As a massive Ozzy and Black Sabbath fan. The old man is far from dead. I wear a Master of Reality shirt to work regularly.

Dude just became metal forever.

WTF you mean myth?

He did bite the head off a bat that was thrown on stage and was then rushed to the hospital to get a round of rabies shots.
I saw a documentary on him once that debunked the bat thing. The real story isn’t too far off though. He went to a meeting with some record label big wigs or something, and they did this thing when he walked in the room, they released a bunch of doves as he entered. He was drunk or high and ended up grabbing one of them and biting its head off.

Ozzy never abused needles. He hated them so despite doing every drug in existence he never injected anything. There is nothing to ever suggest he did. He smoked, snorted, swallowed, and drank anything you could conceive though. Repeatedly.

It wasn't a myth. He really did it. Unless you think he got rabies shots just to sell the bit.
The bat thing itself is claimed to have been because of fans. Some crazy fan threw a sedated bat onto the stage, which Ozzy thought was a toy or something and was fucking around. But this happened long after the dove thing where he actually bit off the head a dove and threw it in the lap of a middle aged female music executive... in the 70s. That one is undeniable and totally true. His now widow Sharon is extremely shrewd on business dealings and recognized how easy it was to sell such an absurd act. However many of them were "staged" he still actually did many of those things. Which did again feed into his metal reputation.

Just gonna toss this out there - Ozzy's book is a fantastic read.

An example is the foreward where he says, paraphrased "I've done a LOT of drugs. The stories in this book are correct to the best of my memory. But if someone tells you differently, believe them."

Billy Corrigan did an interview with Sharon recently on his podcast and it helps explain a lot of why Sharon is the way she is. It also helps explain Ozzy's career "arc" as well.

Can you tell me what you mean the way Sharon is? Genuine question, I'm interested in the answer. I've seen her function in a number of different roles, and I don't really know that I could point to one pattern of behaviour and say it's idiosyncratic to Sharon.

From now on I'm just going to assume everyone that pops up in this thread must have known too much about Epstein.

Sharon is the daughter of a borderline criminal music manager in the UK. One who very much abused the bands he was managing and acted far more like a mob boss than a milquetoast businessman. He was known to outright shakedown his acts for money and rob them. Some of this shrewdness and ruthlessness Sharon learned from her father.

Ozzy was notoriously bad with numbers, reading, and somewhat sensitive. He didn't like just fucking over people for money and would never agree to it if he knew it was happening. So Sharon just didn't tell him. Of the many acts of ruthless business she did one of them was doing whatever was posted above. The second a record was cut hire session musicians to redo the track so the originators couldn't claim any credit for it. Also kicking people out of Ozzy's band the second they got uppity. Shit like that.

I don't know what documentary you watched but there are a million and one news stories about it just in a 5 second google search. Also, I can remember when it happened and it was all over the classic rock stations news segments here in town.

I watched the documentary like 30 years ago so I dug a little deeper. Apparently the dove thing was how it started. After that stunt was when people started throwing stuff up on stage for him to bite.

Loved Hulk, hated Terry...but the impact he had on pop culture and the wrestling industry is undeniable.

I grew up a part of Hulkamania, I was running wild, sayin' my prayers and taking my vitamins just like he said to. He was a hero to an entire generation growing up, and without him, pro wrestling would exist ...but undoubtedly not anywhere near the level it does today.

RIP Hulk, thank you for the memories.
