Bikes are amazing with the caveat that you dont ride them around people. Out in the boonies or other places nowhere near an urban area its great. I sold my bike a month after moving to NY because... fuck that place and the people there. I always wanted to ride through Yellowstone though.

Bikes aren’t only dangerous just because it’s a bike, bikes are dangerous because cars and trucks frequently don’t see them due to their smaller profile

It’s both - people in cars/trucks not paying attention/not seeing the guy on the bike and people on bikes speeding/passing improperly/not accounting for adverse road conditions/intoxication/etc
Basically most of the same reasons car accidents in general happen, although bike accidents can typically be more damaging or fatal even at lower speeds since your ass is 100% getting ejected in the best case collision scenario

I’ve known a lot of people who have been severely injured on a motorcycle, and a couple who died. None of them were being careless, drunk, or racing. Several were people pulling out in front of them and laying the bike down. One was just sitting at a light and hit from behind and injured. Two died while sitting at a light and ran over. You’re 27 more times likely to die in a motorcycle accident than a car accident. You’re getting hit by shit with no protection around you. They’re dangerous due to the environment they’re being ridden in.

I took biking lesson when I was in my early 20s, the first few lessons were in a parking lot, and I enjoyed it. Then we went on the road, and nothing bad happened but I felt so vulnerable, and thought to myself "I'm going to die on this" and never finished the lessons.
I lost 2 friends since then to biking accident, and I feel pretty confident that I made the right choice back then.
