Even getting just a battery "for backup" purposes - then charging it over night (cheaper) - then having the battery run during prime, can cut your monthly due to it playing the peak/prime cost game.

Weirdly, I think its actually illegal to charge your battery from the grid during off-peak and use it during peak. The powerwalls and most battery systems will only charge from the solar, not from the grid. Otherwise if I got a free nights/weekends plan I would never pay for electricity again.

can't have people avoiding dynamic pricing. most places that have it, 3-4pm til 7-8pm can be up to double off peak rates. seen clips where cities have quadruple rates during critical peak times, like during a heat wave.

If you did a custom battery management system that you can program yourself you could do it no problem, but none of the integrated systems will do it off the shelf since it violates the power company's rules.

Day five now of 101+ fever....

Have you ever had a fever long enough that the thought comes into your head "I can't remember what healthy feels like"?

Not sure about that. I haven't called these guys yet to get details, but base power supposedly installs batteries in your yard that charge during off peak and discharge during peak. According to the website they have agreements with power companies for lower rates to do this because it provides electrical stability to the entire area by taking away some of the peak load. Now, maybe the agreements are the key and for some reason we can't do that without an agreement. But I thought the agreement was more about a lower rate.

I'm actually thinking about doing this at my mother's house but I haven't gotten around to calling them for more details.
