What's the rustle du jour?

In a word, or more accurately three letters and a word : AT&T Uverse

After having it for years, and slowly coming to the realization that it probably wasn't worth the cost (Around $220 a month) we hit an inflection point. A month ago the Uverse box in our living room died. Instead of calling for a replacement, we did a one month trial of "life without Uverse". Between "channels" we get for free on our LG TV for background fodder (Hi2u Mysteries at the Museum and How The Universe Works), my HD Homerun box with an OTA antenna (~90 OTA channels where I'm at in DFW) , HBO Max which we get for "free" with our wireless, and an amazon prime membership the only things we missed were a couple Stars hockey games which were on, I believe, TNT or TBS or somesuch. So I'm rustled at myself for not cancelling sooner.

I call to cancel today, I have to sit on hold for almost an hour, they won't let you cancel on the website. The guy does the obligatory attempt to pitch me another package, I get it, it's his job. Then he admits that the AT&T Uverse we have they don't even offer as a service anymore, and haven't for years, but just kept us as legacy customers of it. That the equivalent new thing would be their new streaming service (which Uverse also effectively was), and would only be $99 a month. Still too high to pay for 2 hockey games a month, but it made me realize we'd been paying over $100 more than if we had just got the new service and nobody at AT&T thought that might be something to upgrade folks to? So that's bonus rustle.

Bottom line pickle tickle lining, our budget is now $200+ a month lighter though so I'm calling that a minor net win.

Fucking amazing isn't it? We get about the same here. But growing up when OTA was all there was, we had 8 and one of those was a shopping channel. Blew my mind that people were still creating new channels in the age of cable and streaming. Granted, they average about 3 channels each now since the swap to digital, but that's still 25 more fuckers who started broadcasting while I wasn't paying attention.

Also, in keeping with the thread, the digital channels rustle my jimmies. I live in the boonies and when you lose a digital signal it goes completely away. Back in the good old days if the signal got weak it was just a little snowy and you could still watch the game.

Yeah, part of me is surprised they aren't building basic OTA antennas into the TVs now. But then I remember that it's more profitable for the TV manufacturers to bundle a bunch of low cost streaming channels together as a bundle that "comes with" your TV and then make ad money off them.

I miss the wife, but I don't miss the 30 different subscriptions she had ticking away , DPSing my CC to death.

DirectTV(ouch), SiriusXM just for the 80s, Hulu, Amazon Prime, some weird Samsung Food calendar thing($100 annually), Factor foods, and a few others I can't recall.

Now it's just Crunchyroll and Amazon Prime, but I've been thinking of killing Prime. It IS nice that uBlock origin works to kill Amazon ads too for streaming.

We actually order enough through Amazon that prime wasn't a horrible deal for us even before they added Prime Video, so that will probably stay around. Netflix is about to go buh-bye, Hulu's already gone (The wife decided we were giving NO money to Hulu/Disney), I'm pretty sure she cancelled Crunchyroll already, We get Paramount+ and HBO Max "free" with other things.

So we're back to the requirements to sign up for old school dial up BBS's that may have adult content on them?

I'd cancel everything else before Crunchyroll at this point. It's entertainment per dollar Is insane if you have not been a life long anime fan.

She is far more the Anime fan than I am. (Still need to finish Sakamoto Days) But also she worked in the import/distribution/retail side of Anime/Jpop/Manga/All things Japan long enough to have accumulated quite the library of everything she likes for the most part and barely watches it compared to how she used to. At this point saving $220+ a month axing UVerse , I could care less if she decides to keep/drop Crunchyroll.

(Also I'm in process of building the new "media server" for the house which will have somewhere around 80TB of space for media storage.)

You can thank your bible thumping state congress critters for that. Up to almost 2 dozen states now. You can use a VPN to get around these though. Not sure how it works with sites that require payment info though.
Louisiana, Utah, Texas, Florida, Arizona, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Wyoming, Indiana, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, Alabama, Georgia, Missouri

To be clear, I didn't encounter this while looking for porn.

And I'm not trying to say I'm better than that or don't look at porn or something. Just clarifying.

The most recent was a government motherfucking website.

What makes me angriest about it is the fact that its spreading means that people are just doing it. These motherfuckers are actually uploading selfies of themselves in order to get permission to access an app or website.

Our species doesnt deserve to live any longer.

Two teens, one black, one Hispanic, walking our neighborhood with hoodies covering their heads (it’s 60 degrees and sunny). One carrying a stuffed animal, looking at houses.

100% chance they are looking to knock on doors with some lie and then push into a house to rob it.

NFL blackout rules. Specifically I'm talking about the rules that say a team can black out it's closest competitor, not the rules about local blackouts when there's no sellout. If thats even still a rule, I haven't actually heard about it happening in a long time.

Why you gotta fuck over nfl fans just because they live in a different city? It's goddamn bullshit and it's even more bullshit that the rules aren't clear and sometimes you don't know your team is blacked out until you try to turn on the fucking game.

Also fuck the Texans I know they got expanded blackout powers when they came into the league.

I don't live there anymore but NASCAR used to do that in Charlotte when the 600 was racing there. There were 250-300K people at the race and that's not enough for those fuckers they have to black out the local feed?

Government sites all require login.gov or id.me accounts now and those are what require photo verification, if not live video chat verification of you holding up your id next to your face.

Its for old people who are just getting scammed non stop because they dont understand the internet. Had to help my brother in law set up his for his va benefits and social security. He had been making appts and waiting 6 months to update minor shit that can be done with a few clicks online before that.

Went into the pool, forgot I still had my phone in my pocket. 'oh well, not a big deal, it's waterproof, I'll take it out when I get out in a few minutes'

Later that day, every camera on this stupid phone has condensation inside on the lens. Good job Samsung, you cunts.

Yes, login.gov is where I saw this.

Your explanation covers why it started, it doesnt begin to explain why a single person complied with this.

Ranting again at the cunts who set it up and the cucks that complied - people who havent read or understood scifi shouldnt be allowed to make decisions about the future.
