Low-background steel is so-called because it does not suffer from such nuclear contamination.
We could use a "Great Tales of Engineering" thread. It kinda gets covered in the astronomy thread for space stuff. But the transcontinental railroad. The panama canal. Hell, the opening of the Great Lakes due to the Erie canal. The Hoover Damn. How many bombers per hour we rolled off our fully revved up assembly plants at the peak of WW2. The TVA.

I find, like death, it gives me perspective to keep in the back of my mind the sheer tonnage of quality work humans have done. And, the history of it all.

Great feats of engineering also are about science and how astounding the world is. pre-Hiroshima steel: we actually can tell.

That is out there.

Charley Pride died of complications from covid, age 86. He was still touring until the lockdowns started.
