Eh, I get it. But it has been a dream purchase of mine for over 20 years. In that time, I've certainly spent more (total) on dumber things.

Pics dude. I know you don't have it yet, but surely you saw a pic online before making the purchase.

I also have lots of windows open and also prefer them to be in the same order all the time. I use a utility called 7+ Taskbar Tweaker to move the applications around in the taskbar: 7+ Taskbar Tweaker - RaMMicHaeL's Blog. Left click on any icon in the group to move the whole group around in the task bar. Right click to move a single icon around within the group (you have to enable right click in the 7+ option panel in Grouping -> Drag within groups using right mouse button). This would allow you to move your open folders to always be in the same order.

Thanks, i will look into it. One of the best things about the jimmy rustle thread is how often someone has a solution to your problem.

So I'm using plex to watch Dexter and when I finished the last episode of season 3 it jumped to the first episode of season 5. Those of you familiar with the show know that something pretty fucking shocking happens at the end of season 4 and now that thing has been spoiled for me.

There are no words in Elvish, Entish, or the Tongues of Men for how rustled I am.

I have a question for those of you in IT.

What sort of super stealth ninja cyber warfare attack is being defended against when you lock a user's account after typing the wrong password three times? Is there some data out there that 3 attempts is a good threshold? It seems like any intruder will either a) already have your password or b) need to brute force it with 100s of attempts, whereas the most common user typing it in 3x is someone that either left capslock on, made a typo a few times or is trying to remember which password they used for XYZ account.

I'm half convinced IT makes it easy to lock an account just so they can keep their call volume up and look useful.

This is like asking "dear members of the medical community, why do podiatrists touch my feet like do they have a weird foot fetish?"

I'm a computer programmer, the same system policy that applies to you when you log in to a domain applies to me, the security people set up the policy with the Sys Admins, and yes they are mostly useless, although so are almost all the business users I write applications for so... Actually the IT thread in the grown up section was just talking about security. My experiences is there are two types of security people, those who couldn't hack it in Development, so they just run some bull shit scripts, and the other group of extra competent guys with all the stupidly expensive and difficult Certs, with compotency on multiple levels, but if they're working at a run of the mill company they're probably closer to the former.

the fact is most IT people view non IT people--at least when it is in regards to using computers--as idiots, and quite honestly we are very rarely proven wrong. Security gives a dumb seemingly arbitrary number of attenpts to cover their own ass, because if you are compromised, and as a result malware gets into the system, they are on the hook to find it and prevent as much damage as possible, so to them its easier to make logging in a fucking hassle to you and me, then to worry about putting out fires every minute, because you hide your password under your keyboard.

But yeah passwords are annoying as shit, just remember most of us have like 5x the number of credential log ins as you, its not like you're the only one that has to put up with this shit. There's a lot more difficult shit I have to do than quarterly rote memorization.

Fun morning at colorado snowgeddon worksite. 8am Relief can't get here, his help in a truck couldn't get to him either. knee high snow abou 200 feet between parking and the gate house so my normally great snow car is out of clearance. The other coworker filling in locked the only door badge inside after warning her to attach to uniform so she didn't do exactly that. Then we spent an hour digging her car off the hill and making a space for it by the shack. So if plows ever reach us she can leave easier than me.

Unclear after 12 hours do i become unpaid and the post unmanned or i continue to rack up overtime when normally we arnt allowed more than 12hrs and certainly not over 16.

Oh and every ten minutes i have to go scrape the towers windows because they Icee over and you can't see anyone coming. Less than ideal as the heater is only managing like 50 degrees.

This was a very long way to say "because most IT people are retards," which I kinda already figured. I also highly doubt most IT people have 5x the logins I do, unless they literally have 35-45 logins....

I don't know any podiatrists, but the reason your doctor does anything is one of three things (in this order)

1) it is useful for your care
2) it is a waste of time, but your insurance requires it for payment
3) it is a waste of time, but will make you feel like we tried something, which beats nothing!

After we leave the room, swap #1 and #2. (This is the true megarustle of my life)

I have 30+ logins to different GoDaddy accounts alone.

If people wouldnt use the same fucking password with work systems and their Onlyfans or Pornhub accounts then security would have a lot easier time protect the idiots from themselves. But we all know that will never change.

Fair enough on the logins, are you in security?

I still don't see where the 3-5 attempt maximum protects anybody who uses the same password at work as they do on Pornhub/Onlyfans. I've been working in hospitals for probably 8 years and I've literally never had to call to get my account unlocked EXCEPT when it was my own doing.

I'll say my favorite is the VA system though. Those guys will literally just give you a new login and password over the phone with no identity verification whatsoever, lmao.

Looks like I need to start making a hive that will soon need rescuing from this bee expert. Because bees are important to the environment of course.
A friend of mine also loves bees. It must be a very attractive woman thing to do.

Your comment about Podiatrists is inaccurate, you're not a Podiatrist, so you don't know why the fuck he's playing with your feet. Maybe he's fucking weird and has a foot fetish, which is why he got into Podiatry. Unless you know the science of Podiatry you don't know the "why" of why he's doing it, your 1-3 are assumptions, which is by the way part of the reason Sec has to keep you locked down.

As far as the above, arguably there are lots of retards in IT, unequivocally there is a factor more in most other professions.

Here's the issue, if there is some "best practices" policy mandated by some White Hat Org, that has a report showing a lockout after three failed attempts reduces risk by X percentage, then when shit hits the fan, Sec can say, "Well we did everything by the book, we can't be held accountable." Further if they can point to this report when talking to the brass, do you think top management will give a fuck about your fat sausage fingers, versus whatever pie-in-the-sky numbers they were told? No they don't factor in your ease-of-use, which is stupid because it does decrease work performance, and decreases morale, but in the age of woke and bloated, HR Stuffed, Project Manager's with no comprehension of the project, QA that have the IT savy of end users, business users that don't even know what their job functions are, the company is going to padlock every stupid door, regardless of how easy it is to shim those locks, or just buy a master set of keys online. After all if passwords are that Jimmy Rustling, maybe you're just part of that bloat.

said best practices:

Fucking daylight saving time needs to go.

All my shit at work has been logged an hour off since 3am on Sunday because the server that controls it is not set to automatically adjust for DST. Jobs are getting assigned to the wrong people because of this and I have to put up with it and manually change shit until someone can fix the fucking clock later today.

Here is the post in the other thread, which includes a pic. Sorry if I linked it incorrectly, I am not in the habit of linking individual posts and I know there is a right way and a wrong way.

WTF is with all the Tranny porn now.

Sure, in the past you would see a category list with Shemale or Ladyboy. Just skip and keep going. Now this shit is everywhere.

That's the smart searches kicking in. They get their data from google. Never google tranny porn. That's what DuckDuckGo is for.

This forum COULD also be to blame. Because of all the stupid Asmongold videos imbedded into the MMO forum here, for months that stupid smug face was in my recommended videos. Maybe the same thing happened with tranny porn?

i guess i should have mentioned incognito mode and no tranny searching.

Just list of categories like they always have, but way more categories under that specific sub genre.

Redding removing porn from r/all has really pissed me off. Is there an alternative? I always wanted to keep my subscribed subreddits SFW so I can browse it wherever I am.

I used r/all for a random titty here and there, but now that's all fucked.

There's a $5B lawsuit against Google for tracking data from incognito mode.

Got a message from Amazon that a problem occurred during shipping and my package was undeliverable, that they are returning it, and I will be issued a refund in 3 to 5 days. WTF. Why not hold onto it until it becomes deliverable? If I order again will the same thing happen?

I suspect it was damaged, but why not say so.
