What do you do? (Title/keywords)

Customer Service Manager aka. Im the guy you bitch to when my cashiers fuck up or the lines are too long

What field/industry?

Retail

Wages?

$11/hr

Bonuses/SEP?

Increased thoughts of suicide and empathy with people who commit mass shootings

Age

29

Why?

Before I decided to go back to school I worked for a printing company as a 2nd pressman, if you ever read Playboy, Victoria Secret, National Geographic or Sports Illustrated then I printed it. When the recession hit then the guys with the least time were let go. I dicked off working at Krogers for about a year until I decided what I wanted to go to school for.
So now I'm here while in school to earn a degree in Secondary Education/history with a minor in Economics and Criminal Justice. I want to teach, hopefully I can teach history which is my passion. I plan on also picking up a certification in English so I can teach grammar/literature. The criminal justice minor is to open myself to law enforcement. Thinking of possibly being a substitute teacher for awhile while working as an officer. With the schedule of the police departments around here being 12 hr shifts 3on/3off 4on/off I could easily substitute teach and be a patrolman.

I do rig support, mainly purchasing or facilitating the delivery of things that are necessary for the day to day operation of drilling rigs.

What field/industry?
Oil & Gas

Wages?
~70k / yr

Bonuses/SEP?

Benefits?
Health + 401k

I work on a 3 week rotation. I spend 3 weeks at work and then have 3 weeks off to do whatever I want to. Essentially I have 6 months vacation a year with the option of giving away time at work whenever I want to. If I decided I want 9 weeks off it would be easy to arrange. This makes traveling very easy. Downside is it is hell on relationships.

I'm a Paramedic in St. Louis and am kept just above the poverty line so I'm not tempted to rob my patients. And that about covers it. It's one of those jobs you don't do for money.

Where do you work?
I work as a Grant Writer for a large Dutch financial services consultancy firm.

What do you do? (Title/keywords)
Generally I go to companies to talk with their R&D managers/people about their latest inventions and put my grubby mits on them when able. Then, based on that experience I write a grant application to either the Dutch or the European government. Sometimes I do other grants as well, but they aren't as much fun.

What field/industry?
Financial services consulting

Wages?
I just started working last year (was a slack student) and started at about $40.000 yearly. I'm pushing for at least $5.000 more this year. Regardless, I just turned 30 and I see some around me in the same field doing better for this age, but I'm not bad off at all I think, even if I don't make crazy money.

Bonuses/SEP?
We get a share of the company's profits. Company hasn't done that for a few years now though.

Benefits?
I get a ~$30.000 car to drive around including 'free' gas for a paycheck deduction of about $2.500 a year. The free gas is absolutely HUGE with the gas prices around here.

Where do you work?
Letter processing plant (Postal service).

What do you do?
Sort letters in one way or another, be it via a machine, manually or ensuring others do it.
Also freelance translator, but only one real client.

30 to 40k a year, depending on number of translations and how many extra shifts I take at the plant.

Bonuses?
2 to 4 extra days off a year, depending on the compay's annual profits

Benefits?
Live in Sweden, universal health care system. Employer reimburses me for some medications (champix), $300 a year on my gym card or equivalent health maintenance.

It's a horrible job and I'm bored most of the time. I am the perfect example of what happens if you don't study/ get a degree, when you 'ought' to. Having said that I am fairly happy with many parts of my current life. I will get a degree soonish (studying part time) , but it probably won't help me in terms of career, turning 44 this year. I love my wife, 3 daughters and the house we bought 6 months ago.

Where do you work?

Federal Gov't / Department of the Army / GS-9

What do you do? (Title/keywords)

Information Tech Specialist (Customer Support/System Administration)

What field/industry?

I work for the US Military Entrance Processing Command.

Wages?

a little over 60k/yr

Bonuses/SEP?

Bonuses? Lol.

Benefits?

Can't complain about benefits, I am on the Federal Blue Cross/Blue Shield family plan. Let's just say that I almost passed out when I got the bill for my child being born - 11 dollars and 38 cents. 11 fricking bucks.

I love my job and believe in the mission of making sure applicants to our Armed Forces are qualified, but I am getting sick of the fact that I feel underpaid compared to what others even in the federal gov't that have the same job as me are; and I am sort of getting tired of being a political scapegoat. That goddamn USA Today article that talked about federal salaries, I want to find who wrote that and shoot them in the fucking face. But, with my Army time, I have 15 years of federal service in at 35 years old, and I would be a fool to leave now to start over somewhere else...that's alot of time invested. I'm also not really willing to move for a few years, so opportunities for promotion are extremely limited. The salary is good for the area I live though, so beyond personal frustration it isn't too bad.

Where do you work?

Hospital laboratory

What do you do?

Histotechnologist

What field/industry?

Healthcare

Wages?

$24/hour base pay, can't really predict annual salary because there's a lot of overtime.

Benefits?

Very good health care, $32 per pay period (every two weeks) gets you full coverage with no deductible, only other charge is $15-$35 co-pays depending on where you go. They give you $120/month for your 401k.

I like what I do, basically the work requires just the right level of mental energy. It's not so simple that it's repetitive and boring, yet at the same time it's not so difficult that it's stressful and exhausting. Currently there's a lot of overtime, and that's simultaneously the best and worst part of the job. I've reached 60+ hours and double-time pay several times this year. The worst part is you never know when they're going to need you to stay longer. Doctors are VERY picky about having their slides in as early as possible, so if we get slammed with work they need everyone to stay and get shit done. That means when you go into work you never know if you're going to be working 8 hours that shift or 14.

EDIT: Wow, forgetting one word made me look like a pretentious ass there.

Ever consider jumping to another gov job? You should be able to put in for some higher paying grades. Also...every government agency gets bonus money if I'm not mistaking..
