I saw a documentary on him once that debunked the bat thing. The real story isn’t too far off though. He went to a meeting with some record label big wigs or something, and they did this thing when he walked in the room, they released a bunch of doves as he entered. He was drunk or high and ended up grabbing one of them and biting its head off.WTF you mean myth?
He did bite the head off a bat that was thrown on stage and was then rushed to the hospital to get a round of rabies shots.
The bat thing itself is claimed to have been because of fans. Some crazy fan threw a sedated bat onto the stage, which Ozzy thought was a toy or something and was fucking around. But this happened long after the dove thing where he actually bit off the head a dove and threw it in the lap of a middle aged female music executive... in the 70s. That one is undeniable and totally true. His now widow Sharon is extremely shrewd on business dealings and recognized how easy it was to sell such an absurd act. However many of them were "staged" he still actually did many of those things. Which did again feed into his metal reputation. It wasn't a myth. He really did it. Unless you think he got rabies shots just to sell the bit.
Billy Corrigan did an interview with Sharon recently on his podcast and it helps explain a lot of why Sharon is the way she is. It also helps explain Ozzy's career "arc" as well.
Sharon is the daughter of a borderline criminal music manager in the UK. One who very much abused the bands he was managing and acted far more like a mob boss than a milquetoast businessman. He was known to outright shakedown his acts for money and rob them. Some of this shrewdness and ruthlessness Sharon learned from her father. Can you tell me what you mean the way Sharon is? Genuine question, I'm interested in the answer. I've seen her function in a number of different roles, and I don't really know that I could point to one pattern of behaviour and say it's idiosyncratic to Sharon.

I watched the documentary like 30 years ago so I dug a little deeper. Apparently the dove thing was how it started. After that stunt was when people started throwing stuff up on stage for him to bite.![]()
