Sure, but imagine trying to quit heroin when you need a 'responsible' amount of heroin every day to live, you're inundated with ads for heroin, and not only is it cheap and socially acceptable, society is practically built around shoving it in your face constantly. Sure, it's ultimately on you to control your behavior, but it would be a fuck of a lot harder.

Yeah I can't imagine losing weight on vacation. Half the reason I would visit a place is to check out the food there.

My dad it doesn't matter where he traveled or saw. He could have seen the best thing in the world, it comes down to some place he ate that had great whatever. His boss once told me he would travel 200 miles for a free hamburger. Pretty much. How he is not 300 pounds amazes me.

I guess it's a good thing food isn't heroin then?

I used to travel for work sometimes with a guy who only wanted to eat at Outback Steakhouse or TGI Friday's. Fucking drove me nuts.

Well, as you say:
The issue is eating whether you're hungry or not, prioritizing bad foods because you like the taste/experience, and eating even though you know you're overweight and need to stop. Thats a food addict.
Overeating kills more people than drugs in general and is a harder habit to kick than heroin.

I guess if you have an addictive personality and can't control yourself, anything could be bad. Good to know.
It's true, but you say it as if it doesn't apply to most Americans (depending a bit on where you want to draw the fatty line).

According to that I’m obese, lol.
yeah, bmi is pretty shit on an individual level, more reasonable at the population level though. What % of adult Americans have your physique? and what % of Americans with a 30+ bmi aren't actually fat? I'm 31ish, and I guarantee I'm still fat lol.

It just strikes me as a lazy government invention. Quick maths, lump everyone together, job done.

Hmm. How do you feel about drugs, booze and cigarettes then? Ozempic is now used off label for addiction too. Two sides of the same coin it seems.
Dunno for sure what you're going here but I feel like some of Cad's posts have been reasonable responses. I think anyone can quit drugs/alcohol/cigs/whatever just as easily as they can quit overeating. Just a matter of self discipline.

*Disclaimer: i'm sure there's some stupid arguments like "well if you come off doing $3470 of heroin every day cold turkey then you will literally die so it's not just about discipline" crap.

This is almost or possibly even equally as disingenuous as the "covid killed everyone who died from 2019 to 2022" garbage.

Most Americans are fat enough to have detrimental health outcomes because of it. The vast majority of people who get fat will never maintain a healthy weight again. This is a far bigger societal issue than drug abuse. I'm wrong a lot though, so maybe it's a bad comparison. Feel free to walk me though the logic.
(maybe glp's will change this? although I won't be exactly shocked when turbo-stomach-cancer starts kicking in in a decade or so)
