I’m trying to enjoy it, despite the fact that I stand by my opinion that it’s filled with janky mechanics (things that haven’t changed since I played DS3) , and the game just wants to punish you, and seemingly rewards you for exploiting or “cheesing” it by beating encounters with unbalanced mechanics /overleveling/ picking up endgame gear and upgrading it the first chance you get, dropping a DOT on the boss and running around in a circle. Summoning ashes/mimic tears….I have gotten pretty good at convincing dragons, death rite birds and Night Calvary to fall off cliffs. Most of these victories don’t feel like you’re playing a game though.

The appeal is you pick up some fancy pokey thing, and it does something really cool, but the game when all is said and done comes down to positioning, if the boss is directly in front of you, you’re probably in trouble, if you’re to the side of the boss, under the boss, behind the boss, you’re probably good. For dungeons they try and find ways to ambush you so you panic roll into a wall/get stuck in a corner/fall of a cliff. Dying isn’t really a punishment, so they kinda just expect you to become ok with it, but no, I’ve played enough games, I don’t feel like dying over and over again until I just scrape by is fun, nor do I find it fun when I just demolish everything without any challenge, and there is rarely an inbetween, and the AI can vary so dramatically, even from just one attempt to the next

I am still trying to find that one weapon that will make me forget all the jank, we’ll see
I liked the fallen star beast jaw weapon a lot. Once I got it, made my runny around a lot easier. It's probably nerfed though.

Wrong.
There is no 'seemingly'.

I heard it is very op’d and makes the game fairly trivial, I had considered getting it early.

It also looks stupid as hell and takes up your entire screen

I watched a lot of that guy's videos when I was playing for fights that were just annoying, they're great. I just like it because it's fire and forget and will stagger enemies maybe after a couple of hits or something I don't remember.

What can I say I'm an old man.

I get it, I just feel like I’ll get bored of it, plus really what’s more powerful here the loot or the damage over time skill he used to get it

I had to watch the video because I didn't remember. I don't think I necessarily used that tactic or at least I tried to or I think fucked it up, and I ended up having a fight the damn monster, and somehow survived on my first attempt. I don't remember what I was using but I think I had some rot magic or spell or something, and I just ran around until I got him down. I think I somehow remounted and just ran around jousting it. It was pretty fun though.

The weapon itself is or was amazing. I just know they constantly patched and buffed or debuffed weapons because of the stupid PVP element, so I have no clue if the weapon you can get is as powerful as it was back in the day. That kind of stuff pisses me off because I consider it to be a single player game but yet they're going to sit there and dick around "balancing" for an element of the game I don't give a shit about.

I never got into the invasions or any of that stuff because I know there was going to be some kid that's going to whoop my ass. I just wish the game would have had co-op without that stupid summoning system where you could have just played with your buddies from the get-go, but I think there's a mod that allows you to do so and everybody can pick up the gear that you're rewarded for downing whatever monster or finding it in a dungeon.

I've been putting off buying Elden Ring for years. It's on sale a decent amount right now and I'm tempted to buy it, but I feel like I'm going to end up like you and it's just...not for me.
Outside of Nintendo games in the 90s (like Zelda and Mario), I don't play Japanese games or have any nostalgia for them. Not sure if that contributed to it, but I did not really like Elden Ring either.

The mage/caster gameplay sucks, as it consists of kiting shit using the same, most efficient, spell for most of the game, but people seem to love the melee game.

There is hardly any story and if you want it to make sense, you probably need to go read notes or "books" scattered about. I don't remember much, if any, choice and conscience (maybe the white witch quest?) but I quit playing out of boredom after hitting the second invisible wall so maybe it mattered for the end.

The best part of the game is exploration but, unless you just love the combat and busy work, it can get annoying "clearing" areas (everything respawns) and not getting anything you want to use. With such a huge world (that have little or no quests/story involved with them) it incentivizes looking up where to find useful gear for what you want to play. Also, there are at least two invisible walls (before and after the main enemy city) and a soft locked area (getting into the underground), that require killing bosses before you can pass them.
