Depending on size you can lose 10-20 lbs in water weight in the first two weeks when you start a diet. Anyone who's ever done a boxer cut knows you can lose 15 lbs in one day if you understand how the body works and use it to its extreme. 36 lbs in 3 weeks is barely within what I'd say would be okay. If you hit 12 lbs the next week, I'd see a doctor to make sure you aren't inadvertently poisoning yourself.
You need to build the habits that keep you at your goal, not just get to it.
I have seen a Dr just yesterday for the Mounjaro/GLP-1 constipation and asked about the weight loss number; she didn't have any issue with my diet plan or the weight loss. I have been through a short burst of ketoacidosis previously when the insulins were R and N-mix; the long-lasting shots were every 12 hours and I missed one. It was extremely short-term suckage, i.e. I got immediately violently ill. I am super cautious and am aware of what happens when your body burns more fat than your kidneys can handle.
It won't be 12lbs this week because for the last two days I have been taking more insulin as I have been eating a bunch of stuff to try to combat said condition, things that normally work for me: eating things like a fruit-yogurt-parfait with oatmeal along with my meal and I had cherries as well, both things which are for me natural stimulants for enhancing motility, but also require additional insulin. Actually doubling my daily insulin dosage, and at that rate, I haven't lost any weight over the last two days. Actually I am a pound heavier today only 35lbs total lost. Going to try something OTC but stronger tomorrow as the Mounjaro nausea and overall effectiveness of the food remedies leaves something to be desired.
EDIT: So to recap: If I was a metabolic normie, with a normalish body weight (<300lbs) on a normal diet trying to lose weight and someone said they lost 36lbs in 3 weeks? Sure, I understand the skepticism; that math isn't mathing.
In my case, none of that is true: I am a long term diabetic, with multiple metabolic and autoimmune conditions, severely overweight, taking multiple hormones, one of which (insulin) primary function is the regulation the body's storage of fat. I am also on a bunch of other medications, etc. I have a few genetic idiosyncrasies related to my metabolism and muscle and weight loss and gain; I'm an outlier, probably related to the things that made me diabetic and the way my body handles insulin in the first place. I am also taking and very sensitive to GLP-1 drugs, they affect me super intensely, which is why I didn't do well on Ozempic the first time I took it; in that instance I also lost 50 pounds when I was titrating up but couldn't stay on it due to nausea and vomiting. The Drs are shocked to see this kind of reaction, not from the Mounjaro but from this small a dose; people generally don't see this kind of weight loss until the higher doses of the drug. My SIL didn't start losing weight until the 7.5 mg level, and then she lost it as fast as me at a much lower body weight. The Mounjaro also has some thyroid interaction, so it is probably upping folks' metabolism as well.
There are multiple factors at play pushing the speed of my weight loss. I am careful about my kidneys and trying to not kill myself losing weight, I am just happy to be able to do it after not being able since my back injury despite doing all the things I did previous but getting different results.
Damn guys. You all have some good discipline to lose this kind of weight consistently. I feel like at a failure to launch and really don’t want to rely on pharmaceuticals like other friends our age.
I don’t think I have a lot to lose, but certainly 12-15 around the mid section.
If I was able to do this consistently, I wouldn't be here in this thread after years of physical fitness experience writing about it like Skeletor(HA) taking on He-man saying, "Let this be our final battle". I just found a thing that after years of trying and failing, and failing, and failing, and almost giving up hope and submitting to bariatric surgery I found something that was literally working wonders for me and wanted to share it with my FOH brethren.
You can and will absolutely get there, bro.
