I have questions for Bulkhead, and while I think they are skilled developers, I firmly believe the 'attitude' and such is marketing PR and spin. IF you are a scrappy upstart, play the scrappy upstart and market it. Them paying streamers and such, lets be real. They're a company, don't buy the verbal garbage, lets see what they actually do.
They're not really marketing themselves as an indie studio in any traditional sense, I wanna say they consider themselves somewhere around a AA studio. They advertise that they're a studio that has broken out of publisher jail after years of agonizing red tape and that they expected 5-10k playerbase at most for wardogs. I played Battalion 1944, I enjoyed it.. but insert all the problems that the game had, all the financial requirements they had to follow, iirc they deliberately limbo'd themselves due to a forced console release to get out of the contract and to move on.. Honestly, the fact they were able to make wardogs a success after how bad Battalion 1944 emploded on itself is crazy in by itself. I personally enjoyed the idea of a more peeled back CoD1/2, DoD, CS style shooter that was Battalion 44 and some of those elements translating into "shoot sandbox" has been phenomenal. The PR stunt of not wanting your money is fine, but I think there is still validity to it all when you consider how other FPS went on high promises and months of disaster and undelivered. That sorta trend of respect and sentiment to the consumer has been growing. Not that they're immune, just theyre refreshing imo. I think Joe Brammer could go in a similar hall of fame as Tigole and Nikita.. he's not particularly as memorable or meme'd yet, but "go fuck yourself" is pretty good.
As far as paying streamers, I haven't heard them say they're paying streamers nor streamers saying they get paid. While i'm sure there is a possibility of them getting paid to do stuff, but I haven't seen the #ad yet which could lead to legal trouble for bigger streamers if they were taking underhand deals.. ontop of they're harkining to PUBG and Tarkov, where clout is based off the feedback of streamers and the wordofmouth streamers give is rewarded by the developers platforming them.. aka showing up in podcasts, doing interviews, giving them early information/test, ect. A few tarkov streamerse have openly had the conversation about how BSG doesn't pay them specifically, but through initiatives like twitch drops, exclusive interviews, streamer items, sanctioned events; they get paid but its not from the bsg wallets. There was the whole controversy regarding Nioceguy a few years back that he basically charged a "meet n greet" tierd fee, which highest tier included hanging out with Nakita/BSG and Nioce.. the long and short was to help cover his travel costs to the convention and run a mini vegas event for his fans
Naive, sure w/e but doesn't really seem to be the case; but again I don't think they're sitting here trying to tout we're just 4 dudes in a garage. I vaguely recall hearing the budget for wardogs was in the 10mil~. The transparency is probably the companies best aspect, and while I can get the skeptism; it's nice to see the Tigole Bitties baton pass on Dev to Player interaction. Fake or not, I atleast understand more than whatever absolute fucks at some of these triple A's are trying to do to games like CoD, Marathon, Battlefield, ect.. feels far more human and connected. As a long time Counter-Strike player, we suffer updates in silence and it's a party at the smallest of window moved two inches to the left or couple lines of datamined code. Even Deadlock's Yoshi is pretty quiet, but man it is it great when you get the "Yoshi" ping from discord and a banger of an update drops.
Anyway... ATM the game really feels sorta like an FPS MMO. More heavily on the FPS side, but with the skills and gear unlocks actually having power advantages, it really does have shadows of MMO ilvl at work.
I mean yeah, absolutely. Prog is incredibly important to the longevity of a game. The whole carrot on the a stick is what i'd say is normal for the average player to want to play the game.. while I don't have the specifics of the skills from my understanding is that they want it to be horizontal power.. you just do the thing better.. but I guess I don't really know.. The gear unlocks seem to be fading slightly, at least with the supposed 25% damage nerf to the .308.. I don't have all the math, but 25% of 60dmg unarmored from an FAL is 15? so 45dmg shots not counting the math on Armor Reducs, AP, or HP.. so at any given moment, 3 shots outright.. but at the same time, a .308 should feel inherently powerful; a 5.56 out damaging a 308 would be comical. I think the problem stims from a lack of content; We're getting a new caliber(ithink) which is nice, 6.8 which should make the Assault prog feel better.. but it is bewildering that we only got three that might as well have been 2 given the similarities between 5.56 and 5.45. Why did we not get a Galil ACE or AKM instead; 7.62x39 automatic rifle would have felt amazing and alleviated so many peoples problems; a solid inbetween 5.56 to .308.. Also with the whole meh letter box on T4, small arms are getting increased suppession effects.. so while its all just text, there may be a compounding effect happening.
To the XP trickle, while not exactly what you're saying; someone said it forever ago via yt and I don't remember who.. but was a review on the assault grind, and expanding what the assault gets xp from comparing it to the other roles that have otherways of gaining xp.. there might be a chance that the new xp/cash gained from hacking fobs, destroying fobs, and breaching doors be added specifically for assault.
