stream from my pc to it using either steamvr or just regular desktop games using Virtual Desktop and sideloading a patched version or whatever, not big on the lingo since I'm new to VR. Also streamed the view to my tv. Kind of crazy going pc > headset > tv.

This means that I can basically bring this thing anywhere in my house and play pc games, so last night people were over, we cleared out my living room and had a huge area to play. I still need to find my VR legs but everyone else was mostly fine

I got minecraft VR working and my son basically shit his pants. It was actually insane how awesome playing that was. In addition I made everyone play phasmophobia.

The good:
Fully wireless if you have a good internet setup
Price
Resolution and frame rate are awesome at 90hz
Controllers are mostly good

The bad:
Default headstrap is only good for casual use, we had to adjust it between people and it's not very good for that. Gonna buy the elite
The audio is just acceptable, for a good experience you'd want headphones

I think for $299 (or 399 but not sure why you'd need that) it's a solid investment. It doesn't have as nice controls or frame rate as the index, but I don't think the $700 difference is worth it for me.

I'm kind of annoyed about the Facebook login, but mostly indifferent to it. Some people last night hated the idea, so who knows.

do you notice ghosting / lag on the edges of the display but very sharp clarity in the middle? its a problem some people are reporting with quest 2

like when you move your head you'll see afterimages left/right of the middle as it chugs to catch up and redraw

No ghosting or lag/redraw. Mines in developer mode with 90hz on though. It definitely seems slightly more clear in the center though. Tough to tell what is the device vs me (glasses/contacts)

One thing that bothers me is without the glasses shield, my eyes feel like they're pressing against the lenses. I'm pretty sure it's just my eyelashes, but I have to wipe it down after use because it starts to smudge. But the glasses shield pushes it slightly too far from my face. With glasses it's nearly perfect depending on what style of glasses I use

Always turn on a fan before playing, it helps tremendously.
Good idea. In the living room the best we have is a ceiling fan and ac

Does it help minimize it, or is it supposed to simulate being in the real world so tricks your brain?

I'm not sure but I turn mine on high 5-10 mins before starting then it eases the sickness. You still have to build up a tolerance but if you play often it subsides.

Only game that really fucked me up is boneworks.

Phasmophobia was fucking me up because it felt so realistic and didn't feel like a game
Some other stuff to look into if you haven't already:

Compound

Skyrim VR with mods if you want to get into that slippery slope

Half Life Alyx

Boneworks

Superhot VR

HL Alyx is probably the best VR experience atm

How did you get minecraft in it, I read it wasn't available yet, which is what I was holding out for?

Alyx is one of the best gaming experiences ever made - so obviously burn through that.

Selling my Oculus Rift S as we speak. I have never had more, weird driver issues with something than that thing. Always has trouble picking up sensors, even with a really nice PCIe-3.0 card; add in the FB account bullshit, I'm out. Quest might just be cool enough to tempt me, but doubtful. That one HP is making looks badass as well.

I probably played 8 hours straight the first two days on Alyx, and my knees were so fucking sore. When I went to bed, I felt like I had sensory overload, it was hilarious. Thankfully, no VR legs or anything though.
